Guest access
You’ll have access to our private canyon (please note that access may be limited at times when cows are grazing), as well as our garden during the growing season.
You’ll also have your own private parking area and deck, along with access to a shared exterior laundry room. The laundry room is shared with our family and another cabin, but it is located outside—there are no shared indoor spaces.
You’re welcome to explore the property, take walks, and spend time with the animals. We have friendly goats, chickens, horses, and even bunnies. If you’re bringing kids, they’re welcome to enjoy our outdoor play areas, including the treehouses in the yard.
Feel free to relax in the gardens and see what produce is available during your stay, depending on the season.
If you’d like a closer look at the farm, just let us know—we’re happy to offer complimentary farm tours, included with your stay.
Other things to note
Location:
The Shack is located in Cane Beds, Arizona, a small rural community with beautiful desert views. Airbnb may show our location as Fredonia since we share the same zip code.
While this places you slightly farther from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, you’ll be about 30 minutes closer to Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Coral Pink Sand Dunes, making it a great central base for exploring Southern Utah.
⸻
Hot Tub Maintenance
Hot tub maintenance is occasionally required and is typically done on the morning of check-out. Our maintenance team may access the tub during this time.
If evening maintenance is ever needed, we will always message you in advance and ask permission before entering the area.
⸻
Connectivity
There is no cell service at the property. However, we do provide reliable internet, and Wi-Fi calling works well if enabled on your phone.
⸻
Grand Canyon Access (Seasonal Note)
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is closed from December 1 to June 1. During this time, the only access is via the South Rim or Desert View, both approximately 4 hours away.
When the North Rim is open (typically May 1 to December 1), it is about 90 minutes from the cabin.
⸻
Kayaks & Nearby Water
We provide two kayaks with life jackets for guest use at nearby reservoirs (about 10 minutes away).
* You’ll need a vehicle suitable for transporting them (pickup truck or large SUV recommended), or
* We can deliver and pick them up for you for a $50 fee
You’re also welcome to take them to Sand Hollow Reservoir, though this requires appropriate transportation.
⸻
Farm & Ranch Environment
We live on a working ranch and farm with a variety of animals. Some are enclosed, while others—like chickens and dogs—may roam freely.
You may hear:
* Dogs barking at night
* Roosters crowing in the morning
* Coyotes in the distance
We do our best to create a peaceful experience, but this is authentic farm life—and part of the charm 😊
⸻
Wildlife & Nature Notes
Living in a rural area means sharing space with nature:
* Bugs: Flies (especially in summer), moths, occasional bees/wasps, and daddy long legs
* Mice: Rare, but possible in winter months—please notify us immediately if you see one
* Rattlesnakes: Present in the area, though sightings are uncommon (typically 1–2 per year). Please stay aware when walking outdoors
