Drees Haus is a charming home on the historic district walking tour of Oldenburg, a German-Catholic village in southeastern Indiana. Located on a quiet street in the historic district, this brick cottage home is an example of the town's late 19th century architectural style. The house reflects the German heritage of the village, with much of the artwork and furniture original to the town and surrounding area. Easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, and the Catholic church.

The space
On the ground floor the living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom have high ceilings, comfortable furniture, and shuttered windows for privacy. The kitchen is well stocked with coffeemaker, coffee, tea, condiments, and staples. Enjoy the view of the garden from the kitchen, or take your coffee out to the covered porch, enhanced by lighting and ceiling fans. A smart TV in the living room, bluetooth, and wifi keep you connected. The queen bed has, we're told, the most comfortable mattress ever. The full bathroom features a walk-in shower.

Climbing the stairs to the second floor will reward you with a cozy sitting room with games and puzzles, and a bedroom with full bed. A freestanding electric fireplace adds to the ambiance in the winter and AC cools the space in the summertime.

Relax outside on the patio, enjoy the garden, or walk one or two blocks to restaurants, pubs, shops, the grocery, historic Sisters of St Francis convent, Holy Family church, and walking trails. Your kids will love the adjacent playground, and you'll love being able to keep an eye on them from the back yard.

Where you’ll be

Oldenburg, Indiana, United States

Known as the “Village of the Spires” for the multiple church steeples that punctuate its skyline, Oldenburg offers a visitor experience quite different from any other place in eastern Indiana. Founded in 1837 by German Catholic settlers, it retains its old-world charm. The Drees Haus, one of over 100 buildings included in the National Register of Historic Places, is located on a quiet street across from the convent of the Sisters of St Francis.
Constructed in the 1870's, it is on the walking tour of Oldenburg, which notes that the house has "retained most of its integrity." The walking tour includes numerous historic homes representing German-influenced mid nineteenth century period architectural style. Many homes, including Drees Haus, are constructed of brick manufactured right here in town.
Oldenburg is a great starting point for exploring Franklin County, touring scenic countryside villages nestled throughout rolling hills and valleys. Travel a route with themes such as the Vatican ride, the Chicken Trail, or the covered bridge tour. Visit Brookville Lake, Metamora, or the Wolf Habitat near Brookville.

David and I are committed to making Drees Haus as unique and charming as Oldenburg itself. We believe that a stay away should feel like home - and that's how we furnished and decorated Drees Haus. We like simple comfort and interesting, eclectic decor. We hope you decide to visit our village and experience it at the Dress Haus!
