Apt is very quiet, and the bed was suprisingly very comfortable! It was clean, but the carpet was a little grungy, and the threshold into the kitchen was broken. The bathroom was clean, but the ceiling is acoustic tiles, and one of the tiles in the bathroom was warped and and had a moldy spot, and should probably be replaced. kitchen dishes, glassware limited, but served our needs. would have liked some wine glasses. Very close to lincoln park, and they were fine with us bringing our two whippets. We would definitely stay here again.
Although we didn't have the opportunity to meet Steve and JoAnne, they made our first Airbnb experience one we would like to repeat. They were very responsive to questions via email, and the apartment was very much as described. Despite being a studio, it had a nice open feel to it. We were very comfortable, and enjoyed having the kitchen available for making breakfast. The neighborhood is beautiful and despite cold, wet weather, we enjoyed walking the quaint streets of Old Town. The Chicago History Museum is also within walking distance, and we took advantage of that to spend a morning enjoying the exhibits there. Our thanks to Steve and JoAnne for a lovely place to stay while visiting our daughter in nearby Lincoln Park. So much nicer than an expensive hotel.
Everything was smooth, comfy and in a great neighborhood. Felt like I was in a cozy part of town yet close to so many things which was great as was soon cold. Would absolutely stay here again as I love the seamless entry, privacy and location.
Thank you Steve and JoAnne
Wonderful place to stay. Cosy and close to downtown Old Town. JoAnne was very easy to communicate with and made our trip far more enjoyable.
All other issues aside, this apartment is perfectly fine. It is located in a nice area and is spacious enough for 2 people. The internet didn't work when we arrived. Steve gave us instructions to fix it, though we never ended up trying. No complaints on the actual apartment.
Steve and JoAnn rent many properties using Airbnb. They make it easy to coordinate arrival because the give you a code for the front door and the unit is unlocked. While this is very convenient for travelers, their absence at the actual property can cause some issues- as it did for us. Because they have many properties, when you contact them they don't seem to remember the details of your stay. They also don't seem to talk to each other very often because they both gave me different information either on the phone or through Airbnb messages.
Apparently the renter the previous day had forgotten to leave the key inside the apartment we rented so we were instructed to use the spare key that was hidden somewhere outside of the apartment- kind of scary that there is a spare key lying around for anyone to find...
We messaged several hosts before committing to an apartment because we needed a late checkout based on our flight time. JoAnn confirmed that this was not a problem and we booked the apartment. The day that we checked in it was already becoming clear that Steve and JoAnn did not remember agreeing to a late checkout (the Airbnb messages prove that they did, in fact, agree) and had already booked the place for the following day and were asking us to leave by 12pm. Not cool considering we paid more for this apartment than other listings specifically because of the late checkout. They tried to be flexible but wanted us to leave our stuff in the apartment with the door unlocked while the apartment was prepared for the next renter because their cleaning lady doesn't have a key. We opted to bring our stuff with us around Chicago for 6 hours while we toured rather than leaving our valuable unlocked. This was exactly the situation we were trying to avoid when asking different hosts for late checkout. Looking back, it would have been more convenient to book a much cheaper apartment for 2 nights for the same price that this one apartment cost us for less than 24 hours and all of the hassles.
The hosts were gracious and prompt on all contacts. The place is large, light with good bed. Location is fantastic, a beautiful neighborhood; shopping and food within walking distance. Great neighborhood pubs at each end of the block.
Simple and easy. This place is seriously great. Think a hotel room with even more privacy.
Pros: Bed is comfortable. I love the shower, regardless of the moldy tile. There is a lot of room to move around. Amazing host experience. And clean clean clean!
Cons: I almost fell over by the kitchen. The divider is not only raised but broken. Moldy ceiling tile. (Isn't serious.) Very weak wifi signal.
Seriously, great visit in a wonderful area.
