Quiet, spacious bedroom available in a pre-war 2 bedroom apartment. It's located in a very friendly and convenient Astoria neighborhood in Queens. The apartment is 2 blocks from the subway. (It's a 15 minute train ride to Times Square/10 minute ride to Central Park. LaGuardia Airport is a 15 minute cab ride away.) A wide variety of shops and fun new restaurants are located nearby.

The space

*I will be out of the country from January 1st-14th, so the entire apartment is available for those two weeks. Please contact me first if you'd like to book any dates during that time, as I will have to plan logistics. Thank you!*

This apartment is amazingly quiet and makes for very restorative sleep! It's an old building with those extra thick walls. The down side of a pre-war building is the lack of an elevator, and it always looks a little dirty. (I clean every few days.) It's on a friendly, safe street in Astoria with lots of different restaurant and shops within a few blocks. The subway is very close and it's just a short ride into Manhattan.
The room has a comfortable queen sized bed and a brand new air conditioner. I provide clean sheets and towels for your stay. There is a big dresser for your clothes and a mirror. The room also has a small loveseat and a table with two chairs. The TV has local channels and a roku box with subscriptions to Hulu, Netflix and HBOGo. There is a closet with hangers right outside the bedroom door. (An extra airbed is also located in the closet.)

Guest access

Kitchen with coffee maker, microwave, vitamix, toaster, oven. I also regularly stock bagels, cream cheese, butter, jam, oatmeal, coffee, tea, ...and guests are welcome to help themselves. I don't keep a lot of food around typically, but whatever is there I'm happy to share.

Living room with flat screen TV and subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, and HBOgo

Clean bathroom and towels.

There is laundry in the building available for use.

Interaction with guests

I'm at work a lot, but I'm always available by cell phone. I tend to keep to myself at home, but I'm happy to give recommendations on what to visit in the city, good restaurants, and help navigating the subway!

Other things to note

This apartment is a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment that I live in with my small, friendly dog (Emmett.) It's a pre-war building, but has that "old New York" charm. There is no elevator and I live on the fourth floor. These are things to consider if you are allergic to dogs or have any trouble climbing stairs. Otherwise, it's a very nice place to stay. :)

Lauren's place is central and in a good area. The flat is on the fourth floor so do make sure you can climb all the stairs with no lift and a heavy bag. Otherwise the place was decent. Some of the things offered in the ad were not provided. Nevertheless a very basic room. Nothing major to complain about.

Lauren's place was perfect! Astoria is a cute quiet area in Queens, but a close train ride into Manhattan. Lauren's home is only a few minute walk to the train, then about 15-20 minutes into the city. The room was great! Very large and spacious. A very comfortable queen size bed, a small couch, a night stand, a dresser, plus a small table. Lauren was very accommodating with our check in time since we flew in very early in the morning. Full access to the kitchen and living room. Lauren also has a dog, Emmett, who is a big ball of energy in a tiny body. If you're looking for a nice quiet place close to the city for a great price and a fabulous host, book this place!

The room was spacious and comfy as shown in the picture. And the apartment was very quiet during the night, so we slept well every night after long hours of sightseeing. Emmet the dog was just too cute!

Laurens place is very nice and practical. The room has a nice size, aircondition, deacent wifi and comfortable bed. The subway is a aw 2min walk from the apartment and takes you into manhattan in 15min. The neighboorhood is cute with lots of little resturants and shops to get what you need. :) The profile doesnt promise for there to be any parking, so its no fault of the host, but I would say I dont reccoment staying in this area with a car - it was incredibly challenging to find a parking spot and due to the street sweeps the car has to be moved every few days, at one point I was parked 8 blocks away because it was the closest free spot I could find. Again, there was no promise of easy parking, but it might be useful for others to know if your driving :)

Lauren is a great host. She is very accommodating. Emmett is such a cute dog. I was able to walk him around the neighbourhood making feel like I actually lived there. The area has a good vibe with a lot of nice shops and restaurants. I felt safe walking around. The train stop is just a short walk away. It can take you anywhere in Manhattan in good time. I would definitely recommend staying here. I would definitely stay here again next time I visit New York. Thanks Lauren!

Lauren was very prompt with her responses to our questions. The apartment was exactly as shown in the photos. Great location to the train and only (4) stops away from Manhattan. The apt was clean and great for our short stay. Her dog, Emmett is very cute and friendly.

We enjoyed our stay at Laurens place very much. The photos give a really accurate depiction of the room and the apartment. The apartment is located in an older building that has a nice charm. Everything worked really well - shower, wlan, coffee maker etc. Enough place for clothes. We did not see much of Lauren but she was available the whole time via text or phone. The neighborhood / Astoria has a somewhat laid back feeling compared to Manhattan. We discovered some nice, inexpensive places to dine and drink and for breakfast as well in walking distance. The next metro stop is a short walk (5 min.) from Lauren's place, you need approximately 20-30 minutes for any places in Manhattan (door-to-door). Only if you want to visit places in Brooklyn it will take some time longer. We highly recommend Lauren's place.

I'm originally from Kansas and have lived in New York for the past ten years. Even though I tend to be an introvert, I'm still an open and friendly Midwesterner. I keep to myself at home and like to give people their privacy. I've delighted in exploring this city for the past decade and love sharing my favorite adventures with newcomers.
