Our home is a restored 1830's log house, located on the historic Clear Springs Mill property, a National Historic Register site. Not to worry... you'll enjoy all modern amenities, including A/C and Wifi. The guest suite has a semi-private entrance and includes a large sitting area, small kitchenette space (coffee brewer, toaster, mic, fridge etc) and private bath. Fridge is stocked with juices, milk, etc. A second floor loft, accessed from the sitting room, provides sleeping space if you have an additional family member traveling with you.
The 6 acre property includes a restored 1880's grist mill, and 1809 sawmill - used for workshop and studio space. And a couple sheep that let us all know when they're hungry. We are definitely in the country. The small town of Dillsburg (grocery stores and restaurants) is about 5 miles up th road. We're a 20 minute drive to Gettysburg or Carlisle; about 30 minutes to Harrisburg.
We accept bookings of 2 nights or more. If there is a third family member traveling with you and you wish to use the single bed in the loft, there is a $7 added charge per night.
IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN TIME TO COMPLETE YOUR AIRBnB PROFILE PAGE, PLEASE TAKE A FEW MOMENTS TO DO THAT BEFORE REQUESTING A BOOKING. This is particularly important if you do not yet have any reviews from prior hosts. We really DO read those things - it's one of the things we appreciate about the ABnB system.
We do not take reservations more than 6 months in advance of the dates in question. We cannot accomodate pets.

With the crazy winter we've been having here in south central Pennsylvania, we were in touch with Art and Donna to reschedule our weekend to the SPRING! With inches and inches of snow to shovel and drive through, it was best for all to be safe and enjoy the weekend in March :) The phone calls between the two parties were nothing short of delightful and pleasant and we are looking so forward to meeting Art and Donna when the grass is GREENer!!
We stayed with Art and Donna for eleven days the end of January and had such a nice stay! They are very courteous and helpful hosts. The house is lovely, located in the very quiet and beautiful countryside of PA! It had snowed prior to our arrival, and it looked like a winter wonderland! Our accommodations were very clean, organized and comfortable. We slept so soundly in the peace and quiet! We enjoyed everything about our stay with Art and Donna and hope to return before long. We highly recommend a stay here!
WOW! I was looking for a quaint place with a nice country feel for a weekend getaway after proposing to my girlfriend. After reading the reviews, I knew I had found the right place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stayed longer! Art & Donna are hands down the nicest B & B hosts we have ever stayed with. They also went out of their way to assist me in the planning of our special weekend ahead of time so that I could have everything just right after the big question. I have no doubt that we will be back in the future even though we are local to the area. It was great to get away in our own backyard for a few days and discover this local treasure. The homemade pumpkin bread was a phenomenal treat for breakfast Saturday morning as well. I would most definitely recommend Art & Donna to anyone looking for a quaint getaway at a very reasonable price.
Our stay at The Log House at Clear Springs Mill was a wonderful experience! Art & Donna are the perfect hosts making our experience warm and welcoming! The rooms were exactly as shown, impeccable in taste, cleanliness and comfort! And, they had stocked it with all the amenities necessarly to make it an enjoyable visit. The setting was truly bucolic yet close enough to Southern Pennsylvania's scenic and historic communities filled with shops, restaurants and history! Art & Donna made themselves available while remaining in the background so that we felt like we were the only one's living in this beautiful, historic home! Highly recommend it to anyone considering a visit to the area!
We had a lovely stay with the Berts at their beautiful home near Gettysburg. They were most accommodating after some particularly tricky booking mixups, and it was truly delightful to arrive there (at last) and be greeted with such genuine warmth. Their space is tastefully decorated and warm, the refrigerator was sensitively (and deliciously) stocked, and we felt most comfortable there. It is an exceptionally nice place to stay after hours droning on on I-81.
We had a great experience at Art and Donna's charming log cabin. They are excellent hosts and the accommodations were perfect for our visit to Gettysburg. I would highly recommend this location.
Our weekend stay at the The Log House (Clear Springs Mill) with Art and Donna Bert was everything we could have hoped for. The ample guest suite (living, kitchen, and bedroom areas in one room, plus separate loft with twin bed, and an adequate bathroom) formed an addition onto the Bert's home and, with its convenient separate entrance, suited our purposes to a "T." What's more, the suite was furnished and decorated in what appeared to be Civil-War-period style, right down to pegs for coat-hanging, distressed-paint kitchenette cabinetry, pottery dishes, and even beautiful old silverware. The place got a "10" from us for its "cute" factor alone.
We had planned to spend all of our time in Gettysburg, touring the battlefield and museums, but we found ourselves hanging around in the morning a bit later, perusing literature about the era with a cup of tea in hand, and, in the evenings, watching the recent (4-hour) film on Gettysburg curled up on the settee with a bowl of popcorn. Our Log House stay became part of the adventure!
We didn't have much of a chance to chat with the Berts other than when we first arrived, but they were charming and helpful both in person and via their correspondence (recommending restaurants, accommodating our fairly late arrival, etc.). They even left some homemade sweet bread for us in the room. The oatmeal, granola, fruit, juices and other goodies in the fridge and cabinet were also treats!
So, we expected a place to stay while we toured Gettysburg, and what we found was a lovely spot we are looking forward to revisiting for many reasons. (Not the least of which being to get to know the Berts a little better!) In fact, the Log House guest suite would make a great writer's retreat...
I highly recommend Art & Donna's log home. They were very helpful, accommodating, and communication was great. I arrived about midnight & Art waited up to greet me and get me settled into their wonderful retreat between Gettysburg & Harrisburg. The guest area is modern, and decorated with period Americana furniture & fixtures. The bed is very comfortable, and there is plenty of space in the sitting area to relax and unwind. The kitchenette was stocked with breakfast staples, fruit, & cookies. I really enjoyed walking outside around the property every morning in the fall air with my cup of coffee. They're located just outside of Dillsburg, a small town, in a great location for visiting Gettysburg, Harrisburg & Adams County. You will not be disappointed staying at The Log Home. I will stay here again on my next trip to Gettysburg. Thank you Art & Donna. I had a wonderful time!
Our two night stay with Art and Donna was everything we expected and wanted it to be. They were gracious, inviting and delightful to talk with. Our room was charming, spacious, comfortable and very clean. The grounds were also nicely maintained and fun to walk around. We could not have asked for anything more!
We spent most of our time in Gettysburg which was an easy 20 mile drive. After spending all day as tourists it was nice to escape to the peace and quiet that Art and Donna offer.
Art and Donna have the most beautiful private accommodation at the back of their log house. It was just lovely to spend time in this gorgeous early American decor. A real gem. Art and Donna are warm and helpful hosts, especially as they had to wait up for us arriving late on a night of driving rain. Then to find home made banana bread and chocolates waiting for us! We could not fault a thing, everything clean, neat and tasteful. A good location for visiting Gettysburg. We can highly recommend the Log House.
