The Space

I'm a freelance consultant and yoga teacher looking to host friendly travelers coming through Chicago. Here's why you should come stay with me:

Hablo espanol perfectamente bien!

NEIGHBORHOOD: I can offer you a private queen-sized bedroom in a cozy 2 bedroom apartment. Located just off Chicago Avenue and Wood Street, it's accessible to the culture, arts, and entertainment in Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village, described as "the vanguard of music, nightlife, and fashion in Chicago." The neighborhood offers nightlife, bars, historic buildings, bakeries, art galleries, and parks to enjoy all within walking distance. I am a 20-min bus ride to Magnificent Mile/Water Tower Place and the lakefront, or a 30-min bus/train ride to Millennium Park and the loop.

TRANSPORTATION: I'm a quick 30-45 min ride from O'Hare/MidwayMegabus/Union Station on the 'el' train for $2.50. One ride is $2.25 and a transfer is $0.50. From O'Hare, it's $5.00 for the trip. It is better to buy a 1, 3 or 7 day pass if you are going to be traveling around. CTA Full Fare Passes for bus/train can be purchased at the airports upon arrival or via the cta website.
1-day: $10
3-day: $20
7-day: $28

PARKING: Ample free and metered parking is available right outside my doorstep. I have free parking passes for your vehicle as well if needed.

LIVING SPACE: Simple accommodations include the basics you'll need for a restful place to relax and unwind on your travels. I have a TV (not good reception), DVD player, stereo, iPod hookup and comfy couch in a shared living room. WIFI is available, and there are a few cool cafes and a bar open til 3:00 am within 1-2 blocks that have free WIFI.

Central A/C and central heat is provided. Yoga mats are available if you want to practice here, or I can direct you to studios within walking distance. You can also relax with a book on the garden patio while sipping some freshly brewed tea or coffee.

I believe in mutual respect of host-guest, and as an equal opportunity host, I am welcoming of all cultures, races, ages (FAMILY FRIENDLY), religious/spiritual beliefs, sexual/gender identity/expressions (LGBT-FRIENDLY), and disability status. My home is on the second floor with stairs and no elevator, the unit is not ADA accessible.

MEALS & KITCHEN: Breakfast is self-serve, including such items as Starbucks coffee, tea, fruit, granola and/or cereal, with your choice of almond milk, rice milk, or cow's milk, your choice.

BEDROOM(S): The queen size bedroom (for 2 guests) can be rented for short-term (1-3 nights), and also when I am traveling. The queen bed pictured has a memory foam mattress top and hypoallergenic casings on the bedding. For additional third guest rental price, the single bed in the private room with shared closet can be rented. This bed is an IKEA LYCKSELE futon that sleeps one and has an extra cushion on top. I have slept on this bed many times and it's very comfortable. Fresh cotton sheets, pillows, and towels are provided.

Please message me before requesting a booking to let me know how many guests you are planning to have and the dates requested, and I will promptly reply with availability. (Also, please see my other listing if you are looking for only a single traveler/guest).

Hope to host you soon! :)

  • Our experience with Greg's vintage apartment was great! Greg had to be out of town, hence we couldn't connect in person- but he did a great job with setting everything up well with us- and his friend let us in and got us acquainted into the place. The neighborhood of East Village/Wicker park is lovely and vibrant! I would highly recommend this place

  • Although I only met Greg briefly, he was a wonderful host - Very accommodating, nice, and helpful! The apartment itself is in an amazing location and the 66 bus was right in front, so getting around was really easy and convenient. My guests and I were very comfortable in the apartment, which was clean and private. Greg's roommate Noel was also very accommodating during our stay offering us recommendations and also being a reliable resource with any questions we had. Also, as one reviewer noted, the Mexican food place across the street was also very tasty and affordable! Overall, very positive experience and I definitely recommend this to anyone looking to stay in Chicago!

  • Greg was a great host. My girlfriend and I stayed with him because we were attending a music festival in Union Park which wasn't too bad of a walk away. Wicker Park is very near and has a lot of cool shops, bars, and cafes. The bedroom we stayed him didn't was a little small, but the bed was comfortable and we didn't need the space. Greg was very accommodating with our check in/check out times and is easily available if you need to talk to him.

