We stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon. The cottage is quite separate from the main house, so we had all the privacy we needed. John was responsive to email and gave us good recommendations for places to visit. Otherwise, we did not encounter any problems with the house, and we enjoyed our stay. We would stay here again if in the area.
The Red Rooster was just what we were looking for and more. Spacious, clean, private and close to all the wonderful things Alexander Valley has to offer. John was very easy to communicate with and kind enough to leave fresh eggs and great beer in the fridge. Would definitely stay here again.
This is an amazing place to stay for a trip to Sonoma. The location really can't be beat--it's about halfway between Calistoga and Healdsburg, such a beautiful drive. There are wineries everywhere you turn. It's also a short ride to Russian River valley and Armstrong Park (Redwoods). We loved the house. It's much bigger than the pictures convey. There's also a car park to park your car. The property is gorgeous. You really can't beat this place as a place to stay. The eggs and brews were a plus! :) we hope to be back.
I stayed at John's place for three nights in late March 2015. John's place is in the attractive Alexander Valley surrounding by open space vineyards and many interesting wineries. A good value at $170 or less a night and adequate for a weekend, there were some minor misses that detracted from the experience being a more memorable stay. The first letdown happens as one arrives. At the top of the driveway hill is a commanding view of the surrounding vineyards where the main house is oriented to best capture the vista and ample sunlight. Alas, your quarters are a ways yonder past the chicken shack and in the shaded and screened area where the tractor is kept. To get that view again, you'll need to look out the smallish bedroom window from the second floor. The kitchen as a place to cook is challenging for more anything more than simple meals. If you go into your stay with the idea of unplugging you'll be more apt to enjoy it. We had no wifi the entire stay and there was a fair amount of effort and false hope expended in pursuing having service restored. John's family makes excellent craft beer and fresh eggs, which are almost, but not quite enough to overcome this listing's shortcomings.
Quite a leap from the last direct communication from Jeremy which was " Thanks we enjoyed it". At anytime Jeremy could have said this is not what we wanted and we would have refunded the balance of his money so he could have searched for more acceptable lodging. And it is the country where there is no Comcast on demand. The one man show ISP was out of town and fixed the wifi as soon as he got back. Also, the property is natural landscape not vineyard. The vineyard, which one looks out on from standard sized windows belongs to the neighbors. The company I work for, not my family makes craft ales. At my own expense I stock some ales as a perk for the guests.
I am sorry Jeremy didn't enjoy his stay. I want every guest to have a good experience.
Easy check-in. Very easy, timely (website hidden) in the fridge. Great place, Very quiet and pleasant.
Terrific little place in a peaceful setting. If you want privacy away from town this is the place to stay. About 15 minutes to Healdsburg for food etc... Wineries all around.
We couldn't have asked for a better spot. Central for what we wanted to do. The cottage was perfect in every way. Gorgeous scenery, super comfy bed, and farm fresh eggs and beer! We would definitely stay again on our next trip to the area.
