Katherine was fantastic! She had everything completely prepared and clean when we arrived, and had even provided bananas for us in case we needed a snack. She was very helpful when we had questions and provided great recommendations for places to eat.
The room is very much as described and was quite comfortable. The condo is close enough to the subway and it was a quick subway ride into Manhattan. We didn't spend much time there except to sleep, but when we were there it was quiet and everything was great.
The experience was easy, straightforward and relaxing!
Our host met us at the door and helped us upstairs where we were greeted by the smell of freshly baked cake--yummers--and shown the room,bathroom,etc...it was a few blocks from the train and up the block from a deli/grocery which made it convenient to make our own breakfast in the shared kitchen. Katherine was available for questions and help and was a most gracious host.
We had a lovely time at Katherine's home. The room was just as described and pictured. Even though we arrived very late due to flight delays, Katherine warmly welcomed us, had cake waiting, and shared a few quick tips for our stay.
Located a short walk from the subway, we were able to easily explore the city all day and return for a peaceful night's rest.
When contacted by my colleagues who wanted to send a surprise, Katherine gladly helped them out.
Thank you for a lovely stay!
Everything was nearly perfect. Katherine was like our long-lost sister-- gracious, charming, helpful, generous, witty, and all sorts of other superlatives. Her place is roomy and charming and has all the comforts of home. My only complaint is that the toaster only toasts 3/4ths of the bread! The apartment is in a pretty nice part of Brooklyn, about a 10 minute walk from the A train subway. Plenty of markets and restaurants around. Except for the weather----brrrrrr- a perfect stay in NY.
Katherine is a really great host!
First she was from the beginning very friendly and helpfull! When we arrived she baked us a great chocolate cake and gave us tips for restaurants nearby.
We enjoyed our stay at her apartment, because everything was clean, tidy and it looks exactly like the pictures. So if you want a nice and great place in Brooklyn, you should go to Katherine! Thanks again for everything, it was really amazing!
We stayed with Katherine for 2 weeks in Jan/Feb and thoroughly enjoyed it. Despite studying for a very important certification exam, she was welcoming and helpful. Katherine has a private bedroom and bathroom downstairs, and when she's home she mostly kept to herself there. It's almost like we had the apartment to ourselves. The now famous chocolate cake was there when she greeted us (which we ate on for a whole week), and she made a delicious batch of puttanesca pasta that we enjoyed for dinner together (and a couple days thereafter). Katherine preps coffee the night before, and the first person in the morning just needs to finish it. She was a wealth of advice for the neighborhood and NYC in general. We were in NYC for the big winter storm, so Katherine rented some movies from the library around the corner to keep us entertained.
The place itself is very nice and spacious. It's well appointed in the kitchen, living room and bedroom. Very warm and bright with a big skylight over the kitchen. The bathroom has a small shower with lots of hot water and pressure (great to warm up after cold NYC winters). Katherine had recently purchased a real bed to replace the air mattress that guests were using previously, so that was a big plus.
The Bed-Stuy neighborhood is great. The whole street is 2-3 story brownstones. There are 2 small bodegas on the corner, and a great hip Italian place with the best service we received in NYC. A larger grocery store is about 10-15 blocks away, and easy to get to on the B26 bus that stops 2 blocks from the apartment. The apartment is 6 blocks from the A & C trains that take you into Manhattan and up the West side. It's also a convenient way to/from JFK airport by public transport. We always felt safe walking around.
I love traveling and hosting travelers. As a long-time New Yorker, I have hosted many friends from around the world and am happy to extend my home to the AirBnB universe. The rest of my spare time is devoted to cooking and eating out, music, skiing and reading about the obscure travel adventures of others.
