About this listing
Our home is a restored 1830's log house, located on the historic Clear Springs Mill property, a National Historic Register site. Not to worry... you'll enjoy all modern amenities, including A/C and Wifi. The guest suite has a semi-private entrance and includes a large sitting area, small kitchenette space (coffee brewer, toaster, mic, fridge etc) and private bath. Fridge is stocked with juices, milk, etc. A second floor loft, accessed from the sitting room, provides sleeping space if you have an additional family member traveling with you.
The 6 acre property includes a restored 1880's grist mill, and 1809 sawmill - used for workshop and studio space. And a couple sheep that let us all know when they're hungry. We are definitely in the country. The small town of Dillsburg (grocery stores and restaurants) is about 5 miles up th road. We're a 20 minute drive to Gettysburg or Carlisle; about 30 minutes to Harrisburg.
We accept bookings of 2 nights or more. If there is a third family member traveling with you and you wish to use the single bed in the loft, there is a $7 added charge per night.
IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN TIME TO COMPLETE YOUR AIRBnB PROFILE PAGE, PLEASE TAKE A FEW MOMENTS TO DO THAT BEFORE REQUESTING A BOOKING. This is particularly important if you do not yet have any reviews from prior hosts. We really DO read those things - it's one of the things we appreciate about the ABnB system.
We do not take reservations more than 6 months in advance of the dates in question. We cannot accomodate pets.
Smoking is not permitted. Traveling pets are not permitted. Due to the nature of the space (upstairs loft), any accompanying child should be old enough to understand safety issues... we don't want anyone falling down the ladder in the guest suite in the middle of the night! The upstairs loft is not suitable for the elderly.
This is a quiet country setting. We value that, and assume our guests will value it also.
We absolutely loved our stay with Art and Donna in this historical home. Set in a rural area it has gorgeous old world furnishings and was very comfortable. We appreciated all the creative touches from decor to books to read. It is very well located to explore Gettysburg. We loved the opportunity to talk to our hosts and all communication was easy and prompt. We thoroughly recommend this airbnb to others.
The Log House was a wonderful place to stay - a better adjective would really be "magical."
Art and Donna thought of every big and little thing that their guests could possibly want or need. It was as if they read our minds - we felt special and pampered! The cabin was a beautiful step back in time, in which all the modern comforts were unobtrusively woven. Be sure to ask Art about the amazing history of the Log Cabin, and ask Donna about the beautiful cloths decorating the room that she wove on her loom. We really hope to enjoy their hospitality again!
This is the second time we stayed at the Log House with Art and Donna. They are wonderful hosts and their place is warm, welcoming and immaculate. It is such a pleasure to stay at their place, and they are great! It has become my home away from home when I am visiting family in the area. I'm looking forward to staying with Art and Donna again soon.
We really enjoyed our stay at Art and Donnas Log House. The place is really nice decorated, clean and has much space. We felt home immediately. Art and Donna are great hosts.
Dillsburg is a perfect base camp for Gettysburg and Harrisburg both less than 30 minutes drive. Also the famous Appalachian Trail is within 20 minutes drive if you like to hike.
Art and Donna graciously allowed us to arrive very late. The log house is extremely comfortable, and these people know how to decorate. The neighborhood, located right off Rt. 15 near the Gettysburg battlefield, was filled with rolling hills perfect for a morning jog. Art and Donna left us scones, assorted fruit, orange juice, butter, milk and granola for breakfast.
I stayed in the cute loft with a huge ceiling fan, and my friend stayed downstairs. The house includes a screened porch for enjoying the morning coffee (they provided arabica).
The hosts referred us to Baker's, a local restaurant with a wide assortment of food and cheesecakes for dinner.
After our stay, we hopped on the nearby turnpike and headed home.
We can't say enough nice things about this place. It's perfect.
My boyfriend and I loved our stay here! Art & Donna were so accommodating. If we ever make our way back to Dillsburg there's no point in finding anywhere else to stay.
The room they provided was spacious, clean, and lovely. In fact, those adjectives could easily be applied to their whole property. It was all simply beautiful.
What a lovely place with amazing hosts who have created a modern place to live within historic buildings. Thoughtful touches everywhere from the coffee and breakfast supplies to the extra blankets made our stay extra comfortable. Two bars ATT, three bars Verizon, free wifi. Microwave, toaster, coffee maker plus supplies
