The historic Grand Concourse-Yankee Stadium area is the most diverse and colorful neighborhoods in New York! It’s vibrant, family oriented, safe and filled with very kind people. It's a multi-cultural vibe will allow you to experience an authentic New York experience as a local as many happy past guests explain in my reviews. All this while being just steps to Manhattan!!

The space

I understand how important to feel as if you have a clean, safe and comfortable "home" away from home. I'm also an very experienced host of 8 years hosting over 500+ guests with 350+ positive reviews from happy guests. Something I'm proud of because I take my guest's holiday very seriously. I know exactly how to make you feel welcome and right at home and ensure that you have an amazing New York experience!

My home is located right by the famous Yankee Stadium, you can even hear the crowd roar with the windows open! **It's a 5 minute walk to the subway!** There's a truly cozy and zen-like warm vibe inside. The neighborhood is safe, colorful and family oriented with great energy. Everything you need is within a 5 minute walk (see map below) including the subway, restaurants, stores, banks etc. It's conveniently located only 2 stops away from Manhattan! There's two "Express" subway lines located at my station which is 161st Street: D Train (Orange line) and the 4 Train (Green line). Both trains are *Express* trains which skip multiple stops allowing you to get to Downtown Manhattan fast!

Examples of travel time to:
-Harlem/Apollo Theatre: 5 minutes
-Columbus Circle/Trump Towers/Central Park-59th St. Entrance (West Side): 15 Minutes
-Central Park 72nd St. John Lennon-Strawberry Fields entrance: 15 Minutes
-Times Square: 20 Minutes
-Empire State Building-34th Street-Herald Square-Macy's (Major Shopping Area): 20 Minutes
-Grand Central Terminal: 20 Minutes
-Ground Zero: 25 Minutes

People who aren't familiar with New York and furthermore the Bronx are quick to think they know how it is here which is ignorant. It's completely safe here. Don't take my word for it, read all my guests reviews! The perception of the 1980's is long gone and it's a completely different day and age. When the weather is nice, you'll see kids in the playground, people jogging, playing baseball and soccer, people having a picnic or birthday parties, people walking their dogs, an ice cream man selling ice cream (helados), plenty of benches to people watch or just chill during the warm seasons of the year—a great New York vibe. The home of the world famous New York Yankee's and their baseball stadium is located here and this area is also known the official birth place of Hip-Hop. During baseball season, there's plenty of baseball games at Yankee Stadium so the neighborhood has an extra special energy and excitement. If your here during the season, I strongly suggest going to a game. You can get tickets as cheap as $7 for one person. Since then, the City of New York has invested heavily and has transformed this neighborhood into a safe and wonderful neighborhood by building the Bronx Terminal Market shopping mall 10 minutes away from my home, opening new restaurants like Hard Rock Cafe, preserving new parks like the one across the street from my building, and making the local community safe and a great place to live.

Within a 5 minute walk: Starbucks, Chipotle Mexican restaurant, laundromats, McDonalds, 99cent stores, an awesome diner that's open 24-Hours a day right by the subway called Crown Diner (a favorite of my guests), Target, Best Buy, Marshall's, CVS and Walgreens drug store, Hard Rock Café, beauty stores, Latin Restaurants, clothing stores, Staples, Popeye's Chicken, Dunkin' Donuts, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Subway, Saborros Pizza Chinese Restaurants numerous supermarkets and bodegas, post office, Chase Bank, Wells Fargo, a movie theatre and the Bronx Museum. Directly across the street is a Joyce Kilmer Park providing a nice atmosphere no matter what the season of year.

If you have a car, there is plenty of free street parking--just be sure to read the signs so you don't receive a parking ticket. None of my guests has ever had a problem finding a parking space around the building. You also have the option to pay for parking during your stay. There are plenty of 24 hour garages in my neighborhood to choose from because of the close proximity to Yankee Stadium.

It's a 5 minute walk to the subway AND it's 5 minutes into Manhattan! In New York it's all about location, location, location and the location is superb! My home is cozy, clean and safely located in a security-locked building with an elevator/lift and located on the top floor. For your convenience, you also have a mini refrigerator and microwave in your room. There's great sunlight throughout with a peaceful view of the park across the street, beautiful hardwood floors and 2.75 meter/9"high ceilings which makes it airy and bright. A lightening fast WIFI connection, a large desk/workspace and a full length mirror and a coat rack with hangers. You'll have the huge living room all to yourself. **YOU WILL NOT BE SHARING YOUR ROOM WITH ANYONE** There's a comfortable full-sized bed that sleeps two, a second full sized futon/couch that also sleeps two and single beds if needed and a ceiling to floor opaque privacy curtain. The bathroom/WC is brand new. All bedding is provided including sheets, pillows, blankets etc. An iron and blow dryer is provided. Please bring your own towels and toiletries. I may or may not be traveling during your stay and if so, there may be a chance that there will be other guests in the bedroom. There's also of course a FULLY STOCKED KITCHEN with a mircrowave, blender, French Coffee Press and Express Mochas and spices you're welcome to use.