  • My sister and I stayed in Greg's apartment for the Lollapalooza weekend. The space was walking distance from a number of cute vintage shops, cafes, and bars; a short bus+L ride from our touristy Chicago destinations. We loved Greg's reading cubby and backyard to relax after long days of sight seeing. (... And Leo is the sweetest lizard we have ever met!)

The bottom line? We would undoubtedly stay with Greg again.

  • Greg's house was clean, and the bed was comfortable. About a 10-15 minute walk to Wicker Park nightlife and restaurants, and about a 10 minute walk to the blue line to get to Lincoln park (about a 25 or 35 minute ride). He was able to accommodate me on short notice, which speaks to the fact that the apartment is kept clean in general.

  • Staying at Greg's place was my first time using airbnb - and I will certainly do it regularly from now on!
My girlfriend and me stayed with Greg for exploring Chicago in June. His flat was clean and in a nice and very conveniently located neighborhood (best mexican food I ever had just down the street), the bed was very comfy and, most importantly in June, the AC worked perfectly ;) Greg bought milk, fruit and muesli for us and made us feel very welcome! He even made the "checkin/out"-procedure as easy as possible.
If you wanna go to the city, the blue line is just 10mins away, the bus stops around the corner and if you feel like walking - also doable ;) There are a lot of bars and little (non-chain) restaurants in close walking distance.

I would certainly stay with Greg again and recommend him and his place to everyone!

  • Greg was amazing and his apartment is super cute! He had milk and cereal for myself and two colleagues while we were in town for a writer's conference, and he gave us great restaurant recommendations as well as directions around the city and subway systems. He went above and beyond for us. The beds were comfy and clean. This is my first airbnb experience and it was a fantastic one.

  • We had a great stay at the apartment. It is located in a bustling neighborhood about 6 blocks from the train. It's not a fancy area, but close to everything on the north side of Chicago and within walking distance of the Wicker Park area. Since we were gone all day and only came back at night to sleep, it was a perfect fit for us and you cannot beat the price. The place is clean and full of charm and it was a great overall experience.

  • 2 friends and myself stayed with Greg for 2 nights in October. Greg is a thoughtful, respectful, and trusting host who went out of his way to ensure we had an excellent stay. A great example of this was Greg asking us what type of milk we preferred for breakfast - 5 star hotels don't even do this! Another example of Greg's hospitality was him giving up his bed so we would sleep comfortably. Lastly, Greg trusted us enough to leave us alone in his place for the second night. Aside from Greg, his place has lots of charm and is located in a great part of Chicago. We had easy access to public transportation and there are some great stores (Western wear anyone?) and bars nearby. I would stay with Greg again. I highly recommend Greg as a host and his place as a great place to stay a night or two.

  • We could not have asked for a more perfect experience staying with greg in Chicago!! From the start he was great staying in touch with me via txt to make sure we had the address and we knew exactly how to get there. He even sent me (website hidden) directions to his apt. from our previous location!! We we arrived he showed us around his apt. and really made us feel welcome. He had also emailed me prio to our stay to ask us about what type of breakfast foods we like as well as dietary restrictions to make sure he didnt get anything we were allergic too. We are veg. so when we got there he had provided some wonderful options for us, very above and beyond. He also has the most amazing little lizard leo, my boyfriend and I loved him!!
His apt. is perfectly located. A very short walk takes you to lots of shops, bars and restaurants, one of the trendiest parts of the city.
We had an amazing time in chicago and can honestly say it would not have been the same hadn't we stayed with greg, it was a home away from home:)

About
I'm from the west suburbs of Chicago, have traveled around a lot, and re-settled here for the long term. Currently I'm a consultant/grantwriter/yoga teacher focusing on nonprofit work. I enjoy being creative through photography, grantwriting, performing, gardening, whatever medium that takes. I like taking photos of life as I see it, as it happens. I took a photography class several years ago and developed my own B/W film. Yoga is a lifestyle for me, spiritually, health-wise, community-wise. It helps me keep balanced and continue to be self-reflective and focused on growing as a person. I love traveling to obscure places and finding the adventure and beauty there. Basically I go with the flow of wherever life takes me.
