The neighbourhood is safe & friendly, full of charm.
Roman House is situated in the oldest most historic part of Cork city.
Easy to get around with lots of options including buses, trains, taxi or cycling. I can provide all transport time tables etc....
Richard was lovely and accommodating. Very responsive with communication and a delightful person. The room had a lot of character and was spacious and comfortable. In-suite bathroom was very convenient. Location is less than 10 min from the city centre, and is a nice walk even when it's very cold.
The breakfast was delicious and my partner said it's one of the best breakfasts he's ever had! We were sad that we had to catch an early flight and miss out on breakfast, but Richard left us some breakfast bars and fruit for our journey back home.
We will definitely stay here again when we come back to Cork.
Cracking place altogether, and I must say Richie is a gentleman. There is a sereneness about both himself and the house. The location is excellent - you are only a short walk from the very heart of Cork city, its a beautiful place to be.
You will be welcomed at the door by a host who is both clever and engaging (also a dab hand in the kitchen, who is no stranger to rustling up a fantastic breakfast might I add!).
Would recommend his place for sure, and I look forward to staying here again.
Warm, personal greeting and introduction to room and location. Facilities as described. Tasty and generous breakfast. Great place to stay for visiting Cork city centre and surroundings.
Richard was such a nice and careful host. Giving you advices and giving anything you need to enjoy your stay. He can adapt his schedule for your checking in or out.
The B&B has been very well refurbished and in the same has kept its typical charm. It is also very well located (only 10 min on foot from coach/bus station and city center) and in the same time very quiet. Recommended.
Richard is a lovely host and I have only one word to describe our experience in Roman House during the jazz festival weekend: AWESOME!.
The rooms were big (as shown in the pictures), the breakfast Richard made for us every morning was lovely and the recommendations we got from him beautiful. As we were two couples, we reserved the two rooms, so the experience to feel alone like home is something that I've hardly had in a hotel.
I'll definitely stay at Roman House another time when I visit Cork again.
Our best stop in Ireland. Richard is a great host, very helpful, we really enjoyed meeting him and the breakfast was fantastic! We felt at home, we definitely recommand people to go to richard's house. Thank you very much Richard!
We contacted Richard for directions from the bus station and about our arrival time. We also let him know about our bus being later than planned. He was very quick to respond to all our emails and questions.
When we arrived, we were welcomed and shown to our room. We discussed our possible plans for visiting Kinsale the day of arrival in Cork and for a visit to Cobh the next day. He was very helpful with travel information which helped our decision to skip Kinsale as the bus ride there and back would be taking up so much of that day. We decided to wander around Cork instead, with some good recommendations from Richard for restaurants, pubs, music sessions, and things to see. Richard's place is very accessible to Cork Centre with restaurants, shops, pubs, and the English Market.
Our room was very spacious! The picture of our bedroom is very accurate! The room was quiet and had plenty of natural light. It was very clean, including the en suite bathroom. Also included were an electric tea kettle with coffee and tea available, glasses, cups, and a mini fridge. There was also a cabinet if we wanted a place for snacks.
Our breakfasts were outstanding! Richard provided a full Irish breakfast both mornings, not greasy at all, very fresh, along with juice, coffee/tea, fresh fruit, cereals or porridge, cheese, jellies, etc. The dining room had a lovely ambiance, with a gas fireplace on and nice background music playing, a great way to start your day! Richard was readily available for questions or suggestions. On our last day, we didn't have a train to catch till early afternoon. As Richard did not need the room till Tuesday, he nicely allowed us to use the room till our departure for the train. He even gave us some places to visit in the neighborhood with our limited time that morning.
I would recommend Richard's place for a nice visit to Cork.
