Interaction with Guests
The Host: Been Living in Costa Rica for 13 years, my experience and knowledge of the lifestyle, cultures and adventures is available to help others discover the Magic of La Fortuna and other parts of this special country.
La Fortuna is an enjoyable experience for all , with flowing rivers, natural hot springs, waterfalls, the 33 mile fresh water Lake Arenal, Cerro Chatto Crater Lake , butterfly gardens and a large variety of amenities. The many vacationers who find the Pure Vida return home feeling satisfied and relaxed.
Visitors can get to Fortuna by Bus, Car or Plane. The road from both of Costa Rica’s airports are paved, well marked and scenic. The plane is a 12 passenger that flies low allowing you to see Costa Rica’s beautiful landscapes; sit back and enjoy the many waterfalls, rivers and volcanoes.
The Arenal Volcano has its own National Park (Parque National Vulcan Arenal)
This almost 30,000 acre national park allows visitors to get an even better understanding of the Arenal Volcano and a much closer look. The Flora and fauna found it this primary rain forest is some of the newest on earth.
There are plenty of nature hikes in the area; the one I highly recommend is the climb to Cerro Chatto Lake. Vulcan Chatto is a dormant volcano; its crater is filled from hundreds of year of rain fall. It is an intense uphill hike to over 3,500 feet but I assure you it is worth every step of the way. Park hours are from 8am to 5pm
The La Fortuna Waterfall is another one of Mother Nature’s tours. Take a short 4klm hike from La Fortuna and you will be standing up top of the 230 foot waterfall. Gaze upon the power of water as it rolls of and dumps into the fresh rejuvenating pools bellow. Hike down the base to the pools to recharge, relax and take some photos. Waterfalls are open from 8-5pm
La Fortuna and all the amenities anyone could need is a 15 minute walk or 2 minute cab ride from the cabins.

No Smoking in Cabins no noise past 10
It was grat to meet Jonathan and la cabina was pretty and confortable. We also really enjoyed the activities he suggested us: the zip line and the trekking,we just didn't like the Baldi (thermal place),much to swim free l'u in the hot water of the river ;-)
Anyway,thanks for your advices! F&F
Jonathan's cabin is very nice, and it has everything you need. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We had a very good stay.He was very easy to work with, and you can normally get a good deal with him on tours.
The place was great! Jonathan was very helpful recomending things to do in the area. The cabin was very clean and nice, a lot of birds in the area. We walked to the waterfall which was not that far away. I would highly recommend this place!
First impressions of the cabin and the town didn't bowl me over, but I found they grew on me over the few nights we were there. Lying in bed listening to the river rushing below and the frogs and insects was awesome (though earplugs were necessary once the dawn chorus started). The area is very agricultural with only pockets of rainforest but we enjoyed seeing animals and birds at the hanging bridges, despite the rain. Jonathan and his wife were really helpful and organised a trip there for us and helped us out as we have very little Spanish. Jonathan is a good salesman but a little overwhelming for us Brits! The breakfast was good and we loved watching the birds, and the host family were lovely (the son has pretty good English). The walk into town takes 30 minutes and it was fine in the daytime but we got taxis after dark. There's not really anywhere nearby to eat out so you do need to go into town unless you are cooking for yourself. Overall it was a nice rural location, the cabins could do with a refurb and only some of them have outside space to sit.
Thanks for the review, happy you guys enjoyed your stay.
Us Canadians speak kind a fast, I am very passionate about Costa Rica and was eager to share my experiences to help you during your stay. I am not selling anything, rather informing visitors so they can make and educated decisions on the many available options. I am here as your host to make your stay comfortable, thanks for allowing me to help.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Cabinas la Catarata. It backed onto nice lush grounds, could hear the river flowing and the added touch of the balcony with hammock was great!
The breakfast was so delicious, we were so upset the second day that we had to rush out and missed it.
Jon and the rest of the group were all very nice and attended to any of our needs. The fridge wasn't on when we got there and I needed ice for my ankle...Jon was very responsive and had it looked at right away.
Good location, though it is 3km or so from the town, a 5 dollar taxi ride one way.
Thanks Jon to you and the rest for hosting us.
Unfortunately we couldn't stay at Jonathan's place, because of some planning issues, but we are sure it is a wonderful place to stay.
Beautiful location. Great price. Good breakfast. Honest, good people running the place. The cabins are a little run down, but if you need anything fixed, just ask, they will be right on it.
