Interaction with Guests
The Host: Been Living in Costa Rica for 13 years, my experience and knowledge of the lifestyle, cultures and adventures is available to help others discover the Magic of La Fortuna and other parts of this special country.
La Fortuna is an enjoyable experience for all , with flowing rivers, natural hot springs, waterfalls, the 33 mile fresh water Lake Arenal, Cerro Chatto Crater Lake , butterfly gardens and a large variety of amenities. The many vacationers who find the Pure Vida return home feeling satisfied and relaxed.
Visitors can get to Fortuna by Bus, Car or Plane. The road from both of Costa Rica’s airports are paved, well marked and scenic. The plane is a 12 passenger that flies low allowing you to see Costa Rica’s beautiful landscapes; sit back and enjoy the many waterfalls, rivers and volcanoes.
The Arenal Volcano has its own National Park (Parque National Vulcan Arenal)
This almost 30,000 acre national park allows visitors to get an even better understanding of the Arenal Volcano and a much closer look. The Flora and fauna found it this primary rain forest is some of the newest on earth.
There are plenty of nature hikes in the area; the one I highly recommend is the climb to Cerro Chatto Lake. Vulcan Chatto is a dormant volcano; its crater is filled from hundreds of year of rain fall. It is an intense uphill hike to over 3,500 feet but I assure you it is worth every step of the way. Park hours are from 8am to 5pm
The La Fortuna Waterfall is another one of Mother Nature’s tours. Take a short 4klm hike from La Fortuna and you will be standing up top of the 230 foot waterfall. Gaze upon the power of water as it rolls of and dumps into the fresh rejuvenating pools bellow. Hike down the base to the pools to recharge, relax and take some photos. Waterfalls are open from 8-5pm
La Fortuna and all the amenities anyone could need is a 15 minute walk or 2 minute cab ride from the cabins.

Wonderful accommodations and
Great location, rustic and nice about a 5 minute drive out of town. Relax on your deck listening to the birds and stream flowing just down from the cabins. Owner Felix feeds local birds on his deck which makes for a wonder treat while eating your breakfast. Lots of different birds to see. Not far from the la fortuna water falls. One mistake in the directions it is not 70km from the German bakery if
You are coming from Liberia. We ended up 30km past town. Do a little more research than us on directions ha
This is a great value! Felix and his family do a great job running the place, they are warm and welcoming and make a great breakfast! Eating breakfast alone is an experience, it is in a garden view area with tons of different birds singing while you eat ;o) There is a vendor down the street as well who crafts alot of the artwork in his shop--he also has some interestng animals in by his workshop. Jonathan is easy to work with as well.
We stayed at the Cabinas for 3 nights and really enjoyed our time. The location is great- you're really close to La Fortuna waterfall and close to town as well. The property is beautiful with lots of vegetation. There are also a lot of pretty birds that hang out on the property. Felix, the owner, feeds them everyday. We got to feed a hummingbird, which was really cool! Felix is very nice and helpful. He made us breakfast everyday, changed a lightbulb when it went out, and even did a load of laundry for us. The Cabinas are very cute but a bit rustic. The only negative is that we couldn't get hot water for the shower but it's hot in Costa Rica so lukewarm was just fine for us. I would recommend staying here!!
Thanks for the review, I will be sure to let Felix know about the hot water. The hot water system is electric, a coil heats the water as it passes through the shower head, if the water pressure is set to high it does not allow the coil time to heat the water sufficiently.
My brief interaction with Jonathan when I first arrived to La Fortuna was helpful. If it weren't for his verbal directions, we wouldn't have been able to find the cabin because it's not on GPS. He was also helpful in explaining why we had to stay in a different cabin because there was an overbooking. The man who is actually on sight and oversees the cabins does not speak English, so we were glad that Jonathan explained to us what had happened. Because of the overbooking, we had to stay in a cabin that seems to not be normally rented out. It was not sufficiently cleaned, had poor bedding, luke warm water and very little natural sun light. We were disappointed with our stay. We got a glimpse of the other cabins which certainly seemed nicer.
These cabinas have a lot of positive aspects-- 1) close to town, ~25min walk, but far enough to have the natural beauty of flowers and birds, 2) clean, individual units with all the basic ammenities, 3) good breakfast that fills you up for all the activities that La Fortuna area provides, 4) walking distance to La Fortuna waterfall, ~45min up steep hill, 5) Jonathan was very helpful booking excursions -- we did an all day hike, Baldi hot springs, and rafting tour.
We had a minor communication problem booking the rafting tour, but everything worked out. Also, another issue with noisy neighbors, talked to Felix and Gabriel the next day about it and they were very apologetic and said if it happens again to let them know immediately.
Overall, I'd highly recommend a stay here as a base camp for adventures in the Arenal area.
We had a great time in La Fortuna, in large part thanks to Jonathan's great advice with various activities in the region. The Cabinas was a lovely place to stay - Felix and family were very kind, helpful, and breakfast was delicious! It is a few minutes out of town driving but makes for a much nicer atmosphere. Taxis are abundant and we walked it (~20 min) several times without issue. Would certainly recommend!
