This place smells like septic. It felt dirty. The location is poor. Not scenic at all. We stayed for about a half hour and got the hell outta there. We moved to the pink village of Ramon's, $130/night with two beds and lounges on the beach to use. Sooooo much nicer. When I tried contacting Carmen for at least a partial refund, no response. One more thing- the wifi and the phone both didn't work.
Generally the apartment is okay. This building has a lot of potential, but is neglected. The apartment was mostly clean, but the floors needed to be mopped or swept. I wish there was a broom there and I would have done it myself. The AC unit in the bedroom did not work. The kitchen was not in a functional state which we sadly discovered Christmas morning when we went to make ourselves breakfast. The pots and pans were unusable. Only one burner on the stove worked.
The sheets on the bed seemed clean, and there was soap and towels to use in the bathroom.
The family across the way was very friendly.
My wife and I stayed here for the first week of Dec 2012. We were instructed to call the caretaker John Harvey when we arrived on the island. I was hoping to use a pay phone but instead we were assisted by a helpful local to make the call. We tried calling for about an hour with no answer. Eventually we gave up and decided to go looking for the place. We walked around for about 40 minutes looking for the place until a very helpful local asked us what we were trying to find. We hopped on his golf cart and He drove us to find the property but of course it was locked. My wife stayed outside at the apartment and he drove me around town looking for John Harvey. Eventually we were able to track down John's wife who got us the key. John came to meet us at the room and this is when we found out we were given an out-dated phone number. If we hadn't bumped into the helpful local we would have been stuck (if you stay here, make sure you have the up to date number for John Harvey - starts with 660- not 600-). We found the apartment to be sufficient. Doug's review of Carmen's other property in the same building is accurate. We didn't have any problems with the shower or lighting, but both my wife and I were also shocked by the stove! If you plan to do any cooking in the suite be sure to confirm that this has been repaired. John Harvey (the caretaker) and his wife are very pleasant and they treated us to a great dinner at their restaurant (Robin's Kitchen - a top Tripadvisor rated Jerk Chicken BBQ place). Airplanes will start taking off at around 6:30 - 7:00 AM so don't expect to sleep in late. Everything is in walking distance for most reasonably active people so don't bother renting a golf cart or taking a taxi anywhere. You will need to plan to buy bottled water - we went through about a gallon a day ($3 BZD). We found the property to be not quite as nice as appears in the pictures here, but the interior shots are accurate. You will do a lot of walking since the beach is about 10 minutes away. The streets can be very muddy and difficult to navigate after any significant rainfall. Puddles stretch the whole way across and it can be tricky to get around them. Overall we found the apartment to be sufficient for our needs and it was nice to have a fridge and stove and cable TV. There is no wireless networks anywhere in range of the unit so we just did without. We went on four snorkel trips with Ambergris Divers (located at the water taxi dock) and they did a great job. I would stay here again if I were trying to keep trip costs down.
I didn't spend much time in the house, but it was fine for what I needed. The location isn't as is pictured on the map, but the walk is still less than 10 minutes.
we booked both floors and chilled for the weekend, quiet place walking distance from everything
We had a really great time here. It's a bit outside the main part of town, but we really like that about it. We stayed 4 nights and walked everywhere without a problem. John Harvey (the caretaker) was extremely nice. He picked us up in a taxi at the airport (which is less than 5 minutes from the house) and cooked us an amazing meal at his restaurant down the street.
I absolutely love San Pedro and recommend you eat as much lobster as you can :)
I would definitely book with Carmen again.

I love people and nature! I have this really great property in one of the world's most unique places and I want to share it with you all! Ambergris Caye, Belize...the Jewel of the Caribbean, voted the #1 Island by Trip Advisor 2014! The apartments are located on Princess Drive, just south of the San Pedro Airstrip.
