double bed, claw foot tub bath around the corner.
A large, bright room upstairs in an old, restored, farmhouse on half an acre, that has been turned into rain gardens and a backyard habitat. This is in the Overlook neighborhood of N. Portland, which overlooks Swan Island. You can walk to the river, the Mississippi Arts neighborhood, or explore cool eateries, cafes, pubs, and entertainment close by. Public transportation is convenient, making this a great place to start exploring all Portland has to offer. I keep extra bikes for guests to rent, and provide secure bike storage. You are welcome to enjoy the common areas, and there is a great kitchen, so cooking is encouraged. There is always a project going on in the garden, so feel free to join in, or just kick back and enjoy a green, peaceful refuge in the city. Leela the German Shepard, and Mzcora the cat, live here also, and will welcome you!

Wonderful place to stay in Portland. Taizz was a gracious host filled with information on the city. Easily accessible to downtown Portland Would highly recommend this for any travelers passing through. The description was accurate and as were all reviews.
My experience during my stay was nothing short of amazing! I needed a place to stay for a two month internship, and Taizz's home was in a great location and had everything for me to be comfortable and worry free. I stayed in one of the coziest rooms I'd ever been in, could cook with ease in her lovely kitchen, and the entire house was always kept clean and inviting. Taizz is a wonderful host who was also so kind and accommodating in making sure I had everything I needed and was a delight to chat with and get to know. Her pets are also the sweetest!
I spent weekends exploring Portland with a fellow intern also staying with Taizz, and we had so much fun getting to know the city and eating our way around town--often from Taizz's expert suggestions. If you are looking for a true Portland experience be it for a short or long term stay, I can't imagine a better place to stay than Taizz's house! I miss it already and can't wait to come back.
I enjoyed my stay with Taizz and her great dog, Leila. Taizz is so kind and very helpful with directions and great areas to check out in Portland. She is so interesting to talk to, she taught me how to make Turkish coffee, how to make a Dutch Baby for breakfast! I can see myself being lifelong friends with Taizz and would love to come back to her retreat again! She is an awesome host and I would highly recommend a stay with her in her quiet retreat. It is minutes to anywhere in Portland so getting around is very easy.
I spent 3 months at Taizz's place and had a wonderful time! Taizz is very welcoming to her guests, sharing her kombucha, berries or other fruits from her garden. She helped me get acquainted with the Portland area and always offered suggestions for local eateries or events. Eating dinner together, having conversations, or taking the dog out for a walk or to play was common. But she also knows how to give a person privacy. Besides the occasional jam at her place, her place is very quiet and peaceful. One can enjoy sitting or reading in the garden. Leela, the German shepherd, is always ready to play with anyone she can, which makes for fun times as well.
Overall, I very much enjoyed by stay at Taizz's place and would love to return sometime.
I definitely recommend staying with Taizz - she was a truly wonderful host! Her home was comfortable and charming, and she really made me feel right at home. She provides delicious coffee and breakfast in the morning and from what I have heard, I am not the first person to leave a total convert to cold brew coffee. Leela the dog is the cutest and sweetest Germain Shepard I have ever met and Taizz is a wealth of knowledge about things to do in Portland. Make sure you leave enough time to also enjoy the lovely garden and neighborhood.
I stayed at Taizz' for a month and I could not have been happier; maybe if I had more time from work to be more engaging. She has been quite helpful throughout and I am glad to have followed her suggestions for venues. The surrounding neighborhoods are fun to explore and the place is walking distance to the rail line if you do not have a bike or loaned one form Taizz.
I arrived in Portland on January first to start my new job. I decided to rent a place for four weeks and search my own apartment during this time.
It was the best decision and I made! It was not just a place to stay, it was a wonderful experience!
Taizz made me feel like home from the first moment I entered the house. She helped me with all questions I had and was always there for me, when I needed help. She showed me around in her car, we went grocery shopping together and even helped me to find furniture and move into my new apartment! She really puts an effort in making everyone feel at home in her house. I tried her home-brewed Kombucha and she even made apple pie every Sunday morning!
The room was nice and spacious with everything you need: a desk to work, a bed, shelves, wardrobe, ... The house is very clean, nicely decorated and has a warm atmosphere. The common areas can be used for every one and the kitchen is great. I loved to cook there in the evenings or on weekends. There are two bathrooms, one in the ground floor and one in the first floor. I shared my apartment with Taizz, which worked perfectly. Also there is free Wifi in the whole house and you can use the washing machine anytime.
The area is well connected - bus number 35 is 4 min walk away and goes towards Downtown (15 min) and the Max stop is 12 min walk away. Also Taizz offers bikes to rent, which is great option to get around Portland.
Perfect place for: single travelers, business travelers, people who plan to move to Portland and are looking for a place for the first weeks
Might not be ideal for: People who don't like animals, families
It was a wonderful time and I will definitely send all my relatives there, who will come and visit me in Portland!
I really can't say enough wonderful things about Taizz! I stayed here for 3 months for a contracting position and absolutely loved the house, the host and everything that came along with the two. Taizz is respectful, giving, kind and an overall joy to be around. Her house and yard are beautiful and she works hard to keep both in great shape! The rooms are clean and homey and the kitchen is large and accessible. I honestly felt like it was my home away from home.
Anytime I needed anything, something from the store, a fresh towel or even a pair of ears to gab to she was quick to offer the best assistance. She is great in the fact that I would wake up on a Saturday morning and she would have a dutch baby made from apples from the garden baking in the oven (mmm I'll miss those!). She also has an extensive knowledge of the neighborhood and offers great advice on where to go and what to do if you're looking to venture out.
I was very quickly impressed with the amount of care and effort she puts into hosting and I will definitely be back. I am so thrilled that I not only have a great place to stay in Portland but a new friend. Thanks, Taizz!
Taizz is a very heartwarming and welcoming host. The place was beautiful, extremely cozy and definitely eco-friendly, which is a must these days. She's a wonderful person to have a morning chat with and a great storyteller. I will definitely be back if I decide to be in Portland again.
Taizz is a warm, caring, fantastic host with whom I enjoyed chatting with on many different topics.
She was very helpfull with tips on getting around Portland by bike & even guided me (by bike) to a great nearby eatery.
I'd be thrilled to have Taizz as my host on a future visit to Portland.
