Recently renovated by 2 emerging Architects, this late 1820's Barn is unique. On the fringe of the CBD, Hobart's cultural attractions are just a short stroll away. Grab a coffee at Pigeon hole, an aperitif at Sidecar and dinner at Garagistes. Enjoy!
As designers our approach to the Barn has always been to keep as much of the (incredibly beautiful and richly textured) existing building fabric as possible. The original sandstone walls are exposed both internally and externally. The timber shingled roof and existing beams contrast with the new kitchen and bathroom insertion. The Barn is light and open, yet simultaneously cosy.
Fantastic stay in the heart of beautiful Hobart.
For design and architecture nerds, The Barn is amazing. Beautiful little details in all of the spaces create a homely but interesting place to rest your head.
Liz was helpful in booking and provided a very lengthy guide to the area with all her favourites which came very much in handy.
We will definitely stay again when next in Hobart.
We had a great three night stay in The Barn. The house is beautiful, very smartly designed and full of nice touches to make it all the more enjoyable, including the wood heater for Hobart's cool evenings. Liz was great leading up to our stay, suggesting local hotspots and favourites and providing helpful hints for Hobart and surrounds. The house is located tucked away behind a large block on a quiet street and is walking distance to Hobart CBD, good neighbouring cafes, pubs and restaurants, and also to the waterfront. If travelling as a pair I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Hobart. Very highly recommended.
Amazing stay. The best AirBnB we have stayed at!
Thank you for the bottle of bubbles and easter treat:)
We would love to stay here again.
I don't think I'll ever forget my visit at The Barn for two reasons, this was my first ever Airbnb accommodation, and it was one of the most beautiful spaces I've ever had the pleasure to stay in. Without even meeting Liz I got a great sense of her personality and style from The Barn. It was such a refreshing example of someone who has brought their modern approach to a building which has complemented its history & age so perfectly, making it effortlessly liveable!
Like I said, unfortunately we didn't meat Liz, but her instructions for accessing the house were a breeze to follow! Everything was thought of in terms of decor & living necessities that you wouldn't otherwise have room for in your suitcase when travelling.
I would 100% love to return to The Barn on my next visit to Hobart.
Thank you Liz!
We weren't able to meet Liz, but instructions were easy to follow to find 'The Barn'.
Gorgeous place to stay, relaxing and light filled. It was so cosy; and stayed much warmer then expected, I was disappointed that we weren't able to use the coonara fireplace. Loved the design, and the hidden bathroom. The kitchen is a great use of space.
5 mins walk from Woolworths and the centre of town, 8 mins walk to Salamanca. We didn't hire a car, and it was lovely to just get around on foot. Highly recommend a walk up Mt Knocklofty for views of Hobart, it's a 10km round trip on foot inc. the summit loop.
We'd definitely stay at The Barn again.
Lying in bed looking at the detail in the thatched roof, day dreaming of the horses from days past that were sleeping down stairs at night and listening to the chirps of nature whilst in the midst of a capital city - there is nothing more delightful. An amazing place to stay. The detail in the renovation is superb, it has inspired us.
Great location, a stroll to Salamanca and a car space is supplied.
Liz is a fantastic host, gave us a comprehensive list of ideas for things to do and eat during our stay. Many thanks. Will definitely be back. Mark and Shani
Striking architecturally designed property. Some sacrifice of function for form. Very comfy bed and great shower. Didn't ever speak to or meet host - but was provided some good info about Hobart by email.
I am a Graduate Architect living and working in Hobart, Tasmania. I love design and this island state. I love eating, walking, stretching, listening, watching and experiencing.
