The Space

Yes, Maison de Horie is a very groovy designer apartment in the midst of Osaka's leading cafe/fashion culture. And, yes! It is very family friendly!

I know those two words "groovy" and "kid friendly" don't normally go well together, but they do at Maison de Horie. As a mother of 3, I know so well how our priorities change in selecting restaurants, movies, holiday destinations and activities before/after the first child. But, we can still go to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner and a nice urban cafe for a real cup of Cafe Latte, and even stay in a groovy designer apartment for the night.

About the Location:

Osaka, the second largest city in Japan, is actually a lot more fun and family/children friendly than one may expect from reading guide books about Japan. Universal Studio Japan, Kaiyukan (a world famous aquarium), zoos, parks, museums, and Osaka castle are all here for families to enjoy. Especially in Horie area, where the apartment is located, there are a number of parks and family friendly cafes and restaurants. Shinsaibashi(10 mins walk from the apartment) is also full of department stores(Daimaru & SOGO), Tokyu Hands, Loft, Opa, VIVRE, and tons of restaurants and cafes. Despite its very central location, Maison de Horie is tucked away on a little street where everything becomes quiet after 5:00pm.

Inside the Apartment:

It's a strategically planned out one bedroom apartment designed/furnished/managed by a leading residence/office designing studio in Osaka. All appliances are top of the range products imported mainly from Europe. There are a double bed in the main bedroom and two full size convertible beds, which can be set up in the living room. A baby crib is also available. High speed broadband is also available and included in the nightly rate. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, a gas stove, a full size fridge, a microwave, a toaster, etc etc, so you could have fun preparing meals with some local produces whenever you would like in your home away from home.

So, come to Osaka and stay with us at Maison de Horie! It will be a very urban, sophisticated, groovy yet kids friendly stay for you, for sure!

  • This place was so nice, and accommodating to stay in. All the info, and instructions given to us by the owner, not only made it very easy to get to, and find, but were helpful when using appliances within the house. Seeing how I don't read or speak Japanese having manuals that had everything labeled in English was incredibly helpful. I could definitely tell that they took the time to make everything for their guests as easy, and simple as possible.

The locations was awesome, and seemed to be pretty centralized to most everything I wanted to do, and see while in Osaka. If something wasn't in walking distance there was a subway stop right around the corner.

I would 100% stay in place hosted by this owner.

  • We (A family of 3 including an adult son) enjoyed a very comfortable stay. We had plenty of space, the apartment was very well equipped and it was quiet as it was on the 10th floor.

The instructions sent in advance were very detailed and clear with helpful photographs. It was a 3 minute walk from the nearest subway station .

In summary an excellent experience . thank you

  • This was our second booking through Yukiko and as before she is very professional and easy to deal with.
This apartment is extremely roomy and was fantastic for our family of 5. We loved the open kitchen and the bath is just bliss after a full day of sightseeing.
Location is wonderful, a quick walk to Shinsaibashi or 2 minutes to the subway. There are so many fantastic restaurants within walking distance of the apartment. Some nights we got take away from the cafe on the ground floor of the building. It was delicious and the cafe owner was extremely accommodating. Make sure you try his amazing chocolate cake.
This is one of the most spacious places I have stayed at in Japan. It is actually bigger than it looks in the pictures. It has a huge storage room (which is like a second bedroom if you need it).
Overall a spacious apartment in a fantastic location.

  • This is a fantastic apartment in a great location. I stayed here with my husband and mother-in-law for a long weekend, and it was perfect for our needs. Within walking distance to major attractions and the subway. Yukiko has furnished the apartment well and even thought of extra details (such as toiletries and a well stocked kitchen) that will make your stay very comfortable. I would highly recommend for families.

  • Yukiko's apartment in Osaka is wonderful! Great location, near the subway, many dining options, upscale shopping and grocery store. Yukiko was most pleasant to deal with and very responsive. The apartment is well furnished and equipped. Our party of three adults was very comfortable there for 5 nights. I agree with another guest that the light does come in brightly, especially in Japan's summer when the sun rises at 4:30 a.m.! I wore a sleep mask and slept soundly. Others in my party were not bothered. I highly recommend this apartment for a stay in Osaka.

  • This is a beautiful apartment that slept 3 of us very comfortably.

Not only was the apartment perfect, but the neighbourhood is really cool, with great coffee shops and restaurants, and very close to tons of cool stores.

The best part was how easy Yukiko made it. Prior to going, we were sent a package that had every detail we needed for a seamless experience. It was perfect!

I cannot recommend this enough. It totally exceeded expectations.

  • We stayed here with a 2 year old and 7 month old. It was very handy having a decent sized kitchen, separate bedrooms and good sized lounge/dining. We were using a pram and found it easy enough to navigate up/down lift etc.
It was warm when we went and the apartment was air conditioned (but needed to be kept on most of the time to keep us cool).
The location was good, close to subways, walking distance to convenience stores and restaurants and felt very safe.
It wasn't the quietest of locations, but we got used to the noise. Or take some ear plugs!
The curtains in the bedrooms are very thin and don't keep the light out, we added a few blankets on top to keep the room dark at night.
The appliances/technology were all very modern and in good working order - it was handy having a dishwasher and washing machine.
The only thing missing was an iron! There was an ironing board but no iron!
Also make sure you take your own soap/shampoo/conditioner as there was none left in the containers provided.
Yukiko was very easy to communicate with and helpful and got back to us very quickly when we were booking this apartment.
Overall a pleasant stay at an affordable price.

  • Great location! This was our first accommodation in Japan for 3 nights and didn't want to leave. Good value for family of 4, where it is difficult to find accommodation together.
There are a choice of restaurants on the nearby main street.
A minimart just across the street, for neccesities.
Subway station 2 mins walk away, which is easy to use and connects you to the whole city (of course).
Taxi on arrival and departure is recommended as stairs in subway, get used to it.
The place is a great little apartment on 10th floor.
We have two kids 8 and 10, they had a room to share. Nice surprise as I wasn't aware of this from the website.
The two aircon units were our saviour in 35degrees celcius heat.
Having a washing machine was fabulous while travelling.
There was washing powder and bits and pieces, so no need to bring.
Bathroom is clean fresh and new.
I thought from the photos that it had glass walls into the bathroom but this is just a mirror in the kitchen. Bathroom is private.
We had a great time and almost didn't want to leave as it felt like home in the three days we stayed.
