About This Listing
Spacious, clean and comfortable. Quiet but convenient.
Free fast Wi-Fi and free permit for street parking. Loan of Go Cards.
Close to South Bank, West End, The Convention Centre, the city and main bus and train lines.
This apartment has a queen sized bedroom, a large living area, a private bathroom and a fully equipped kitchenette.
The house is situated in a quiet neighbourhood 1/2 block behind the hustle and bustle of Highgate Hill. It is perched on the lower slope of the hill with city and mountain views, river breezes and has during the summer, a solar heated plunge pool.
The apartment also has free fast Wi-Fi, large flat screen TV with DVD's, permit car parking and loan of Go Cards.
There is a double sofa bed in the lounge.
Overhead fans are in the bedroom and living area and there is air conditioning in the bedroom (which can be used to cool the entire apartment) and a heater in the living area.
This is one of two apartments on the lower level of a heritage Queenslander with its own entrance and outside verandah.
(The other listing has the same photo and the description is, "Inner City with Views, Pool", and booked on its own costs a bit more because it has a large outside courtyard.)
Both apartments may be booked simultaneously for a larger family or gathering. Please see "2 BRM, 2 BATH INNER CITY" listing.
This apartment has a covered verandah next to the tiered garden at the top of the steps to the street.
I can also give you access to the deck on the top level with spectacular views of the city to the north and sometimes incredible sunsets over Mount Cootha in the west.
The solar heated, fully tilled and shade cloth covered plunge pool is a joy for cooling off in the summer and is situated in the backyard under the mango trees.
The bathroom in this apartment has a shower and a big bath is situated down the hallway next to my tool storage area. I occasionally need access to this hallway to clean the other apartment if a guest departs. A door between this hallway and your living area may be closed and locked during these times.
Interaction with Guests
I am almost always available to give you the key to your apartment and at that time I usually show you around the house and backyard which includes the gate to the back lane way. If you do not know Brisbane, I can also show you where you are using a map and the view from the top deck.
I have collected heaps of information in folders about getting around Brisbane, the local restaurants and Brisbane sightseeing.
If you arrive and depart in the daylight hours I will try to be available to pick you up or drop you off at the local train station.
I will also endeavour to take you on your first grocery shop upon arrival. A 24 hour convenience store is located 1/2 block away but the larger grocery store is located about 1 km away at the northern part of West End.
I often do not see guests after their arrival because the apartments are on a different level of the house and I mostly use the back door. I am often available if you need help or have questions.
The local hub of Highgate Hill is ½ block away and has coffee shops, restaurants, a 24 hour convenience store with an ATM, a bottle shop, bakery and petrol station.
South Bank, a beautiful and vibrant parkland on the Brisbane River, is a major entertainment spot in Brisbane and it is a short walk of about 7 minutes down the hill to the centre of the park where the swimming lagoon is located.
South Bank and nearby West End have a wide variety of restaurants and beer bars and have lots of action, especially on the weekends with numerous markets selling fresh produce, handmade goods and hosting food trucks.
A 10 minute walk takes you to the main street in West End.
It is about a 10 minute walk to The Convention Centre and about 7 minutes to major Bus and Train Stations.
The local bus stop is about 2 blocks away and will take you to West End in 5 minutes and to the city centre or museums in less than 15 minutes. This bus comes every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 1/2 hour on weekends
The major train and bus stations at SouthBank are about 4 blocks and are less than a 10 minute walk. The train from here is a direct line to the airport or, in the opposite direction, the Gold Coast and come every 15 minutes during the week days.
The major bus line at SouthBank can also zip you into the city in less than 10 minutes or in the opposite direction, the University of Queensland in about 1/2 hour.
There is ample street parking and and because we are within 2 km of the city centre I provide you with a Parking Permit which allows you to park for an unlimited time on this street.

I had a short but lovely stay at Melissa's house. She was a perfect host! Melissa went above & beyond what I would expect of a host, I won't mention specifics as I don't want to set a precedent
We had a great stay here. Melissa creates an incredibly homey space with tons of information for the area. Everything is provided and we felt really relaxed having just arrived in Australia. So much to do in walking distance with easy access to the west end for great food and an easy walk down to the beach where the kids played all day. Thanks so much!
Great host. She picked us up from the train station and dropped us back to the station, making the transition from the airport to the accommodation very convenient and cheap. She was friendly and the listing was accurate. There were other people staying in the subdivision next door to us who were reasonably noisy early in the morning, but this could not be heard in our bedroom.
The accommodation is amazingly comfortable, quite and clean and located conveniently close to everything in CBD. Melissa is even more amazing: kind, helpful and pleasant. Strongly recommend to everyone.
Melissa is a great host and nothing was too much trouble for her to do to make my stay as relaxing as possible, from collecting me at the station to the run to the grocery store and odd snippets of advice on local amenities.
The apartment was just as she describes it, and it was so easy to get to Southbank or into the centre of Brisbane.
Well worth putting on your shortlist for a trip to Brisbane.

About the Host, Melissa
I am originally from California and have lived in this neighbourhood 34 years and this house, 29. I love living so close to South Bank, the Cultural Centre and the Museums. I particularly enjoy meeting a friend for lunch in one of the great cafes in this area and going to an exhibit at GOMA or the Art Gallery.
I traveled a lot before I had children and in recent years have travelled often to California and London to visit family. Now I am delighted the world is coming to me with all the far flung Australians and International guests coming to stay. It is a real joy and pleasure.
