If you're looking for an Irish holiday, you may be skeptical about spending it in a renovated farmhouse quiet County Laois. Well, let me eliminate your skepticism right now. First of all, we expected that this renovated farmhouse wouldn't have all the touches we are used to here in North America. Boy were we wrong! First of all, the home has three washrooms, one with a glorious full bath as well as a shower, and two with showers. The water pressure was fantastically strong, and there was TONS of hot water, so don't worry about crummy farmhouse water pressure; it's a non-issue. Second, the kitchen is fantastic. It's a huge, bright, open space with a large communal table, and an island with lots of high seating to get everyone participating in making meals. Amazingly, we didn't eat out a single day we were at the farmhouse because the kitchen was such a pleasure to cook in! The house also features a relaxing family room with a fantastic fireplace that we used every single night. Be aware, the farmhouse is actually on a working farm. You may occasionally hear cows mooing, or chickens clucking, but this only adds to the charm. The nice thing about the location is that it's in a vibrant rural county where dairy farming and cattle raising is still the dominant way of life, and there are few tourists. There is a thatched roof pub less that five minutes away that has been owned by the same family since the 1700's, and serves great homestyle food and quality pints of Guinness. The town centre is less than a 10 minute drive, and there are some surprisingly good eats and fun pubs to hang out in. Make no mistake, this is a very busy town! The final benefit is that the home is located very close to the awesome M7 highway, so you can be virtually anywhere in the country within a couple of hours. Dublin airport is about an hour, Dublin city centre is about 75 minutes, and Limerick and Cork are right off the M7, so very convenient drives. I would highly recommend this place. Justin is very friendly and accommodating- you won't be disappointed!

This house and the location is one of the best you will find in Ireland. The owner is fantastic and the dogs and cows on the farm even makes life better! The home is central to Ireland and makes day trips more easy as well. It's country living at it's finest. The house is large is very family friendly and I would say that it's a family house without question!!!! If you are looking to see and be part of the real Ireland and what real Ireland has to offer you must stay at this house and feel at home in Ireland. My real star rating for this locations is 10 stars. It's exactly what I expect, a place to get away from life and really unplug and become Irish. I can't praise the owner enough as he was flexible and very helpful too. It was an honor to stay at this location!

The farmhouse is amazing! Pictures online really do not do it justice. We really love the Morette House and would stay then again in a second. The home is well situated close to the centre of Portlaoise, but is private and gated so you feel very secure. Having a home base in Portlaoise gives you great access to all of Ireland. We felt like we have loads of space for our family. Everything inside the home is immaculate, but you still feel like you are in a warm, welcome and cozy home. The kitchen is well equipped with all you would need to create any kind of simple to extravagant meal easily. Of course, the home has all of your necessities, but also offers a large garden where you can enjoy meals outside. Prior to our arrival Justin was very quick to respond and thorough with communication. That care continued throughout our stay. We had a moment when the wifi wasn't connecting well, and Justin quickly replied and even brought a replacement wifi out to us. Our check in and checkout was super easy and we would absolutely love to stay at the Morette House in the future! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us!

The farmhouse is easily accessible and very private. Upon arriving at the farmhouse we were pleasantly surprised that it exceeded our expectations. The pictures do not quite show how beautiful this home really is. The interior is set up nicely for a family with children. There is a large play room and a nice fireplace. The home is situated on an active farm which is part of its charm. There is a good sized yard that is safe for kids to stretch the legs and have some outdoor fun. The family was very friendly and accessible. One of our children had an ear infection and needed to go to the doctor and the family helped us tremendously by helping us to set up an appointment with the family practitioner. The farmhouse is also located in a central location that is easy to take a day trip to just about anywhere on the Island. In all we had a wonderful trip to Ireland and the farmhouse was a big part of that.

Our property is my husband's birth home, which was completely rebuilt in 2006, modelled on the original build, using all the existing stone. It's a farmhouse which dates back to the 1820s, and is set on a working farm. This is our first year to rent out the house so we are hoping to get some reviews up after our first guests arrive later this year.
