You can as well hopp from village to village in the countryside within 20 minutes and discover a bunch of picture perfect villages with either sea or mountain views. An hour journey will get you in Provence and its wine and olive region.

During the summer, prefer train to car for your moving along the coast, if you want to go a bit more inland i'd avise to have a car to avoid wasting time waiting for connections from town to town.
