In the Heart of Downtown Frederick-Pet Friendly!
From 1927, the house was the Barbara Fritchie Museum until we purchased the house in 2018 and fully renovated it to be a cozy Airbnb. It has all the amenities you'd expect in a high-quality hotel. Relax with a wood burning fireplace, full kitchen, dining room, living room and two beautiful bedrooms, renovated bathroom, new HVAC, you'll look out the window and expect Stonewall Jackson to be marching down the street any minute!

The space
COVID Statement: We are well aware of the concerns about the COVID virus and are taking mitigation measures very seriously. Our housekeeper is following all of Airbnb's published guidelines for disinfection at all of our properties as your safety comes first. If you have any concerns about the COVID measures we have put in place, feel free to contact us.

"Shoot if you must, this old grey head, but spare your Country's flag"...these famous words are believed to have been said by patriot Barbara Fritchie, waving our flag out of the dormer of this house in 1863! Barbara lived in this house while her sister lived in the house next door in the Hauer House, which we also offer on Airbnb which sleeps 13. We frequently have large groups who book both properties at the same time, and of course we can provide a discount for both.

The house is quite spacious with its large living room (with working wood fireplace), ample dining room and surprisingly large bathroom, yet keeps the cozy feel from the 1800's. Most of the charm and patina of the 1800's still exists with the creaky original wood floors, funky doors and original woodwork. Many guests enjoy coffee in the morning or wine in the evening on the private porch in the rear overlooking Carrol Creek Park. You'll find a little nook off the living room with a small desk for doing some work, and behind you is a china closet with real Barbara Fritchie memorabilia. You'll find antiques and heirlooms throughout the house making it perfect for anyone who appreciates our efforts to make it special, but may not be the best choice if you have rambunctious children. You might want to consider one of our other properties- The Historic Hauer House or Downtown 1850 Retreat.

"Barbara's room" has a comfy queen sized bed, the blue room has a full size bed and the living room has a remarkably comfortable queen-size sofa bed. The backyard and gardens are available for your use as well as a gas grill and is shared with the Hauer House next door. We have installed all new mini-split system HVAC units (4) and each major room can be individually controlled.

The house is dog-friendly for an extra $100 charge per pet, per stay charged with a money request through Airbnb.

Guests can use the awesome fitness center 2 blocks away at the Talley Rec Center for $4. See house manual for details.

2-night minimum stay on weekends.

Early check-in: $25 if available and will be charged with a money request through Airbnb.

Guest access
Guests can access all areas of the house, including the back yard. We share the backyard with the guests next door at the Hauer House which we also own. Please be respectful of their space as we hope they will yours.

Other things to note
Well behaved dogs are welcome for an extra $150 pet fee per dog per stay. We will send you a money request through Airbnb for the fee.

There are great restaurants within a block or two and plenty of great walking right along Carroll Creek, right next to the house. There are a few restaurant coupons good for a free appetizer on the game table. On a nice day, many people will stop to read the history plaque along Carroll Creek right outside the house.

Also, there must be a Pokemon Go stop right by the stone wall in the back yard. You may see a bunch of geeky people out there quietly staring at their phones once in a while for about 30 minutes. You are a short walk to great restaurants and night life as well as to Baker Park where you can catch a summer concert on Sunday nights. Or walk along the creek from Baker Park to the east side of Frederick.

Please be mindful of our neighbors during your stay. Our property's quiet hours are in place to ensure that everyone can enjoy a peaceful night's sleep. We care a lot about maintaining good relationships with our community, so we appreciate you following our "house rules" during your stay.

We are committed to Rent Responsibly standards. This means we follow best-in-class guidelines to ensure you have a peaceful, safe and memorable stay with us. We use smart home technology to improve your experience including video monitoring (externally only), remotely operable thermostats, temperature and leak monitoring and Noiseaware devices. NoiseAware is a smart home device that measures volume levels throughout the property and allows us to respond to noise nuisances without disrupting your stay. NoiseAware is 100% privacy compliant, does not record audio and is required on this property. If you have any questions, please ask. We are committed to your comfort so please let us know if we can do anything during your stay to make it more enjoyable.

Location

Frederick, Maryland, United States

The house is located right on West Patrick Street, so you may hear traffic and an occasional fire truck. Lots of pedestrian traffic too as the house is located right next to Carroll Creek. Guests have commented how quiet the house is however. Since the house was formerly a museum, people stop and read the placards on and outside the house. We have installed full-size plantation shutters downstairs and half-size shutters upstairs for full privacy.
