Paraiso del Mar is truly a remarking resort!
We will not be present during your stay, but we hope that you will treat our home as if it were your own.
We had a wonderful week at the beachfront condo, unit A101.
The unit was luxurious and very big. The hosts were really helpful and nice.
Every morning we could watch the dolphins passing by the beach from our balcony. There were kaiaks available in the complex (ask for pedals from the host) and one afternoon we just sailed with the kaiaks from the beach by the condo to take a closer look at the dolphins, that was an amazing experience.
The complex was extremely quiet and almost empty at the time of our visit. There is a small pool for kids in addition to the big pool and the Jacuzzi. The pool area is highly maintained and clean.
The only thing you need to take into account is that the complex is pretty isolated. Once you get used to that it is great, but in practice, to get there from La Paz, you need to take a boat, which goes every hour from Marina Cortez, the way takes 10 minutes. For our small kids it was a big attraction but might be inconvenient for others. Plan to visit the grocery store before taking the boat.
Communications were excellent. The property managers Penny and John were very helpful and accommodating. The property was described well. It was hard to know what to expect being offshore from La Paz. It was just that, offshore from La Paz which made it very safe, gated and difficult to access unless you catch the well controlled boat shuttle. We were on the first floor and we slept with the screen doors unlocked and felt totally safe. There are about a hundred units that seemed to be a mostly older American group when we were here. Endless beaches around. They have a handful of double kayaks available and a stand up paddleboard but getting paddles was an issue so Penny brought us 2 to use. Whale sharks were just off shore within paddle range and you could see a number of dive boats taking snorkelers out to swim with them. We had 80 degree and sunny weather the whole time. You can make the drive around and bring your car in without much trouble which is what we did. The guard met us at the gate promptly to let us in.
Our group of 7 women loved unit A101! Paraiso del Mar is spectacular and the condo is clean, beautiful and very well outfitted for cooking and enjoying the 180 degree view from sunrise to sunset. The grounds are kept up immaculately by a team of gardeners. Chelle, Ana Laura & Penny were easy to reach by phone, email or text when we had any question before arrival and during our stay. Once we got there, they even gave us a prepaid local phone to use for the week - very handy. The water taxi is extremely punctual and the white van (Nicolas/Jose/Luis) is always there when you need it (or just a few minutes wait if you have to call). The staff is excellent! Here are some general tips for fellow travelers: -The food in the pool-side restaurant was extremely fresh and made to order (open lunch & dinner except Monday). You can also bring your own fish and have them cook it. -Do bring in your own groceries to cook most meals. Only purified water is available onsite in the building B office. There is no longer a corner store. - Bravo Market is best for fish (top of the hill on Bravo), Mega is good for everything else/be sure to hit the Organic Farmer's Market Tues & Sat 8-Noon on Madero between Constitucion and 5 de Mayo. Avoid the other big box stores for groceries. Bring your own cloth shopping bags or a wheeled suitcase for the big Mega shopping trip. -There are kayaks/stand up paddle boards on the beach to use but paddles are hard to come by. Bring your own or ask around for one to borrow. The paddles are kind of a mystery so get this figured out early. -Don't try to drive to PDM unless you have a 4 wheel drive. Just bring things in the water taxi. Leave your rental car parked at Marina Cortez on the street (safe & free). -If you have a car, do go to Balandra Beach (Google it for amazing photos) and La Ventana (to watch the kite surfing and experience the crazy hippy vibe). I recommend printing out a few maps before you go since phone data/google maps can be hard to access/expensive. You can waste a lot of time getting lost and the locals aren't always good at giving directions even if your Spanish is excellent. Road signs are often missing or invisible. -There are plenty of clean beach towels in the unit. These are extremely handy. Boat trips can be chilly if you are coming back in a wet bathing suit. Do take advantage of swimming with the sea lions/whale sharks by private boat tour and take plenty of dry towels. -If you haven't been to La Paz just know that it's a lot less touristy and quieter than Cabo. The Malecon is beautiful and pushy vendors are few :-). -PDM can feel a little isolated but if you are well provisioned, it is so...
Chelle's Condo is highly recommendable. Ana who was our main contact was wonderful. The Condo is 15 min ride to Marina Cortez where you will take an amazing boat to the Condo. Perfect if you are looking for a quiet place. The beach is just steps from the apartment and the beach is beautiful and peaceful. We saw whales standing from the beach!!! The water is transparent. Recommendable!! We had a wonderful time :)
Very nicely furnished condo and seemed to be the best unit in the whole complex, due to ground floor location and sunset views out the front windows. Paraiso is very isolated, and was very quiet while we were there (June), so if you want to escape from people, and want to feel like you have miles of beach all to yourself, this is the place. Be sure to bring supplies (food, etc.) since there is nothing really available there, with the exception of the poolside bar, which does serve great mid-day food, but is closed for breakfast. While we were there, dinner was by reservation only, since they only purchase what they know they will use that day (part of the charm). But making our own meals, or shuttling back to La Paz for plenty of great food was no problem. One disappointment was that there were not any paddles available for the common use kayaks or paddleboards.
Beautiful location, very helpful host, went above and beyond to help and make our stay a good one. Thanks.
