The Space

Bedroom in brand new 4 bedroom two bathroom home with beautiful view of Waimea Canyon on the Island of Kauai. Waimea Canyon is called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific by Mark Twain. Our house sits near beautiful cliffs and you can walk across our property to sit by the Waimea River.

Our house sits on 1 acre and is located less than 3 miles from town, hiking kayaking, ocean beaches.

A beautiful modern kitchen has been designed by local artists. I have a large spice collection and some basic gluten free/dairy free baking essentials on hand. I have separate appliances for gluten free cooking. Kitchen is set up to be shared by people with food sensitivities. Do not bring gluten containing foods in to the kitchen.

Our property has several producing papaya trees and our garden has tomatoes, kale, collards,, parsley, and occasionally other seasonal vegetables are available. Guests may eat the produce during their stay. Additional healthy produce can be purchased at near by farmers markets.

. Large common screened deck area has a hammock, swinging lounge chairs a ping pong and ladder ball. It is a great place to relax and look out over the garden view between the house and the river. The house and property have a lot of space. The rooms are large and the neighboring houses are not to close to our house.

Our beautifully decorated living room with it's vaulted ceilings and spacious layout also has two comfortable couches and access to WIFI .

There are beautiful walks from the property. You can walk to the river (1/4 mile) and to the beach (2 miles)

Most guests who visit the island rent a car. Our house is 1 an 3/4 miles from downtown Waimea. In town there is a bus stop which will get you to any town on the island. Bus fare is $2.

Waimea town has a theater, a historic tour, a technology center, small shops which sell local Hawaiian products and two grocery stores one which includes a fresh fish market and they also sell local beef. Interaction with Guests

My husband and I work full time so our ability to socialize with our guests depends on what is going on with our work. We are very social and will sometimes invite our guests to play music, board games and pot luck with us. If we are busy with work please respect our need to not be social. If you want your own space and prefer not to socialize we will respect you as well. Let us know your preferences as we want you to enjoy your vacation.

  • we would definitely recommend staying here. Sharon and Mitch are both so wonderful and welcoming and very laid back. They are kind and generous and were really helpful with giving ideas as to what we should do during our stay there.
They are also in close proximity to the waimea canyon which was nice.
As a first time user of Airbnb, I and my friend that I travelled with couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience. If you're looking to stay within the west side of the island and are looking for an affordable and reasonable place to stay, stay with Sharon and Mitch!

  • We were in the studio which was a private, comfortable, clean and well-equipped space. The fully-equipped kitchen was great. The studio is near the end of the road going up the Waimea canyon. Sharon and Mitch were easy going, great hosts! Will return!

We want to share more about the location for future travelers. This is the very best value in the area if you want:
Easy access to Waimea canyon and hiking trails. Hiking requires walking sticks or poles and mosquito repellent.
Tropical environment with birds, bugs, fruit trees, quiet, peaceful place
Town of Waimea and beautiful views although water from river makes beach right in town black and muddy/dirty water. Salt Pond Park (relatively clear water, lifeguard, nice swimming and camping, snorkeling, outdoor showers) is about 20 minutes away. Most off-roads to the beach, such as Port Allen's glass beach, are bumpy and have pot holes.
Driving to the top of the canyon at the last look out is great--take care on the 'shoulders' which have drop offs (causing flat tires).
Waimea has 2 good grocery stores and a theatre, with a small town, community feel.

  • We stayed 4 nights at Sharon and Mitchs place. It was a awesome place with really friendly people. We felt at home. Thank you for a great stay and the fresh fruits and salad from your backyard as well as the surf board!

  • Sharon and Mitch are great hosts and very welcoming. They spent alot of time to give us great recommendations on where to go in the area and made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed our time spent at their home and would be back. Thanks again! :)

  • This was a great place to stay in a beautiful part of Kauai. The room was quiet (other than tropical bird noises - which were great), the bed was comfortable and Sharon and Mitch were great hosts. Mitch took the time to give us great advice on several amazing hikes (and has some great info for climbing and surfing as well). We would definitely stay there again!

  • Very nice visit with Sharon and her family. She (and her other guests) were very welcoming and provided good tips on places to visit on the island and hikes to explore. The room is comfortable with direct access to the bathroom. The kitchen is great as well, particularly for us non-grain eaters. Would definitely look to stay here again on my next visit to Waimea.

About
Happily Married ( in photos with my husband Mitch and my grown children Megan, Alex and Chris Outdoors person. Hiking, surfing, swimming, biking College professor Christian Love books and reading Meeting people form other countries Learning new languages Gluten intolerant and can not eat wheat, barley or rye I eat healthy and try to stay in shape. I have put a room in my house in airbnb and here is what I like of my guests. I am also this kind of guest. I like a guest that wants to explore on their own. If time allows I like to hike with you. Frequently I am very busy so it is important that guests are independent and want to go and explore on their own. A guest at my house will be self directed. I have a full time career and will not be able to show you around. However I am very social and look forward to meeting you. Staying here will be similar to staying at a hostel in that you are self directed, make your own plans, do your own thing and clean up after yourself. The only exception is that the accommodations are nicer. My house is clean but, I do work full time so I keep my prices low and my rooms livable. If you like immaculate places where you are waited on, this is not the place for you.
