Architect-designed, this unique retreat is nestled in an ohia tree and hapu’u fern forest where only the ali’i (royalty) were allowed in ancient times. Refresh your spirit with the sounds of native honeycreepers and the whisper of the high elevation breeze through the trees.
Enjoy natural beauty and incredible privacy. Step out your door and into a quiet time and place. Stroll down the private streets near the golf course, and stay less than a half-mile from the heart of the village or take in some of the many sights of the island easily accessible from here.
We are just five minutes from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park. Hike across the floor of Kilauea-Iki crater or to Halema'u ma'u, or take a night hike in the park to see the active lava flows.
Your Volcano Village location puts you 40 minutes from Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, where you may see turtles nesting and swimming, one and a half hours from from the City of Refuge, and only 40 minutes from historic and beautiful downtown Hilo with restaurants, shops, museums and nearby snorkeling beaches.
Amenities in the village include several diverse restaurants, 2 grocery stores, 2 gas stations, launderette, gift shops, art galleries, post office, a nearby local winery, 18-hole golf course and the best Sunday morning farmer's market.
Come and enjoy Volcano Village... where the mornings are usually bright and sunny, the evenings cool and misty, and the colorful native Hawaiian birds sing all day long.

My parents and I stayed in the house for three nights as we explored Volcano National Park. We couldn't have found a better place to stay: it was very clean, welcoming, and spacious, and we felt right at home. The house is located very close to the park (5 minute drive).
After our long hikes in the park, we really looked forward to relaxing in the house. Highly recommended!
I have spent two days at Hale Palila and this place is amazing.
The location is great, only 3 minutes away from the Volcano National park by car and in a nice jungle-like setting close to the Golf course. This architect designed house was refurbished recently and my girlfriend and I were actually some of the first to book the place. Everything was nice and clean and perfect. The kitchen was convenient. The fireplace was nice but there were only a few wood logs and the weather was rainy so we run out of dry wood quite early.
All in all a very pleasant stay and I totally recommend this place.
We live on the Big Island & spent 2 nights here as a special weekend away. The location is ideal - close to the park and Volcano Village. All linens, shower toiletries and kitchen cooking essentials are provided. The space heater is necessary in this area of the island. The booking process was the smoothest & best part of this listing - Merlenna returned emails and inquiries within hours.
When we arrived, there was a constant beeping that we later found out was the water purifier. The contact number we were provided never answered & we couldnʻt leave a message. Emails were never returned. We finally got in touch with someone, the purifier was only turned off. Therefore, the water was not drinkable and had the distinctive sulfur smell of all catchment water systems. Initially there was no Wifi. We were given a code for a storage area where we found the router still in the box. Thankfully the guests in the adjoining cottage had a computer & between us we were able to set it all up. The water heater is very small & supplies both cottages - impossible to take even a lukewarm shower if there are guests staying in the adjoining cottage. Overall, this was a ok rental, but we wonʻt be staying here again.
We had a great stay at Hale Pikake. It was perfect for myself and two friends, because we each had a separate bedroom. The host left the lights on for us, which was very nice for our late arrival. We were very close to Volcano National Park.

Hostess was super easy to connect with! Although the heat was off when we arrived it didn't take long to warm up. Great value for a family looking to explore volcano national park!
Great little get away in the rain forest. Very close to the National Park which made visiting the park nice as we stretched it out over a couple days. Hot Tubbing in the rain was awesome.
This was our first airbnb experience and we could not be any happier. We chose this house because it was located very close to Hawaii Volcano National Park. The house was perfect for a family of 4 and we had ample room to spread out and make ourselves comfortable. Thomas was very personable and we enjoyed his pristine property. We loved having the kitchen to cook meals and we packed a picnic using one of the coolers. There were lots of magazines in the house to find out activities to check out - but most of all we enjoyed just hanging out after a long day driving around. There is a big sign outside of the house so it is easy to find. The nights are full of the frogs chirping but we enjoyed it. Thank you for having us! We would recommend this house to our friends and family! Aloha, The Goodgame Ohana
Great location to see the volcanoes.... The tropical garden is full of orchids and other exotic flowers, it's a quiet, idyllic location. We loved our stay!
We loved this magical little spot. The kitchen is well set up for cooking your own meals. We loved the CDs, all the music really goes with the ambiance. Bed is super comfortable. We were given yummy papayas with lime for breakfast the next day. The place feels very private even though you are on the same property as the owners.