The Subway in NY is open 24 hours a day. The price for a 7-Day Metrocard (subway pass) is $32 and provides unlimited use of both the subway and buses. Definitely worth the money. It will definitely pay for itself during your many sightseeing adventures or you can add any denomination of credit and pay as you go at $2.75 per ride (more expensive).

LaGuardia Airport: approximately a 25-30 minute taxi ride depending on the time of day, weather and traffic conditions. By public transportation it's a combination of the bus to the subway and takes about an hour which is really easy, convenient and highly recommended.

JFK Airport: approximately 40-45 minute taxi ride depending on the time of day, weather and traffic conditions. By public transportation approximately
2 - 2.5 hours and it's actually quite easy and the CHEAPEST way. About 85% of my guests use this method and I do too when I fly out of JFK.

Newark Airport: the best option is public transportation which takes approximately 2 - 2.5 hours. It's actually quite fast and the cheapest option. I have used this method many times since I always travel internationally out of Newark.

Megabus-Manhattan bus stops: 30 minutes by subway.

34th Street & Port Authority: 30 minutes by subway.

As you can see, I'm a very experienced and caring host and I know how to make sure you're comfortable and get the most out of your New York adventure. Please contact me with any further questions.

Excited to make your holiday to the Big Apple unforgettable!

My stay at Lori’s was PERFECT! I’m thankful I chose to stay at her home. I has such a great stay that I vowed to her that I would give the Full Monty in my review. From the first communication with her, you could tell she was a professional, efficient and caring towards her guests, always around to help with all my questions. She made me feel at ease immediately. She also would check in often to see how we were doing or if we needed anything during our stay-Kudos #1. She lays EVERYTHING out for you before you even arrive so you know exactly what to do, how to do it, what to expect, etc. All you have to do is read her well thought out and organized instructions. If so, everything will go smoothly as with our stay-Kudos #2 The flat is super easy to get to either by taxi or subway and is conveniently located. It’s only a 5 minute walk to the subway (take the shortcut through the park!) There’s two Express from her place. Which means they don’t stop at every station/they skip many stations at a time getting you where you need to go quick! Kudos #3 Check in process-getting the keys was a breeze—easy, fast and convenient. She explains everything with pictures that you receive ahead of time so if you know how to look at pretty colorful pictures—you’ll be fine. Kudos #4 When we got to her home—as soon as you step inside it feels like a home, serously. There’s color everywhere, beautiful framed photos I’m assuming she took of some of her travels on the walls, some cool graffiti, souvenirs from all over the world and there’s such a comfortable, warm vibe!! It was great coming home from a long day and night of sightseeing and exploring then coming home to such a peaceful relaxing home. Kudos #5 Most importantly, her home is clean, clean, and I mean clean! We really appreciated it—from our room to the bathroom to the kitchen, etc. Everything is organized, tidy and no clutter-Kudos #6 Our room was big and it was completely private—no complaints here! There was more than enough room for us including a desk with a beautiful peaceful view of the park across the street, we had a full length mirror where it helped us ladies get dressed and put on our makeup as well as plenty of room for our luggage and also a coat rack with hangers that was useful for to hang jackets or towels. The Wifi was super fast always and the beds were all super comfy with comfy pillows too. We all slept like babies! We also have a refrigerator in our room and a microwave which was really convenient too in addition to the full kitchen that had everything you need to cook full meals: plates, cups, pots and pans, coffee makers, utensils and free spices to use. There’s plenty of space to put your food too...

Lori's place is close by the metro and for those of you worried about safety--we never felt a tad bit unsafe in our three days there (we usually get back around 10 pm). The room and bathroom was clean, and Lori has a lot of decorations that made everything a lot livelier. The neighborhood may be a little bit noisy at night, but with the windows closed you'll hardly notice. With the price she's offering, Lori's place is a great choice for students and families on a budget! Though it is not extremely close by Manhattan, you can get to all the places you want to go fairly easy by metro or bus--we bought the 7 day metro card for our 3 days there and found it to be much worth!

