About this listing
Looking for a place with character? Surrounded by nature not concrete? Still close to the city, but far away to disconnect and go for a hike up the hills?
Then this Treehouse in the hills of Escazu, the IN place of San Jose might be just right!
Beautiful, one-of-a-kind Treehouse, done with lots of light wood and lots of windows; built with care right into the tree for a unique experience. A world away from downtown, but connected with a direct bus that will take you downtown for all the hustle.
I'm listing this space for my good friends Juanita and Roy, who have lived and developed the property for over 40 years (please note that both speak English). Beautiful grounds, lots of tropical foliage and flowers, they even have a fruit orchard and grow some organic veggies. You have never seen a hummingbird fly around, here you will!
It's a Treehouse in a living tree and space is not abundant, but there is a private terrace on the lower deck, a new mattress on the upper floor accessible by ladder only and you will feel part of your surroundings.
There always a fresh breeze going through the tree and you'll need a sweater or more. Breakfast will be served at the main house, usually on the outdoor terrace of the main house or indoors if the weather is not quite up to task. The Treehouse has no kitchen and meals are not provided. There are options in San Antonio de Escazu and also Escazu.
The Treehouse is ideal for guests that want to enjoy and experience regional cuisine and eat out a lot.
Wifi is available at the Treehouse.
With higher altitude, it's advisable to have a weather or long sleeve shirt as it is much fresher compared to San Jose and the beach.
The Treehouse, use of the outdoor terrace of the main house. Guests are free to explore the property and observe the many birds and butterflies. There is also fresh fruit on the trees, but please coordinate first.
The garden is also great to catch a nap in the afternoon and catch some sun! The Treehouse has it's own deck as well.
Interaction with Guests
Guests can define the level of interaction, but both Juanita and Roy are always happy to have guests and I personally spend afternoons full of great hospitality, yummy food, lots of talking there. Both speak English.
You are up in the hills of Escazu and not in walking distance to the hip parts, restaurants and shopping centers.
So if nightlife is important, this most likely is not the place.
There is a direct bus and for those that rent a car it's perfect. There are also buses that go from downtown San Jose to the town center, these run more frequently.
There is a direct bus and for those that rent a car it's perfect. Taxis are fairly inexpensive.
The last stop of the direct bus to Escazu and San Jose is around the bend from the property and takes about 45 min to downtown.
AIRPORT TO TREEHOUSE: We offer a shuttle service from the airport to Treehouse for $ 40 one way.
Public transportation is possible by first catching a bus from the airport to San Jose, then in walking distance from the bus terminal is the starting point for the bus to San Antonio de Escazu, El Curio. This is recommendable only for the hardy budget traveler with not so much luggage to carry around.
Here are the GPS coordinates: 9.892254, -84.130458
Other Things to Note
It's fresh up in the mountains and even fresher in the tree. There is always a breeze going and you won't miss not having air conditioning come out of a box.
The Treehouse is built right within the tree and you will see some branches snaking through it. When there is wind you will hear it creaking and the leaves rustling, it part of what makes it unique.
Security is an issue in all of Costa Rica, and if you plan to stay out late, you need to coordinate with Juanita and Rey. Whilst we welcome kids, after all the Treehouse was built for the grandson, we have a 2 person limit. Note neither the Treehouse nor the main house are equipped with any child-proofing gadgets.
Love to read, enjoy the days as they come. Every now and then a stray comes along - some have stayed, while other cats and dogs have found new homes, so there is always some assortment of 4 legged friends around.
I have started to add a couple of additional listings from very good friends and I do vouch for each of the listings added. I hope that these unique listings can round out a trip to Costa Rica!
