I can't say enough about this hidden gem in the hills of Culebra....I really had no outstanding expectations upon booking this place, just needed a cheap peaceful place for a night. When we arrived Lisa was so kind and welcoming! So present and attentive to all our needs. Felt like an old friend immediately. Our 2 bedroom suite was huge! Way more than needed for two, ideal for groups and families on a budget. The property was so pretty, full of tropical plants, with the most Amazing views of the Culebra hills and the nearby ocean. Most of all though, we loved the pool! Nestled in the hilltop and open all night with every star visible above us in the sky! Just wish we could have spent more time here!
We actually stayed in H302. Lisa is very friendly and helpful. She tries hard to make you feel at home. The Apt. is away from the center of the town, so you definitely need your own transportation. The views are excellent. The apt. was clean, well furnished and well appointed. Kitchen could be better equipped with utensils. There was also no hot water in the shower. With a little more attention to these details, this could easily be a 4.5 Star review.
Lisa is a great host. She is hospitality, friendly and helpful. Firstly we have a great time in the villa. It's big, clean, and I love the balcony. Secondly, the view is really beautiful. You can see the stars at the balcony. There is a big swimming pool and a bar as well. Lisa taught me swim successfully in this swimming pool. Thanks to Lisa!!!!!!!(I've learned how to swim for many years, but Lisa did it in one night) she also accompany us to snorkeling just for protecting me. So sweet!!!
Lisa is the best host I have even seen. And she pick us up from the port. Later she also opened the bar is and driven us to restaurants. We enjoy ourselves very much. The room is also great, we can see mountain and sea just over the windows. Best experience ever and all have to thank to Lisa. We wish we can stay much longer or forever!
From the first time I had contact with Lisa she showed her hospitality and availability to solved any inconvinience that happened to us before to get to the hotel. She was very helpful and able to make our vacations very pleaseant. At the point that she was willing to bring us the towels to the beach. The night we finally arrived, she welcome us with food. At this moment, I understood why she advertised her hotel as a "Home away from home". The villa was very clean and exceed our expetactions. The kitchen had pans that you could use to cook. I highly recommend this place if you want to get away from the noisy city and traffic jam. Waking up in the morning and have the combination view of the mountains and the sea it just unbelievable.
Vivian...people like you is why I love this life as a hotelier. I am so joyful that you recognize that we truly care about our guests. A hotel is a "hospital" for well people; where well people come to feel even better, it is a 24 &/7 commitment. Even when I am asleep, I have one ear for a guest who may call me in need. This is a labor of love for me, to share my amazement with nature, my bedazzled entranced state of appreciation. Thank you for sharing back with me that you appreciate the effort we are all making to make your stay comfortable. We are changing the name of my place to Mango Moon Villas...economy suites and rooms, a new standard in Culebra. Please come back and see us again Vivian and we will be even more ready to make your stay memorable. Thank you airbnb for bringing such quality travelers to our...thresholds.
Very nice accommodations. Lovely pool; true 2/2 suitable for couples.
Lisa was very nice and helpful! FYI, Internet not in unit, but in office.
So nice that you took the time to write these helpful words.
Yes, the land phones were busted when you were here. I am putting two more lines ad the corresponding cell numbers on the web site as soon as I can, each from different mobile providers - to have redundancy in the phone communication that we offer our guests. Once a guest goes definite, they should receive my personal cell phone for texting. I receive texts which I respond to all the time, (with in a few minutes usually except when sleeping, snorkeling, or out on the sea , enjoying my stand-up-sailboard, "SUS", LOl ). I try to always be on-top-of the arrivals; and by-the-way, airbnb guest check-ins and also the daily requests are my priority. Airbnb is dear to my heart, the people are awesome!
A good example of the potential of the vacation experience is people looking to move here, and make this island a better place. For example... my new friend Lisa Lewis, (she returns tomorrow)! She make organic skin creams and soaps from her own bee hives, (we met her from airbnb as well). My plan is to have organic locally sourced shampoo and skin cream.
My team and I are making wonderful friendships with the guests that are looking to form a bond....as for the more privacy seeking guests who are looking for a more anonymous experience, we are sensitive as to not interrupt their vibe, but we are very up, and sometimes its hard to restrain the enthusiasm and we get a little chatty!
Internet is coming to all the units, five out of our 17 already have it.
Lisa was a very sweet host. She offered complimentary (really good) coffee in the mornings, and even let us borrow her cooler for our beach visits. She recommended the perfect snorkeling beach, easy access and great coral reefs. Check-in and out were smooth.
We stayed in apartment H102. We didn't spend much time there (2 nights), but it was very spacious and had everything we could need for that stay. I couldn't talk about longer stays since I didn't even open the cabinets to see what was available. The TV was a bit small but adequate; we didn't go to Culebra to watch TV anyway. We only used the master bedroom, which had a king size bed. It wasn't very comfortable, as we kept sinking towards the middle of the mattress. But, we were so tired that wasn't noticeable within 2 nights. I am not sure the sheets were clean, as some of the pillows smelled like another person. There were more available though, and there is a washer and dryer which was nice and would've taken care of that if I was staying longer.
The entire apartment complex could use some maintenance, like a coat of paint. But, the property is far better that anything else I saw in Culebra. And, from what I understood, Lisa was in the process of revamping the place. It sure has potential and I would come back again.
This is Lisa. I appreciate your review. I will write more soon, as I am in a hurry right now.
There are three units with lower quality beds. Most of the beds are top-of-the line.
The sheets are always washed, but I cut back on chemicals, especially clorox, and it looks like I cut back too far! From your review I learned that stain sheets make it on to the beds, I have seen a few with small reust stains from the washer and dryer, but sheets with stains... that is not cool. I have to go through and rip them up and make rags. Most are 100 percent cotton and stain easily, but none of the stains are blood, I have a very pricy blood stain remover I discovered, by Ecolab, it is made of live enzymes that eat blood.
I really enjoy your comments, thank you. FYI I am a bit slower now and I can take 3 villas off the inventory and do some fast fixes. Thanks again Michelle, come back soon. I am making a repeat airbnb reward program, with goodies. See you soon! Lisa Penfield

Hi I'm Lisa!! Excited to meet you and share the magic of Culebra with you. My life started in Upstate New York, the middle of seven kids spawned from a groundbreaking theoretical physicist. How I got from there to a sail boat in the Caribbean to world-class windsurfing, to B&B hosting in Paradise is a long crazy story with a lot of exclamation points!!! Too long to explain here but I'm happy to share it with you whenever you can join me in this wonderland.
In a shellnut: I wanna make this world a better place and the best way I know to do that is by providing an environment where all my guests can have the most relaxing and reviving experience possible.
