Bedroom in brand new 4 bedroom two bathroom home with beautiful view of Waimea Canyon on the Island of Kauai. Waimea Canyon is called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific by Mark Twain. Our house sits near beautiful cliffs and you can walk across our property to sit by the Waimea River.
Our house sits on 1 acre and is located less than 3 miles from town, hiking kayaking, ocean beaches.
A beautiful modern kitchen has been designed by local artists. I have a large spice collection and some basic gluten free/dairy free baking essentials on hand. I have separate appliances for gluten free cooking. Kitchen is set up to be shared by people with food sensitivities. Do not bring gluten containing foods in to the kitchen.
Our property has several producing papaya trees and our garden has tomatoes, kale, collards,, parsley, and occasionally other seasonal vegetables are available. Guests may eat the produce during their stay. Additional healthy produce can be purchased at near by farmers markets.
. Large common screened deck area has a hammock, swinging lounge chairs a ping pong and ladder ball. It is a great place to relax and look out over the garden view between the house and the river. The house and property have a lot of space. The rooms are large and the neighboring houses are not to close to our house.
Our beautifully decorated living room with it's vaulted ceilings and spacious layout also has two comfortable couches and access to WIFI .
There are beautiful walks from the property. You can walk to the river (1/4 mile) and to the beach (2 miles)
Most guests who visit the island rent a car. Our house is 1 an 3/4 miles from downtown Waimea. In town there is a bus stop which will get you to any town on the island. Bus fare is $2.
Waimea town has a theater, a historic tour, a technology center, small shops which sell local Hawaiian products and two grocery stores one which includes a fresh fish market and they also sell local beef. The famous Historic Hanapepe Art Night on Friday nights with its live music, artists and fresh food is only ten minutes away.
Many activities are available in the area including a boat tour of the Napali Coast, surfing, snorkeling kayaking, fishing, beach walking, helicopter tours, a downhill bike tour, zip lining, canyon hikes, scuba diving, and horseback riding.
My husband and I work full time so our ability to socialize with our guests depends on what is going on with our work. We are very social and will sometimes invite our guests to play music, board games and pot luck with us. If we are busy with work please respect our need to not be social. If you want your own space and prefer not to socialize we will respect you as well. Let us know your preferences as we want you to enjoy your vacation.
We were only with these guys for one night, but had a great time. The papayas in the garden were the best we had on the island. The house was eclectic and spacious with great common areas, the room was simple and small but fine for us. It is a shared bathroom but it was never an issue. Sharon and Mitch were very nice, and very flexible with us as we booked last minute.
I had such a great stay with Sharon and Mitch in Waimea. Their house is actually in the base of the canyon--a fantastic location for someone wanting to explore Waimea, Kokee, and the westside. The house itself is spacious, airy, quiet, clean, and very comfortable. Sharon and Mitch were very welcoming and I immediately felt at home (they have to be some of the nicest people around!). I would really recommend this property and will myself return if given another opportunity to visit Kauai. Thanks for such a great stay!
On occasion one meets truly amazing people and I firmly put Sharon and Mitch in that category. On arrival we were presented with an amazing array of homegrown fresh fruits. Throughout the stay they made my girlfriend and I feel part of a family. Mitch even taught me a little bit on the ukulele and now I'm addicted.
I want to write more about these guys but thought I should a more rounded review:
- you need a car to get to the house (think this applies to the whole island really)
- don't be fooled into thinking a gluten free kitchen means these guys are great
- poli hale beach is nearby (by car) and the best beach we saw. There are a couple within walking distance too
- Waimea canyon is very close and a great hike or bike adventure
- kitchen is very well stocked with utensils and spices with space for your stuff to store
- house is clean with lots of places to hang out (loved the hammock)
- bedroom had lots of closet and drawers and a clean bathroom
- they have loads of ukuleles which they let us play and get involved in a sing along. Lots of fun!
- there is also a studio downstairs which the other guests said was great value
- being on the southwest side of the island the weather is dry and lots of sun
- would recommend doing the kalalau trail which is ~2hrs drive from the house
we would definitely recommend staying here. Sharon and Mitch are both so wonderful and welcoming and very laid back. They are kind and generous and were really helpful with giving ideas as to what we should do during our stay there.
They are also in close proximity to the waimea canyon which was nice.
As a first time user of Airbnb, I and my friend that I travelled with couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience. If you're looking to stay within the west side of the island and are looking for an affordable and reasonable place to stay, stay with Sharon and Mitch!
We were in the studio which was a private, comfortable, clean and well-equipped space. The fully-equipped kitchen was great. The studio is near the end of the road going up the Waimea canyon. Sharon and Mitch were easy going, great hosts! Will return!
We want to share more about the location for future travelers. This is the very best value in the area if you want:
Easy access to Waimea canyon and hiking trails. Hiking requires walking sticks or poles and mosquito repellent.
Tropical environment with birds, bugs, fruit trees, quiet, peaceful place
Town of Waimea and beautiful views although water from river makes beach right in town black and muddy/dirty water. Salt Pond Park (relatively clear water, lifeguard, nice swimming and camping, snorkeling, outdoor showers) is about 20 minutes away. Most off-roads to the beach, such as Port Allen's glass beach, are bumpy and have pot holes.
Driving to the top of the canyon at the last look out is great--take care on the 'shoulders' which have drop offs (causing flat tires).
Waimea has 2 good grocery stores and a theatre, with a small town, community feel.
We stayed 4 nights at Sharon and Mitchs place. It was a awesome place with really friendly people. We felt at home. Thank you for a great stay and the fresh fruits and salad from your backyard as well as the surf board!
Sharon and Mitch are great hosts and very welcoming. They spent alot of time to give us great recommendations on where to go in the area and made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed our time spent at their home and would be back. Thanks again! :)
This was a great place to stay in a beautiful part of Kauai. The room was quiet (other than tropical bird noises - which were great), the bed was comfortable and Sharon and Mitch were great hosts. Mitch took the time to give us great advice on several amazing hikes (and has some great info for climbing and surfing as well). We would definitely stay there again!
Very nice visit with Sharon and her family. She (and her other guests) were very welcoming and provided good tips on places to visit on the island and hikes to explore. The room is comfortable with direct access to the bathroom. The kitchen is great as well, particularly for us non-grain eaters. Would definitely look to stay here again on my next visit to Waimea.
Great hosts, very fun and informative of the area!
