I wish we could have stayed a few more nights and days. It was really a sweet bright place and it's a pleasure just to write this review to remember it. I loved the view of the hills from the porch most of all. We were there with knee deep snow all over but we went down to the river anyway and dawdled and that was great. I liked the wood stove; we cooked on it and slept comfortably by it. And there were nice things to play around with--the record player with funny records, the drawing materials, the range of books, VHS movies. The water and bathroom arrangement is primitive but it was fine for us and exactly what we expected. Ruby was genuinely enthusiastic about the cottage and the local area, and was really responsive and helpful. The main house is up the hill but it feels really private down at the cottage--maybe especially in winter. If anyone's looking for an enjoyable getaway with a view and nothing sophisticated, happily, to do, this is a perfect fit.
Exactly as described, a great little cabin just outside of town. We were in town to see friends in Madison, and it served as a great escape when we were done in the city. Things around the cabin were a little hard to find at first, but Ruby was extraordinarily responsive and helped ensure we were settled in in no time. Thanks!
We had an amazing time at the Cozy Cottage, it was a perfect place to escape the city for a weekend. We enjoyed listening to records while roasting marshmallows by the fire. Ruby left everything ready and prepared for our stay and it was very comfortable. The area around the pond is beautiful and tranquil - we even saw a bald eagle while we were enjoying our morning coffee! We've already recommended this place to our friends. It's a great base to explore Devil's Lake, Madison, and everything else Southern Wisconsin has to offer!
Ruby's cottage is very cute, cozy and private. The wood stove and porch swing are great. This place is perfect for a romantic getaway, as long as you are ok with the lack of plumbing and a walk to the bathroom. Water is supplied in 2 large coolers. Washing dishes is stepping back in time a bit. I suggest bringing provisions and ice in your own cooler. Heating things up is easy. Bring a book and enjoy the peace and quiet!
Great place! Great views! There is no running water, so be prepared, but the rustic quality of the place and the serenity are terrific. We had a wonderful stay.
The Cozy Cottage was perfect. A little rustic, but all you need near by. Riley Tavern was great for a burger & beers. New Glarus Brewery & Mt. Horeb a skip away. Bring your bike! And some good rain boots to stomp around in just in case you get a little rain. We will return for sure! Bring some drinking water for coffee, and pick up some fire wood for the fire pit & wood stove (which cranks for it's wee size).
We really enjoyed our 2-nite stay at the cottage. It was fun to be somewhat secluded but not far from bathrooms or the pool. We rode our bikes on the bike trail to a neighboring town where we enjoyed some shopping and dining. The countryside and the sunsets are beautiful. It is a great place if you want a unique country experience without being far from towns.
Truly magical place. Perfect for our needs.
Couldn't be happier about our experience. We will be back!
This is a lovely and unique cottage in a beautiful setting. Pictures of the grounds don't do the view, the porch, or the pool justice. The water in the pool was amazing!! We really enjoyed ourselves.
There were a few details that could have made our stay more enjoyable - knowing that there would not be a fridge, and one of the burners on the stove was broken.
My husband and I are backpackers so no toilet and lots of bugs was no problem for us. I would not recommend this place to anyone who is allergic to dust or scared of insects like bees and spiders. I thought the pricing was very appropriate.
Thanks again for a wonderful weekend!!!
This place is amazing!
