About this listing
Our alpine-inspired house was built in 1970 and has a cottage feel. We are perched on top of a hill, with a mountain behind us and tall trees all around. Our street is quiet, and we sometimes glimpse wildlife (birds, squirrels, chipmunks, deer, and the occasional rabbit or fox in our yard. We are very close to Rocky Knob bike park and not far from many great hiking trails. My husband frequents our local trails and will give you detailed information about hikes - just ask!
Guests will of course have private use of the cozy room. The bathroom is just down the hall. (may be shared if others are booked during your stay. If this is a concern, please talk with the host before you book. Guests are also welcome to curl up on the couch in our living room or den (both have fireplaces!). Our downstairs den has a TV, mini-fridge, and microwave for our guests to use. Our large, covered front porch is a lovely place to read, bird watch, drink tea, etc. We've got blankets and a porch heater if it's chilly outside! The porch has a mini-fridge for your use. The porch is also equipped with speakers if you want to use your phone to play music/pandora.
Interaction with Guests
We will be in and out of the house during your stay. Each evening we will check with you to see if you need any help planning your next day (suggestions, directions) and to arrange the menu and time for your breakfast. We would love to enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine with you and talk about your day, if you would like that. On weekday mornings help yourself to continental breakfast offerings in the kitchen. On weekend mornings, let us serve you something special like omelets, pancakes, or eggs cooked to order!
Our neighborhood is great! We have some lovely neighbors on our very street and socialize with them often. However, that said, the houses are far apart and when you are in our house or even on the porch, it's pretty relaxing and quiet. Our neighborhood has gorgeous trees and plants!
Boone has Appalcart, but it doesn't come out to our neighborhood. You are gonna need your car...but my husband can equip you with maps, detailed directions, etc. Four wheel drive is recommended for our road and driveway in the winter.
Other Things to Note
Our house is home to a house cat (Freya) and an older dog (Matilda). They are friendly, will greet you, and will be interested in you, but once they know you are staying, they'll drift back into their favorite activity - sleep. Because our house is older, some floorboards creak.
Quiet hours between 11 pm and 7 am
Absolutely no smoking on the property.
Absolutely no pets.
Please provide the exact number of guests in your reservation. Once we book with you our agreement with you is for that exact number and no add-on guests to your party will be accepted. Also, we ask that you do not bring anyone back with you to our home. (This might seem peculiar, but it happened to us once, so we feel the need to state our stance on it here).
About the Host, Karen
Our friends have jokingly called our house their own private B&B for years, and one of them even named it for us: The Browna Divina. We have a sweet little guest room & bath across the hall upstairs on our main level OR a basement suite with a private entrance for your use, but when you stay with us, you are welcome to use our living room, den, kitchen, and fabulous porch! Your stay includes coffee, tea, and continental breakfast. We are interested in hosting people who want to come enjoy Boone! We can advise you on hiking trails, dining in the high country, ski resorts, and local events and help you plan your days while you are here. Come stay with us!
