If you are a creative-tourist, entrepreneur, international teacher or student, visiting NGOer in peace making or security, a travelling intellectual - look no further.
We offer an urban paradise with space, light and creativity in the city center.
A mix of design vs. art, history vs. now - the apartment displays our appreciation for both. We hope you do too.
We offer space, light, serene privacy, in a creative environment with history. Once upon a time, our home was an urban dairy with a barn for the horse and cart and a few cows located in the rear of the house, where you don't hear the city bustle. After an extensive renovation, the barn's hayloft is now a living room, and an elevated loft is the bedroom with a Dutch "trijfelaar" sized bed (that it is a huge single or an intimate double-140cm wide). The slanted roof gives you an outdoor feeling of sleeping under a tent. The extra single bed is in the living room area - perfect for a child or extra adult. There is separate kitchen/dining area, with everything you need to cook at home. The bathroom is small and simple - shower stall, sink & toliet.
The windows open up to our courtyard garden. It is a quiet oasis next to the towering skyrises of Ministeries around us. In good weather we dine outside, enjoy a bottle of wine, you are welcome to join us.
We know that travelling is more than a destination and a bed. It's the smells, tastes, sounds, people you encounter abroad. So we provide our guests with recommendations of our local favorites. We also tease your tastebuds with some of our Dutch breakfast specialities. You might like them so much that you'll want to buy to bring home.
HOW CAN WE SATISFY YOUR DESIRES?
Jazz lover? Foodie? Fashionista? Design afficiendo? Artist? Dancer? Writer? Musician? If we don't have the answers to satisfy your cravings, we have a fantastic circle of creative friends who most certainly will.

Sonia is an excellent host. She was engaging, helpful, and her place was exactly as pictured. So convenient to the train station and the shopping district. Just a great experience!
Mike so glad that you and your dad had a great time here. Both of you seemed to enjoy everything Dutch from the kroket & frites to the antique car collections at the Louwman museum. Your family has super strong bonds here, so hopefully we will see you come back! Tot volgende keer! en tot ziens!!!
We enjoyed a quite simply, perfect stay at Den Haag, much of this was due to Sonia and her wonderful house. She provided us with all the information we needed including the best restaurants nearby. This accommodation really is just about 8 minutes away from everything you need. Most importantly it is around 5 minutes walk from the central station. We will stay there again!
What a wonderful apartment and so well located and a few minutes walk from Den Haag CS.
Sonia is a fabulous host - the homemade jams and granola, a gourmet cooked meal on a cold night were all delicious extras that made the stay even better!
Would stay again!
Loved hosting you Lindsey! Glad you like the home-mades. Thank you for your great South African treats and teaching me a S.African cuss-word! Sure gunna incorporate that into my vocubulary. :-)
Hope to see you again and have more time to chat (and learn more words in S.African!!!)
The Canal House was such a wonderful place to stay; The apartment is beautiful and just as described. Sonia is a fabulous host; doing everything she can to make sure you feel at home. She made lots of recommendations of places we could visit and things we could do and provided a lovely breakfast hamper (and even a delicious vegan soup one evening!)
The location of the apartment was perfect for arriving by train, and exploring the city, by foot or on the trams.
We really enjoyed our time in the Canal House and have fallen in love with Den Haag. Thank you Sonia, for being so thoughtful and kind during our stay.
I spent 3 nights at Sonia's canal house, actually, more like 3 1/2 nights because Sonia kindly made the early check-in possible for me who would have been at a loss with very inconvenient flight schedule. (But I should make it clear that I had made inquiry a while ahead and fortunately Sonia didn't have guests the previous night!) Welcoming assortment of breakfast fruits in the kitchen wordlessly warmed me up. Sonia was keen on making sure if I wasn't cold or starving all along but never intrusive. You can always tell the difference, can't you? The house was not only extremely convenient located very close to Den Haag Centraal, art museums and shops but also full of own personality. That's not a combination that you can routinely expect from one specific accommodation. The paintings on the wall, small boxes and ornaments were mostly related to the history of host family. I enjoyed imagining without actually asking the family how they ended up there. You might find the bath room and wash basin is a little bit too small considering the house is quite roomy for 2 or 3 people but you won't be in Den Haag for onsen anyway, will you? In my case, had confusion about hot/cold indication of water tap at first, but got used to it quickly.
I must mention it was literally the warmest stay among my winter trips to western European countries. If you are worried about noises as the house is really close to city centre, I can assure that the neighbourhood is so quiet at night that I felt I should be careful not to make noises.(despite the house is very close to the central area. On top of that, for I'm a dog person, Sonia's family was living with a dog with Christmas in her eyes . She is likewise super friendly and polite.
I used to stay in short-term rental apartments as I tend to be a bit of stationary traveller rather than browsing many cities. All in all, my first experience with airbnb was successful thanks to this exceptionally responsible host family. The best thing to me was their sense of responsibility came from the understanding that travellers are vulnerable dreamers.
Haery, your words are toooooo kind! It was a delight hosting you and hope that you stay with us again. You got the seal of approval from Lady GiGi who adored you. We LOVE DREAMERS, creative people like you, stimulate our sensitivites by informing us of your artistic speciality. Hope the Rotterdam Film Festival matched and exceeded your expectations. Awaiting your recommedations!!! Take care.

My partner and I stayed at the Canal house for a weekend in January 2015. Sonia went out of her way to make us feel welcome. She picked up fresh fruit and groceries for breakfast as soon as we arrived; gave us good tips on local attractions and recommendations on where to eat; and fed us not one, but *two* homemade dishes (a beet tarte tatin and a pineapple tuile). She was also quite accommodating with our departure time and allowed us to keep our luggage in the flat all day, as we had an evening return flight.
Canal House is just as pictured, and is in a great location, just 5 minutes walk from Central Station. I'd recommend Sonia's place to anyone looking for a home away from home in the Hague.
WHO ARE WE?
Our family also uses of airbnb almost everywhere we travel. We enjoy meeting locals on their own turf and understanding the cultures from the inside out. I'm an American Born Chinese (ABC) who fell in love with Holland over 27 years ago. And so much so that I married a Dutchman and have 2 daughters (22 & 15) that embrace all 3 cultures. The Hague, a gem city known for it's beauty, surroundings and importance on the world stage for its peace. We love this city so much so, that city honored us with the title "Creative Ambassador" in 2010. We'd be honored to host you, show you our city's lively creative side and make your stay as memorable as possible.
We enjoy meeting people from all over the world, enjoy learning languages, understanding different cultures and lifestyles. Looking forward to being inspired by you and we hope to do the same during your stay with us.
