About this listing

Looking for a place with character? Surrounded by nature not concrete? Still close to the city, but far away to disconnect and go for a hike up the hills?

Then this one-of-a-kind Treehouse in the surrounding hills of San Antonio de Escazu might be just right!

The space

Beautiful, one-of-a-kind Treehouse, done with lots of light wood and lots of windows; built with care right into the tree for a unique experience. A world away from downtown, but connected with a direct bus that will take you downtown for all the hustle.

I'm listing this space for my good friends Juanita and Roy, who have lived and developed the property for over 40 years (please note that both speak English). Beautiful grounds, lots of tropical foliage and flowers, they even have a fruit orchard and grow some organic veggies. You have never seen a hummingbird fly around, here you will!

It's a Treehouse in a living tree and space is not abundant, but there is a private terrace on the lower deck, a new mattress on the upper floor accessible by ladder only and you will feel part of your surroundings.
There always a fresh breeze going through the tree and you'll need a sweater or more. Breakfast will be served at the main house, usually on the outdoor terrace of the main house or indoors if the weather is not quite up to task. The Treehouse has no kitchen and meals are not provided. There are options in San Antonio de Escazu and also Escazu.
The Treehouse is ideal for guests that want to enjoy and experience regional cuisine and eat out a lot.

Wifi is available at the Treehouse.

With higher altitude, it's advisable to have a weather or long sleeve shirt as it is much fresher compared to San Jose and the beach.

Guest access

The Treehouse, use of the outdoor terrace of the main house. Guests are free to explore the property and observe the many birds and butterflies. There is also fresh fruit on the trees, but please coordinate first.
The garden is also great to catch a nap in the afternoon and catch some sun! The Treehouse has it's own deck as well.

Interaction with guests

Guests can define the level of interaction, but both Juanita and Roy are always happy to have guests and I personally spend afternoons full of great hospitality, yummy food, lots of talking there. Both speak English.

Other things to note

It's fresh up in the mountains and even fresher in the tree. There is always a breeze going and you won't miss not having air conditioning come out of a box.

The Treehouse is built right within the tree and you will see some branches snaking through it. When there is wind you will hear it creaking and the leaves rustling, it part of what makes it unique.

Leroy and Juanita are the sweetest people in the world! They made our stay super safe and comfortable. We hung out with them most of the time and had a blast. They are full of advice, good stories and offered all the help we needed. We fell in love with them and the tree house! It is definitely a peace of heaven in the mountains. We plan on coming back to visit them because they are just that amazing! Highly recommended for a few days as part of a whole trip :) thank you for everything, we are two lucky girls!

Juanita and Leroy were the sweetest hosts ever. They took us to the bank and to the store to buy anything we needed. They really go above and beyond. Juanita insisted on making us breakfast and even dinner. Really felt like family staying with them. Leroy dropped us off at the bus station to get to manuel antonio and picked us up later in the evening. They are simply amazing nothing but good things to say about the two of them. We also missed our flight and we had to move dates around and that was also no issue. Very accomodating! The tree house is lovely! Its definately an experience! We got to hear rain and thunder all night and it was interesting! I will definately be returning soon! Juanita and Leroy you will be greatly missed!

The treehouse is a little piece of Costa Rican heaven. Juanita and Leroy are as good as it gets, we didn't want to leave. Breakfast was prepared each morning and included fruit from trees on the property, talk about tasty! Everything about the stay was wonderful and highly recommended for anyone traveling to CR, it's a can't miss.

For the first time visitors to Costa Rica,a few tips. Airport customs and Immigration will take an hour to clear. Costa Rica does not have house nr,s.....nor street names on a post, bring a GPS or you will get lost ! The roads are built in a come as you went fashion ! there are no logical directions here ! Keep to the speed limit of 50mph on the highway, the police see rental cars from miles away.(the fines start at 350 bucks !) The roads have water dumping gutters the size of Luke Skywalkers battleship,if you drive your rental car into them it will take the locals a week to haul you out ! On the highways use the left two or one lanes only, the right is for Horses, bicycles, lost tourists like you, joggers !and Buses picking up passengers! If you hit a parked bus at 50 mph on the highway your suitcases will move from the rear seats to the front dashboard and stop under the folded hood in front really quickly ! Get the local insurance ,the US one or Alliance is not valid in Cost Rica. Do not fly with Spirit Airlines....they do not pay departure taxes.....great to hear you can,t check in until you pay 29.95 per person departure tax ! As for the tree house i can only give 5 * i would like to give them 6* but we cant give that many ! The surrounding property is wonderful, the hosts are fantastic and the view (once you do find it!)is absolutely stunning ! We enjoyed our stay at the tree house, when we left we were sad to go because Juanita and Lee Roy are the best caretakers we have had the pleasure of meeting so far. When you arrive they will make you feel right at home ! We will be back again, this time with a new rental car not as bent and broken as the last one ! If you book this listing you will not be disappointed !

The treehouse is amazing and Leroy and Juanita make the stay even more unique and special. We enjoyed the beautiful view and cool breeze and hearing about Juanita and Leroy's life experiences. Juanita and Leroy took us in like family and gave us just the right amount of quiet personal time. If we are ever back in the area, we would love to visit the treehouse again.

Love to read, enjoy the days as they come. Every now and then a stray comes along - some have stayed, while other cats and dogs have found new homes, so there is always some assortment of 4 legged friends around.

I have started to add a couple of additional listings from very good friends and I do vouch for each of the listings added. I hope that these unique listings make your trip to Costa Rica simply amazing!

Check my wishlist for a one of a kind Treehouse close to San Jose, a unique Yurt close to the Chirripo up in the mountains in the middle of Costa Rica or a romantic getaway in Tortuguero. All my listings are LBGT friendly.

For those that are travelling to San Jose, I am travelling throughout June, but have my friend Erika from Venezuela co-hosting on my behalf. She speaks English and she and my dogs will welcome you just the same as if I would.
