My husband and I stayed two nights in the surf cabin. The location is great and John is a wonderful host. He let us borrow two stand-up paddleboards, helped us strap them to our car, and sent us to Kawela Bay. It made for a great afternoon. The surf cabin is a great spot if you are looking to get away from the Waikiki area and experience the North Shore. The Cabin has a nice open air feeling, a great porch and an excellent view (even in the shower). Ted’s Bakery is an easy walk and a good option for breakfast. We read good reviews from previous guests about Kahuku Grill and decided to try it. We were not disappointed…the burgers are solid. We’d definitely recommend John’s surf cabin to friends!!
Jons place is amazing and in a fantastic spot on the north shore.. Perfect for a surf trip or just to hang out.
We had a fantastic time staying at the Sunset Beach Surf Cabin. The location and views are incredible - we could wake up and watch the surfers from our deck. John was a great host - very welcoming, helping us out with good local spots and beaches to visit, offering surfboards and paddle boards for us to borrow. The descriptions and photos are very accurate. You can cook at the cabin - a grocery store is a short drive away, or there are many delicious food trucks and some restaurants fairly close. This is a great part of the North Shore to stay at, as it is a little away from Haleiwa, which can get crowded. It was a wonderful and relaxing getaway for us, in a very special and stunning location. I will be back!
We had a great time at John's Sunset Beach Surf Cabin. It is located on a beautiful hillside overlooking one of the most famous surf breaks in the world. The front deck offered the perfect place for your morning coffee, with a view of whales breaching in the distance! I cannot think of a better location to stay while visiting the North Shore of Oahu. Conveniently close to one of the best bakeries on the island and beautiful beaches, yet distant from the more crowded areas of Haleiwa or Turtle Bay. Truly a perfect location. While only met John towards the end of our stay, he was very welcoming, and I look forward to the opportunity to stay here again and hear more from John about the beautiful home he shares here on the North Shore.
We loved everything about our stay in the Surfside Cabin! The only complaint we had was that we couldn't stay forever.
We liked the split level layout of the cabin and the lush grounds surrounding it. The view of the ocean from our lanai was wonderful. We enjoyed being joined there by a couple friendly birds for breakfast in the mornings. We were especially happy to find a French press in the kitchen.
John was a great host. He talked with us at length about fruit one morning, introducing us to the Noni, and offering use of paddle boards and bikes.
We enjoyed Haleiwa immensely. What a fun town with beautiful beaches and lots of great spots to eat, including a Foodland grocery a few miles from the cabin.
We had a lovely stay. The cabin was just how it is in the pictures. Quaint, quiet with spectacular views. John was a wonderful host, very friendly. It was a shame we could only stay 1 night. Would have loved to have spent more time there. Would definitely like to come back again :)
Our surf bungalow was the perfect spot on the north shore! Thank you John for making us feel so welcome and at home. Loved the shower with a view, and the extras that make a big difference like snorkel gear, surf boards and bikes. So convenient to everything as well!

30+ year North Shore vet and crew love to share local knowledge with guests. We overlook the most beautiful ocean and love to get in it everyday! From white water first timers to big wave tow ins, kite surf, stand up paddle and traditional surfing, we do it all. The focus is fun and we will put you in the right place to maximize yours. We eat mostly vegetarian and organic, and a lot of our food we grow on the property. Yoga is a focal point for us, and if you care to join in we are all inclusive... novice first timers and seasoned yogis alike! The communal yoga deck overlooks the surf at Sunset Beach and has been the venue for some wonderful practice for our guests that have visited and ourselves as well. We enjoy inspiring and being inspired by the friends we make up here. There are a couple of other bungalows on the property that are inhabited by like minded people, we always welcome you to join us, but are very respectful of your privacy.
