About this listing

"Baurisheen Cottage" is located on the shores of Lough Corrib, near Oughterard, Co. Galway. This is the perfect base for a family holiday or fishing trip. The house sleeps 6 - 8 people and has a stunning garden with views of the lake and mountains.

The space

Baurisheen Cottage is located on the shores of Lough Corrib within walking distance of Oughterard, which is between Galway city and Clifden in the west of Ireland.

Located on the serene Baurisheen Peninsula, this delightful holiday home is surrounded by a substantial tranquil garden with the lake at the front and back of the house. All rooms have beautiful views of Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland, which is world famous for its fresh water trout and salmon and brings fishermen from all over the world to try their luck.

This is an ideal retreat for families with plenty of activities and local attractions to enjoy. If you choose to stay on the property, you can enjoy the tranquility of the beautiful garden and its views, or swim in the lake on warm summer days followed by a barbeque watching the breathtaking sunset over Lough Corrib. A highlight for guests is a day trip on the lake – pack a picnic, hire a boat and take in the spectacular views while you head to Inchagoill Island. Some of our favourite family day trips include Brigit's Garden, a trip to Ashford Castle on the Corrib Queen, or visiting one of Ireland's top beaches which have been awarded the ‘Blue Flag' beaches either further to the west near Roundstone or outside Galway city. A day trip or overnight stay to the Aran Islands is not to be missed.

Baurisheen Cottage is also the perfect base for fishing groups who want to enjoy fresh water fishing on the lake. Mayfly is, of course, one of the highlights of the year. Lough Corrib sits in the heart of Co. Galway providing some of the best wild brown trout and salmon fishing in Ireland and Europe. The Corrib, as it is affectionately known, lies mainly in Co. Galway with beautiful Connemara on its western shoreline, and borders Co. Mayo to the north. Angling boats are available to hire locally as well as experienced local guides.

In Oughterard there is a playground, golf club and equestrian centre for trekking or lessons. The lovely Owenriff River runs through Oughterard, starting in the Connemara Mountains and emptying, at the edge of town, into Lough Corrib. The Connemara Mountains, just west of town, provide some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. The rocky landscape, turf fields, scattered lakes and sheep dotting the mountainsides are sights you will never forget.

Big house with lovely gardens and fabulous location with views of Lough Corrib from front and rear of house. Access to the lake with own jetty. Close to Oughterard (approx 2km) and within walking distance. Good shops, bars restaurants and other amenities in the town. Excellent location for fishing, walking, touring the west or just relaxing.

We had a wonderful stay at Baurisheen Cottage. Lovely views of the lake all around, and nice bright open space. There was plenty of room for our group (5 adults + 3 children) to sleep in and relax around the house. We had to stagger our showers for hot water, but it wasn't a big issue. The kitchen has plenty of equipment and was well-sized for our group to socialize in. Wifi, dishwasher, washing machine & dryer worked very well. This is the countryside, so there are a few bugs around (e.g. midges in the garden) but not a major issue - the bites didn't bother the children. The grocery stores in Oughterard are quite basic, but there is a Tesco not far away and Marks and Spencer Foods in Galway. I would recommend this house for groups - it really is a great setting for a holiday get-together. Thanks Charlotte for hosting us!

We really enjoyed our stay in Lakeside Cottage. It is in a beautiful area and is situated in a great location close to both Galway city and Connemara. The house itself has a lovely old world charm and feels very homely. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of the lake. You can tell it is a much loved family home. I would highly recommend Lakeside Cottage for a family holiday.

Vermietung lief sehr unkompliziert.

Hi I'm Charlotte and I'm from Dublin, Ireland. My parents bought Baurisheen Cottage when I was only 3 years old so I was lucky enough to spend all of my holidays in this beautiful part of Ireland. I have wonderful memories of summer family holidays fishing on Lough Corrib, swimming in Lough Corrib, hiking in the Connemara mountains or pony trekking in the nearby beautiful countryside. We still go there now with my siblings or two little children and we all love the tranquility of this house and the views...come see for yourself!
