Much appreciated, Thanks
Overall, my family had a good stay. We really like the location and the neighbors were very nice. We would have appreciated having a current parking permit so we could park the car in front (or on the same block) of the apartment, which was more convenient for our family. Also, since this was my first experience with AirBNB, it would have been helpful for the host to reach out to us.
I arrived at the apartment to find the maid still cleaning. She gave me the key- I put my purse, and dogs in the apartment, locked up, and went to my car to get my luggage. Came back, and the key did not work! I had no phone or money, so went to a friends house, miles away to call Angie- she said she would be there in a half hour to let me in, but did not arrive for over 4 hours- I was left sitting and waiting in the dark- dogs left inside. Her husband arrived, and with no apology, told us we must not know how to unlock a door- then realized his key worked, and ours did not. The parking pass that was left for us had expired in December (it was march). I informed Angie, and she did not respond.
The photos of the apartment were taken when the furniture was new- but currently the sofa was faded and worn. The apartment is very old and dark, with very poor water pressure and not much hot water. Also, the stove is very old, and requires being lit with a match.
I was originally looking for an apartment for an entire month, and Angie accommodated me by arranging for me to stay in this unit for one week, and another unit of hers for the next 3 weeks. The second unit was a complete nightmare, with a burst pipe that took over a week to fix, and we were without water. She did offer to reimburse me for hotel, but only up to the amount of her nightly rate. If I could have afforded that, I would have stayed in a hotel in the first place! (Suggested I ask the neighbor to use their bathroom). I was told I had the only key to this unit, and needed to be available for the plummer- so, pretty much stay at the apartment all day with no access to water or a bathroom. I just wanted to cancel, and move to another AirBnB, but she did not want to give me a refund. I had to resort to an AirBnB intervention to cancel my reservation and get out. Luckily I was able to move on to a host that was very accommodating, and had a clean well organized apartment. I highly recommend Not booking with this host! Oh, and two more words- BED BUGS!
We stayed 4 weeks in Angies apartment and all in all enjoyed it.
WHAT WAS GREAT
The condo indeed is quite charming, with some stylish retro furniture and hardwood floors and it offers a lot of space.
It is located between Beverly/Melrose and Fairfax/LaBrea, so we were able to walk to some good restaurants, bars and the Grove. And since it is in the middle of LA you can reach every other place pretty fast and easy.
The bed is quite comfy and although the place is located right in the middle of everything, the neighborhood is very quiet.
Knowing the parking situation in LA we really appreciated how easily we could find parking around the apartment.
WHAT COULD BE/GET BETTER
We really would have appreciated the service of a personal check in and check out.
There was only one key to the apartment that just worked on the backdoor, so that we couldn't use the front-door and were not able to lock the apartment properly in those 4 weeks, which made us kind of nervous. Unfortunately Angie did not provide us with another key or solution, although she said she would call for somebody to repair the doors.
There were some basic items missing in the kitchen, but after talking to Angie we just bought the stuff and she refunded it right away, so not much of a deal.
The warm water pressure depends on the people in the lower apartment using it at the same time, so some times we were surprised by cold or just no water while taking a shower…
By and large we would say it is good place to stay, especially because of the location.
The apartment could have been taken care of little bit better to make the stay an even better experience.
My week long stay went well. The place was clean, with clear directions on getting in and dealing with parking. Great location in LA too. Only issue was the couch was not great for sleeping.
Angie was very easy to communicate with and was most helpful.
Upon arrival discovered the toaster was broken so were instructed to buy a new one which I would be reimbursed for. Easier said than done without transport however once organised I was paid back very quickly.
Would have been really helpful to have some instructions left as to how to turn the gas on and light the pilot lights to operate the stove top and oven. Someone came to the rescue but that meant unable to even boil the kettle till 9pm that night.
A nice little place but quite old and lots of neighbour noise from next door. They even left a note on the door asking not to talk on the phone from the bedroom after 10pm.
Overall a good stay in cute and price appropriate accommodation.
