We absolutely loved meeting Gretel, her husband and family. The house is quite lovely and in a perfect setting. Its peaceful and lush with a great pool. The house itself is exactly what we were looking for and very pretty inside and out. The porches are awesome and make for a truly relaxing time away. The amenities in the house were excellent. Gretel is quite an accomplished artist and her artwork is featured throughout the house which is a real treat. The location was perfect in that we could easily access Quepos and Manuel Antonio and was easy to get to. We all had a great time and would definitely consider staying here again.
Gretel's house is an absolute delight! Stayed a couple of days with friends and family and everything was splendid. She called us twice just to make sure we were doing well. The beds were comfortable and rooms spacious. Great fully-stocked kitchen (there was even some supplies left for us, e.g. sugar, coffee, spices, which came in handy!). Awesome pool with lights/jets that is surrounded by jungle. There is even a grill we used one night. Washer/dryer came in very handy as we did many excursions and came back muddy and/or sweaty almost every night :P
The house is not far from the main bus route: one way brings you to Quepos in s can find the house once you know how to describe its location. That being said, its not necessarily walking distance from the center of town; do-able but you would be tired and there is really no point since taxis are only a couple dollars.
The house really was everything you could hope for; we were very pleased.
We stayed for two nights. It was amazing. The house is big, with a big and very well equipped kitchen. The house is very clean and nice. And the pool was awesome. I recommend this place.
Casa Camino Viejo was a wonderful home for my family for our first trip to Costa Rica. We are two adults and three children (ages 6, 3 and 6 months) and Gretel made us very comfortable. She provided a high quality crib (not a pack and play) and a wonderful high chair (that was very clean) which made life with the 6 month old very easy. Our older children loved the pool and spent hours in it, when we were not at the beach or exploring the park. The pool is two stories down from the living area of the house--just as an FYI. The house is very welcoming and the kitchen is extremely well equipped for cooking. I don't recomend Maxi Pali for much food shopping beyond the basics, if you can find a good butcher and fruit shop (or even better a feria...) in town do so. Also, bring your own beach towels. We left a small umbrella and some beach toys in the laundry room for future guests. Lastly--the troop of monkeys that live in the trees around the house are SO cool, as are all the birds and iquanas in the yard. We highly recomend Casa Camino Viejo.
My children and I spent a week at Casa Camino Viejo. We had an awesome time! The home is beautiful. I spent every morning on the veranda having coffee and watching the wildlife (macaws, lizards ect) We ate most of our meals at home and the kitchen is very well stocked. The pool area is great (the pictures do not do it justice).
We did not rent a car so location was important. The house is only one block from the main road to Queopas and Manuel Antonio. We caught the bus and would be at the beach in less than 10 minutes. Clean, safe neighborhood.
We enjoyed our stay, and are planning a return trip. We will definitely stay at Casa Camino Viejo again!
My family and I had a great experience at Casa Camino Viejo. We were met by Jonathan, the property manager who gave us keys and showed us around. He was easy to contact, spoke great English, was helpful with restaurant suggestions and booked a few tours for us.
The house was very nice and comfortable. Great kitchen, small but comfortable living area with lots of movies on DVD. The saltwater pool is very nice! The showers were hot once you figured out how the handle worked. We loved the outdoor porch with lots of seating space and the hammocks downstairs where a great addition.
The house is in a good location about 6 or 7 minute drive from both Quepos and Manuel Antonio. We had a car which was nice, though you could walk to a few restaurants from the house. You could also walk to the main road where the buses pick up.
We did get to meet Gretel and her husband one day when they were in town to do some work on the house. They are very nice and offered some great restaurant suggestions for us.
Both Gretel and Jonathan where very quick to respond to phone calls and emails, which is greatly appreciated. There was a maintainence guy that came by several times to clean the pool and take care of stuff around the property. The property is fenced, gated and all windows and doors have bars..so we felt safe, though it didn't seem like a dangerous area anyway.
We had a visit from about 20 or 30 squirrel monkeys one evening in the trees outside..cute!!
All in all it was a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Just returned from a week stay in Quepos/Manuel Antonio. Myself and two fishing buddies stayed in Casa Camino Viejo. Our only regret is that we could not stay for another week. This house was a great find on Airbnb. It's prefect for a family or a small group of fishermen.
The house is exactly as described and is equipped with everything you could need other than your clothes. We could not have picked a more perfect location, with the house located between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. This is near many restaurants, bars and the national park. The house is very safe, with a fully fenced-in yard and an electric gate. Gretel, the owner, was a great host and she went well out of her way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. I'd stay in this home again in a heartbeat. This rental is a true value. Thanks a bunch Gretel. Alan West
