Apartment - Private room · Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY 10451, United States

The Space

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION AND PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME QUESTIONS THAT ARE COVERED IN THIS DESCRIPTION AS I GET UP TO 20 REQUESTS A DAY.

There is no need to ask if the place is available. If you indicated the correct dates and my listing came up, then it's available! ALSO, PLEASE DON'T ASK THE PRICE. IT IS EXACTLY WHAT COMES UP WHEN YOU ENTER YOUR DESIRED DATES AND THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE. Thank you in advance ;)

Since I am currently travelling, there may be a chance that there will be another guest in the bedroom but you will be in the huge, cozy, zen-like living room.

I am ONLY open to sublet / share my home-sanctuary to individuals that are reliable, respectful (of my home, belongings, neighbors, and noise level) clean, and trustworthy. It's not a place for you to host parties, but simply to have a New York sweet home away from home while I am out of town.

First off, I just want to let you know that I travel all over the world. I know how important it is to feel as if you have a real "home" away from home. So I will make every attempt to make sure you're safe, comfortable and have an amazing New York experience!

This is a really cute fully furnished 1 bedroom apartment right by Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. You can literally hear the crowd scream when someone hits a home run! Freshly painted throughout. Truly cozy and zen-like warm vibe inside. This is a great, safe, quiet, family oriented neighborhood! There’s a good energy around here with the new Yankee Stadium, restaurants, stores etc. It's only 2 stops away from Manhattan for quick commutes, East AND West side Express Trains D & 4 @ 161ST Street station which basically means that you'll be downtown in no time! The neighborhood is conveniently located and has everything you need. Union Square (Downtown East side) 17 minutes by train--34th Street Herald Square (Midtown West side where Macy's is and major shopping area) 15 minutes by train, East Village 20 minutes (Very trendy eclectic neighborhood, great shopping but mostly a great neighborhood with an extremely large number of various types of restaurants)!!

***PLEASE BE SURE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE "GUIDEBOOK" link located on the upper right hand corner to get an idea of how close the subway is, all the many stores, restaurants, parks, banks and all the amenities and conveniences this location has to offer.***

NEIGHBORHOOD INFORMATION:
Many people that aren't familiar with this neighborhood have false and a completely inaccurate perception of this neighborhood. There is a stigma from the 80's that is still attached to the neighborhood as being unsafe, violent etc. which is not the case whatsoever. Through out the years since then, the area and neighborhood went through drastic changes. The City of New York put a lot of energy and money into re-gentrifying the neighborhood by building a huge new shopping mall, opening new restaurants like Hard Rock Cafe, building new parks, and making the area more visually appealing. This is also where Hip-Hop was first born which makes it even more historical!

Because of this, as well as the fact that it is 2 stops away from Manhattan, this has become one of the most popular neighborhoods in the Bronx. The apartment is situated 3 blocks away from the world famous Yankee Stadium where tourist and locals visit on a regular basis. This neighborhood is completely safe. I am a short, petite Asian woman who has been living here since 2006. I have came home many nights alone at night 3am and I've always been safe. All of my guests have felt the same way too as stated in their reviews.

The train station is just 3 blocks away—5 Minute walk! You have your choice of the D Train (Express Train for the West Side) or 4 Train (Express Train for the East Side)Station: 161st Street/Yankee Stadium--15 minutes to Midtown Manhattan—17 minutes to Downtown--2 stops from Manhattan. Located a few blocks from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Young, hip, conveniently located neighborhood. This is an extremely safe, quiet, family-oriented neighborhood with everything at your fingertips: Hard Rock Café, Spanish Restaurants, Clothing stores, 99cent stores, Target, Best Buy, Marshalls, BJ’s Discount Grocery, Staples, McDonalds, Burger King, Dunkin' Donuts, 2 Diners, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Subway, Saborros Pizza Chinese Restaurants numerous supermarkets and bodegas, post office, Chase Bank, Wells Fargo, Radio Shack, CVS, a movie theatre and the Bronx Museum. Directly across the street is a Joyce Kilmer Park—Great neighborhood atmosphere with a playground that kids are always playing in, people jogging, kids playing baseball and soccer, people walking their dogs, plenty of benches where a lot of people watch or just chill during the warm seasons of the year—great New York vibe. If you have a car, there is plenty of free street parking. None of my guests has ever had a problem finding a parking space around the building.

The Subway in NY is 24 hours a day. PRICES FOR SUBWAY/BUS PASS:
7-Day Unlimited Pass $30
30-Day Unlimited Pass $104
Or you can buy a Metro Card with either $5, $10, $20 and you can keep refilling it. You can pay by credit/debit card or cash. The machines will only give $6 in change.

For visitors arriving by airplane, the apartment is a 15 minute cab ride from LaGuardia Airport. From JFK International Airport is a 20 minute cab ride. ONLY TAKE YELLOW CABS FROM THE AIRPORT and not from anyone soliciting you for a private cab they will rip you off! Just look for the Taxi stand outside of Arriving flights there will usually be a que you can spot if not, just ask one of the airport workers to point out where the cab stand is. From LaGauardia the ride should be approximately $30 and from JFK should be approximately $45 (both are including the toll you have to pay to cross the Tri-Borough Bridge but not including a tip if you choose.)

A little about me: I’m extremely down to earth and easy going. I stay out of people’s business; but social; I respect people’s privacy and belongings. I prefer to go through life smiling and being happy. I travel often myself so I know how important it is to have peace of mind when travelling to be in a safe, clean and comfortable space to call your own when you’re away from home! Staying at my place is an extremely inexpensive way to visit NY and be 3 stops away from Manhattan!!

