Description

The space

A unique blend of historic and modern, this house is full of sunlight. The downstairs has a graceful sense of flow, one room to another. And upstairs are four bedrooms (one with a single bed and trundle and a balcony, one with a daybed and trundle and lofted ceiling, one with a single bed, one with a queen bed and lofted ceiling), bathroom with cast iron tub for retaining water's heat, laundry room, and art room/library/den. The house is our primary home, and as such is it fully stocked with everything you need: From white plates to games to linens to pantry staples.

Outside there is a deck with furniture and a coal-burning grill.

Guest access

The entire house is available. There is a small office in separate unit in the backyard which may be intermittently used during guests' stay.

Interaction with guests

We leave guests with a comprehensive manual for the neighborhood and environs, as well as information about the house, but we are easily accessible and happy to help as well!

The neighborhood

Belmont is amazing. It has its own thriving downtown just 2 blocks away from the house. Three of Charlottesville's most beloved restaurants light up the area--The Local, Mas, and Tavola. In addition, there is a coffeehouse, a BBQ restaurant, and two friendly convenience stores. There are two playgrounds in the neighborhood, and the Rivanna trail is in walking distance from the house. For those that want more options, Charlottesville's historic downtown mall is just a 10 minute walk. Restaurants, shops, music venues, bookstores, an ice skating rink, gelato, a crepe stand, tacos, and a movie theater are all in walking distance. Venturing further out, there is a walking trail to Jefferson's Monticello within 5 minutes drive (or Monticello itself can be reached in 10 minutes drive), as well as an apple orchard with phenomenal views, biking trails along the river, and further afield there is top-notch hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains.

Getting around

The house is located on the bus route, and the bus transit center is within a 10 minute walk on the downtown mall. From that point there is a free trolley which takes visitors to the University of Virginia in just a few minutes. A car is not required to be able to enjoy much of what Charlottesville has to offer.

Other things to note

IMPORTANT: We have two cats who will stay on the premises during your stay. Please make sure that no member of your party is allergic to cats, as we can't sequester them or remove them. You can choose to care for them, or we are happy to do it, but this means we'll have to enter the house once a day.

Also, during UVA graduation, we do have a 3 night minimum. If you choose to not stay for 3 nights we may be able to arrange a modified price structure.

Michelle and her husband were excellent hosts. She was on top of every communication, and very kind for our special requests. The home is in a perfect location, and I highly recommend it for your Charlottesville or UVA excursions that involve family or a group. Lots of room for folks to spread out, but great having everyone under one cozy roof!

Michelle is the best host I've experienced so far. She went above & beyond to accommodate our somewhat unruly group, including giving some of us a ride from the train station & providing helpful tips on the neighborhood. Her house was great & accurately described in the listing. Her house rules were reasonable & clearly written.

There aren't many airbnb homes in Charlottesville large enough to hold our party, so when I booked Michelle's home, I just hoped for the best. The best was what I got: a lovely, airy Victorian (I think? Not super up on my home types), replete with loads of sunlight and nooks for those of us occasionally in need of a quiet moment. Our party felt welcomed from the moment we stepped through the door, and even more so upon finding a bottle of Virginia-brewed cider and a greeting note. Re: the place being in line with its description: 100%. It's a big house, very well-located vis-a-vis downtown Cville and the mall, and there are two cats (apparently. I only ever saw one).

This was such a great house in a wonderful part of town! The house fit our needs perfectly. It's situated in a cute neighborhood with lots of great restaurants nearby. The homeowners are so nice and helpful and Michelle even made us tasty pumpkin granola. I highly recommend staying in this fabulous house!

Michelle and her husband were very welcoming. The house was very homely, and close to downtown...and easy 10 minute walk. A great stay for our large group. Thank you!
