Enjoy an Adventure in "Glamping" at Highland House on Pittsburgher Highland Farm. This custom built Tiny House is situated on over 100 acres of rolling farmland, hills and forests, with Scottish Highland cattle, chickens, sheep & lambs, pigs, fish in the pond, and 2 beehives.
You have use of the entire farm during your stay.
Located about 45 minutes south-east of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania's beautiful Laurel Highlands, there is lots to see and do both on site and nearby.

The space
"Glamping" with all the amenities of home!

Complete kitchen with stove, oven, sink and fridge. Included are copper pots, pans, dishes, flatware, a teakettle, and two French coffee presses. There are even 4 wine glasses - hey we aren't animals.

The Picnic Pavilion with a gas grill, charcoal grill and picnic table, is the perfect spot for bar-b-q's in most any type of weather.

Living room sofa folds open to a very comfy double bed. Linens & pillows are stored underneath.

A gel mattress Queen bed is just up the telescoping ladder in the sleeping loft along with extra linens.

Full bathroom with farm bucket sink, shower, medicine chest, mirror, lights and composting toilet. Towels and bed linens are included.

BnB: "Breakfast". We will not be there to cook you breakfast, (as we live 45 minutes away in Pittsburgh), however we do provide a nice way to start your day. There is always coffee (regular & decaf) and tea to brew, some juice, usually fresh fruit, a couple of fresh tasty, muffins from a local bakery, and some brown eggs from our hens. The kitchen is stocked with all the basics and more, so help yourself to what is there.

A CD-Tape-Radio combo is there for some music enjoyment along with a few books and games, a DVD player and an assortment of movies (G-PG-R).

Outdoors you can relax on the deck facing rolling hills, sit by a campfire and roast some marshmallows to make S'mores (split logs, kindling and an axe are included), gaze up at the stars at night, bar-b-q on the grill and eat dinner outside at the table in the Picnic Pavilion, enjoy the Scottish Highland cattle or take the binoculars and go bird-watching.

In the big brown Toy Box in the Picnic Pavillion, you will find some games and toys for outdoor fun. Two bikes are in the gray shed if you'd like to ride the nearby trails and 2 vinyl sleds are also in the shed for winter snow fun !!
We added a regulation Horseshoe pit last year and you are welcome to test your skills (horseshoes hang in the Picnic Pavillion)

Farmer Mark has added a new "Hiking Trail" that begins next to "Highland House" with point #1 at the top of the pine log stairs. There are 17 points of interest along the way and Maps are in the house. The whole hike is 1.25 miles long and you can walk as much or as little as you like.

Points of interest along the Hiking Trail include:
Bee hives, our Composting & Bio Char operation, Historic General Braddock's Road, Native Trees forest and our Rotational grazing.

Mark is always happy to take you on a little tour of "Pittsburgher Highland Farm" and introduce you to the livestock and maybe, even feed a few apples to cows - they love it !

This is a Unique Property and may not be suitable for everyone, so please read below:

Not wheelchair or ADA compliant.

"Highland House" is completely "off-the-grid".
Electricity is 100% Solar Powered (can not plug in anything with a heat element), Water is from our cistern and Propane fuels the heater and stove.
Running water from the cistern is great for showers and washing dishes but not so good to drink or cook with. Jugs of water for cooking & bottled water for drinking are provided in the fridge. Fridge is tiny.

Toilet is non-flushing, composting. Add a scoop or two of provided cedar chips and you're done. (empty toilet bucket into the composting can at bottom of yard near the pond when toilet is 2/3 or less full)
Bucket sink in bathroom needs emptied into shower when 2/3 full.

Gentle breezes will pull through open windows.
Fans in Livingroom & Loft Bedroom are provided for extra hot nights. Windows have screens.
No Air Conditioning

Highland House is pet friendly for all good doggies.
(beware of electric fences with your pets)

"Highland House" sleeps 4 people.
Sleep Loft (for 2) is accessed only by climbing the telescoping ladder. (must extend and climb ladder to access loft). There are 4 grab bars for stability.
Sofa (for 2) opens easily to a full size bed. Linens are under the sofa.

Additionally, there is a pop-up tent and 2 sleeping bags in the Gray Shed if you'd like to sleep outside under the stars.

Dark outside at night but there are solar lights around the property.
Very private & neighbors are not visible but nearby on main road.

At 8' wide x 20' long "Highland House" is Tiny. There is no extra room for lots of luggage and extra things inside. Pack Lightly.

No Wifi. No Televison.
Unplug & Relax!

Beware:
Electric Fences surround the pastures where the Scottish Highland Cattle, Sheep, Pigs & Chickens are so watch your pets, kids and yourselves.

There are two honey-bee hives located on the other side of the pond.

We have added some Bat Houses in the trees across the pond to create a Bat Habitat. Bats are good for the environment and need a good home too.

Mark is always happy to take you on a little tour of the farm and to meet some of the Scottish Highland cows to feed them apples......they love it!

We continue working with the "Silvo Pasture Tree Planting Initiative" to grow more trees on Pittsburgher Highland Farm. In the past 2 years we have added over 150 new trees to the farm.
We plan to build a larger barn this summer.
And we are adding a "Wedding & Event" Center for special occasions.

Lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
After a long white collar career in commercial real estate, I started raising Scottish Highland cattle in 2008 and doing real estate consulting work in struggling old steel towns southeast of Pittsburgh. Today I co-own (along with Dana O'Connor) Pittsburgher Highland Farm. We raise grass-fed Scottish Highland and Red Devon cattle as well as chickens, bees, fruit and produce on two farms near New Stanton PA. In addition to our own beef and eggs, we also market grass-fed lamb and pastured pork that we buy from trusted fellow sustainable farmers. We added Highland House to the mix in 2014 and starting inviting folks to come enjoy what we experience every day. Having grown up on a dairy farm, this endeavor has brought me full circle. I've always liked being outdoors doing things like running, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing and skiing, and now I get to do it every day! When not at the farm I live near Pittsburgh with my husband (also Mark) and our dog Bentley. Dana, Mark and I hope you enjoy the Tiny House Big Farm Adventure. It is our goal to create a relaxing atmosphere amidst a regenerative environment for everyone to experience. We encourage all to know your food sources and know your farmers and hope that your stay with us is a step toward doing just that!