Contact me with any questions. I’ll be happy to answer them all! I'm very well-versed in helping visitors make the most of their trip so I can refer bars, restaurants, clubs, great, free going's on in NYC no matter what walk of life you come from! Thanks for stopping by.

Looking forward to making your stay enjoyable.

  • My brother and Me were staying at Lori´s for about 9 days and was really nice and confortable tsaying. We felt like home, very good price and attention from Lori´s and her cleaning lady Cinthia. The apartment was very close to Yankee stadium and also form train, metro and bus station to go to any part of the city. Also you can get all what you need near by (bank, groceries store, best buy, super markets...) Lori allways kept me informed about all the information what we needded about arriving, staying and leaving the apartment. She was allways able to answer my doubts and questions. You can get home very late at nigth and feel safety.also I had a very funny and nice experience wiht my other apartment guests, we shared stuff about our cultures... I couldnt meet Lori in person, but she made me feel her good intentions for making us feel very warm and good. Do not hesitate wiht this place!!!

  • First of all I want'to thank Lori because I had to arrive a few days later due to travel complications and she was very understanding. She also let me stay 1h past check out time because I was late coming back from the Empire State. She always answered my messages and was very polite.
The apartment is very clean and spacious, we never cooked but the kitchen was fully equipped to do so if we had wanted to. It was also very warm which was great because outside was freezing all the time!
The bed was perfect, it had clean sheets and was very comfortable.
The apartment itself is 3 blocks from Yankees Stadium and the D line, which takes you pretty much everywhere in 30 min and if you take it from downtown you can take the express line and be home in 15m so location was good. There's also a few Delis to have breakfast and a small supermarket so location is really good.
My only observation would be that the shower was hard to work with, it was either scalding hot or very cold, It might be because its winter, I've no idea.

We had a great time with the spanish couple also staying with us in the other room and we'll definitely come back here when we travel to NYC again!

  • Lori was nice, very reactive and available for us.
Don't be afraid to be in the Bronx because we've never had any problem ! Even for our car, parked in the street.

The thing is, this apartment was very dirty. You pay (so WE pay) a cleaning lady but all the apartment is so dirty and i can't understand how is possible ! You can't imagine how were the bathrooms... And the shower never stays at the same temperature : too hot, then freezing.
Also, we didn't have enough toilet paper...

The bed was comfortable and we were in the living room, which was a nice room very quietly and private.

    Response from Lori:

Hi Cla, sorry you felt the apartment was dirty? Interesting since all of my other guests feel completely differently. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoyed your stay. Happy travels!

  • Lori was welcoming, helpful, and flexible during our trip. And her place was conveniently located (close to Yankee Stadium), clean and cozy--a great place to stay when visiting NYC!

  • Very caring and perfectly organized host. Beatiful and very tastefully set up apartment in a neighbourhood which is more than recommendable for a New York Trip.

For all who are about to stay at Loris:

Visit Crown Diner (100m away from the subway station) for a perfect and cheap breakfast!!!!

  • My brother and I stayed in the living room for a week and overall it was fine. The location was great, such a quick walk to the subway station and enough food around to find something late night and safe to walk as well. There were a few little things that I'd caution but understand it could be a one time fluke and it is an old building. Let's say these are tips: There was/is a hot water leak over the toilet, so be careful using the bathroom! It's also a public toilet, as in the flush handle is like the ones in public restrooms, and flushing is tricky, but you get the hang of it. The shower water is very temperamental, it will fluctuate hot and cold throughout your shower, I say turn the knobs more hot and less cold for winter stays. And at least while we were there, the heater stopped working so there was no heat or hot water for a day and a half. None of this was due to Lori and she responded within hours- as she was on a trip- to let us know she contacted the manager and found out the boiler malfunctioned. There is no hot water at the kitchen sink either, please don't turn it on it will just shoot out air pressure, knocked my bowl out of my hand. Also, bring your own pillows if you have neck/back problems. I was peeved though that we had to buy our own toilet paper because the maid forgot to leave more out when she came to prepare the place for two new people- 1/2 a roll for 4 people for 5 days, really?- and rather than having the maid come back to unlock and restock, we were told to go get some which was not only for us but our two new mates. There was also an instance when someone came in with a child (?) or another person in the morning unannounced, that was a bit unsettling. But other than those inconveniences, the place was fine.

    Response from Lori:

Sorry about the leak, they repaired it just a month ago and apparently from the rain and snow, it leaked again. Unfortunately, the building is a pre-war building which means the plumbing can be temperamental. In the cold winters, sometimes the boiler freezes which cause the hot water to be affected which is what happened. The "public toilet?"are standard in older buildings such as mine. And sorry about the toilet paper, my cleaning lady forgot to leave additional out. As far as the baby? Shame on the other guests, as clearly stated in my rules of my apartment, there is not suppose to be other guests other than who the reservation is paid for. If you would have told me, I would have definitely spoken to the other guests which infuriates me. I apologize, obviously that was beyond my control. Thanks again Sandy.

  • This place was great!

Even though the apartment is in Bronx you shouldn't be afraid of it. Area was very peaceful and we didn't feel ourselves threatened anytime in our visit. Neighbors are friendly and so are the others in the area.

Location is just few minute walk from the subway and in NYC the subway system is really good! You can get from place to place in no time.

The apartment itself is big and cozy as Lori says. You won't get cold in there because heating system works :) Bed is comfortable and wide and it's pleasant to sleep.

Lori is wonderful host and keeps sure that everything is okay.

All I can do is just recommend this place! Thank You!