The decor was warm, hip and inviting, having a kitchen available was a great plus and the neighbourhood and residents of the area were very friendly and welcoming to out of towners. Definitely changed our view of what to expect in the Bronx. :)

This is aokay place to stay. At first it was a bit strange for us that before we came we got send all kind of very specific rules with all possible penalty's which sounded almost unfriendly be we think it is just the way she is organised. Bacause Lori was on a vacation as we came we can only guess. The place is shared with others so you have to be okay with that to. We had to share the bathroom and kitchen with a total of nine persons so it was a bit crowded. We missed in our room a table to have breafast or dinner but perhaps thats typical European? The room where we stayed was richly and nice decorated. It was seperated by a a curtain which gives not a lot of privacy but you get used to that. The area is very "alive" with a lot of very loud hip-hop and more Spanish orientated music. It suits the neigbourhood of The Bronx but take earplugs with you if you want to sleep early. There is a nice park nearby as well as supermarkets, laundry washing etc. The Yankee Stadium is realy nearby so you should see a game! There are lots of subways to get around. We took weekpasses whickh was very convenient. We had a great time in the Bronx. You will have to if you accept how it works down there!

Response from Lori:
I'm sorry if my instructions sound too rigid and by all means I don't intent to come off as a sergeant but from my 6 years of experience, no matter how much information I provide up front for a smooth arrival and enjoyable stay and any and every useful bits of information any guest would ask, guests don't read the information, house rules, etc., which can be problematic at times which is unfortunately no fault of my own but the fault of guests who either didn't read the thorough information I provide or choose to disobey my the few house rules that I have. This is why I have thorough instructions so there's no surprises and complete transparency which in return results in the best possible experience for my guests. Thanks for your feedback John & Monique, be well.

The room is clean, near the subway, quiet neighbor, close to markets, diners, restaurants, McDonalds, everything you need. But the room is hot on summer and if the apartament is full, the second bathroom is missing.

Lori's place was perfect for our family! We traveled with our 4 children, aged 11-17, along with the two of us, and Lori's apartment fit the six of us perfectly! Our space consisted of a futon, a full size bed, and 2 cots, along with a desk, bookshelf, mirror, fans, outlets - all we needed to live comfortably for the week while we were in New York. The bathroom was very clean, & we had zero problems sharing it with the other family staying. Lori also leaves an ample amount of shelf space for all of your bathroom belongings. The kitchen was just what we needed, with refrigerator & freezer space for all of our water bottles, beverages, & fruits from the nearby fruit stand :) The entrance to the apartment also provided an ample amount of space for our family's shoes, as well as the other family's (which consisted of 5 people), and a couple of stools to sit on while putting on or taking off your shoes. Lori truly thought of everything! She has instructions posted in multiple places of the apartment in multiple languages, so we were never in wonder of where anything was or what to do. She also left us with a welcome book indicating the closest neighborhood amenities and places of interest. Traveling by the subway, which is a very short, enjoyable walk through the park, we were able to arrive to our destinations quickly by the D or #4. All of the neighbors we encountered in the courtyard greeted us very kindly and were very pleasant saying "Good Morning" & sometimes making small talk every time we passed them to exit. Lori's instructions to retrieve the key were spot on, and we had zero issues. Lori was not home during our stay, but continued communication regularly to make sure all was well & if we needed anything :) We did drive to NYC, so we quickly realized that parking is sparse, but it is there, and please read the signs carefully, as there are certain days & times that parking is not allowed due to deliveries or street cleaning. If you play by the rules, you get free parking for a whole week! ;) We did drive into Manhatten one of the days, and it was $40 for us to park for 3 hours, so I do highly recommend the MTA passes. We bought the unlimited 7 day for each of us since we were there for a whole week, and that was perfect for us, as we took the subway multiple times a day as well as the buses. The attendants at the subway stations are very helpful in directing you to the right pass for your needs. New Yorkers are very friendly with any questions of need for directions as well ;) Overall, Lori's place is definitely the right place for the right price and we are grateful it is part of our New York City memory :)

Fun loving, God loving, clean, respectful and easy going who travels as much as I can. I love the arts, traveling, a foodie by default and dancing which is like breathing to me. Most importantly I love to make my guests feel at home especialy when they're away from their own as stated in my reviews. Looking forward to making your trip to NYC memorable.
