The space

Beautiful, one-of-a-kind Treehouse, done with lots of light wood and lots of windows; built with care right into the tree for a unique experience. A world away from downtown, but connected with a direct bus that will take you downtown for all the hustle.

I'm listing this space for my good friends Juanita and Roy, who have lived and developed the property for over 40 years (please note that both speak English). Beautiful grounds, lots of tropical foliage and flowers, they even have a fruit orchard and grow some organic veggies. You have never seen a hummingbird fly around, here you will!

It's a Treehouse in a living tree and space is not abundant, but there is a private terrace on the lower deck, a new mattress on the upper floor accessible by ladder only and you will feel part of your surroundings.
There always a fresh breeze going through the tree and you'll need a sweater or more. Breakfast will be served at the main house, usually on the outdoor terrace of the main house or indoors if the weather is not quite up to task. The Treehouse has no kitchen and meals are not provided. There are options in San Antonio de Escazu and also Escazu.
The Treehouse is ideal for guests that want to enjoy and experience regional cuisine and eat out a lot.

Wifi is available at the Treehouse.

With higher altitude, it's advisable to have a weather or long sleeve shirt as it is much fresher compared to San Jose and the beach.

Guest access

The Treehouse, use of the outdoor terrace of the main house. Guests are free to explore the property and observe the many birds and butterflies. There is also fresh fruit on the trees, but please coordinate first.
The garden is also great to catch a nap in the afternoon and catch some sun! The Treehouse has it's own deck as well.

Interaction with guests

Guests can define the level of interaction, but both Juanita and Roy are always happy to have guests and I personally spend afternoons full of great hospitality, yummy food, lots of talking there. Both speak English.

The neighborhood

You are up in the hills of Escazu and not in walking distance to the hip parts, restaurants and shopping centers.

So if nightlife is important, this most likely is not the place.

There is a direct bus and for those that rent a car it's perfect. There are also buses that go from downtown San Jose to the town center, these run more frequently.

Getting around

There is a direct bus and for those that rent a car it's perfect.
The last stop of the direct bus to Escazu and San Jose is around the bend from the property and takes about 45 min to 1 hour to downtown. Taxis in San Jose are fairly inexpensive.

UBER: Use your Uber app or download to your smartphone using this invite code for a few $$$ off: alexandrah3635ue There is free wifi throughout the airport and it is generally working well now.
SHUTTLE: We offer a shuttle service from the airport to Treehouse for $ 45 one way. Pre-Payment per Paypal request, which can be paid securely wither thru Paypal or Credit Card.
TAXI: Grab a cab at the airport. Prices depend. Make sure you have your hosts contact info and the confirmation page handy as drivers will generally get lost and will have to call for what we refer to as Tico style directions.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Public transportation is possible by first catching a bus from the airport to San Jose, then walking over to the bus stop for the buses to Escazu. Look for the bus to San Antonio de Escazu, El Curio. This is recommendable only for the hardy budget traveler with not so much luggage to carry around. Check for bus times with me please to avoid frustration.

Other things to note

It's fresh up in the mountains and even fresher in the tree. There is always a breeze going and you won't miss not having air conditioning come out of a box.

The Treehouse is built right within the tree and you will see some branches snaking through it. When there is wind you will hear it creaking and the leaves rustling, it part of what makes it unique.

The treehouse is amazing and Leroy and Juanita make the stay even more unique and special. We enjoyed the beautiful view and cool breeze and hearing about Juanita and Leroy's life experiences. Juanita and Leroy took us in like family and gave us just the right amount of quiet personal time. If we are ever back in the area, we would love to visit the treehouse again.

The tree house stay was so perfect. Alexandra was easy to contact and stayed in touch before and during the trip. She was always available if any questions arose. Juanita and Leroy were so sweet and friendly and spoke English very well. They took us to a local soda there our first night and were always available to give advice and ideas of things to do. Juanita's breakfasts were perfect fuel for the day! They even brought apple pie for us to have during the day. Their dogs are also very sweet and wonderful! The view is so gorgeous from their grounds and from the treehouse. It was a little creaky at night when it was windy but we slept through it just fine. Juanita checked with you each morning to make sure you sleep ok and will offer their guest room if needed! I 100% recommend staying here and my boyfriend and I will definitely stay here again on out next visit to Costa Rica!

Don't miss your chance to stay here!!The owners of the property, Leroy and Juanita, are amazing people and we wish we could have stayed longer. They are both friendly and warm, making you feel right at home. The treehouse is situated on 7 acres of lush garden and is crafted beautifully... the bed is very comfortable and the large windows and wrap around patio offer gorgeous views of the city. Leroy had great suggestions on places to eat and things to do, and Juanita cooks a breakfast that makes you feel like royalty. It is about a 5-10 minute drive into the city below, and San Antonio/Escazú is filled with kind people and lots of character. There is safe parking on site and the treehouse was very clean and cozy. The best part of our Costa Rican vacation for sure!

As stated by many of the previous guests, Juanita and Roy are excellent hosts. They waited up late for us to arrive from the airport and greeted us with snacks and friendly conversation. I've never felt so at home in someone else's place so quickly. The treehouse is very nice and it is a fantastic hideaway overlooking the city and valley of San Jose. Unfortunately it was extremely windy the weekend we stayed and we had trouble sleeping the first night. Juanita and Roy offered their guest room the next two nights making for a much more restful sleep. Juanita made delicious breakfast at whatever time best fit our itenerary, and even helped coordinate some activities. The best hosts I've had the please of staying with!

Juanita and LeRoy are great host. We were treated like long lost friends. Had good breakfasts and lunch. LeRoy had very kindly offered to drop us off and pickup at the restaurant in the evenings. We really can't fault their hospitality. They certainly have gone the extra mile to welcome us.

Love to read, enjoy the days as they come. Every now and then a stray comes along - some have stayed, while other cats and dogs have found new homes, so there is always some assortment of 4 legged friends around.

I have started to add a couple of additional listings from very good friends and I do vouch for each of the listings added. I hope that these unique listings make your trip to Costa Rica simply amazing!

Check my wishlist for a one of a kind Treehouse close to San Jose, a unique Yurt close to the Chirripo up in the mountains in the middle of Costa Rica or a romantic getaway in Tortuguero. All my listings are LBGT friendly.
