About this listing
I own a beautiful rural log home 5 minutes south of downtown Sturgeon Bay surrounded by huge maple trees, which are beautiful in any season but especially in the fall..I rent out 2 "country chic" guest bedrooms, rented separately ( a queen bed in each) with a shared bathroom. My bedroom is on the top level, so you have the run of the rest of the house with its huge living room, cathedral ceiling, cozy natural stone wood fireplace, cable TV, WiFi, dining room and shared kitchen. There is also a large deck which rings half the house, a firepit and an enclosed screen porch which is yours to use.
We are 2 minutes away from Potawatomi State Park and its wonderful hiking/biking trails, groomed ski./snowmobile trails and fishing/boating and kayak opportunities. Door County is a peninsula with 270 miles of shoreline and 5 state parks. We are known as an art and cultural paradise with live music, folk festivals, several live theatres,a vast assortment of wineries, art galleries, great places to shop, quaint boutiques and (my favorite..), antique stores galore. Door County caters for all 4 seasons.. Its been called the "Cape Cod of the Midwest"
I'm asking $110.00 per room per night (this includes Door County room tax and Wisconsin Sales Tax) which includes breakfast. I feed you exceptionally well... usually a home made hot breakfast, with great fresh-ground coffee in my French Press. You won't start a day of exploring hungry!
Price includes all Wisconsin and Door County Room Taxes...
I have a quaint wrap-around deck and porch. The porch has a roof over it. I also have a screen porch to use in the summer, so the bugs won't get you at night. I have a great fire-pit that my guests love to sit around and make awesome fires.
Interaction with Guests
I love to meet new people and get to know them. That's why I love Airbnb...it's so wonderful to sit and share wine and talk. If you want to be left alone, I will do that also! It's great to enjoy a fire in my fireplace in winter, or a fire outside in my firepit. I've made lasting friendships with my guests, and I've had them return time and time again!
My house is nestled in a beautiful forest of maple trees. A walk around the block is a zen moment in itself...the trees are so tall and lush. It's just a 5-minute drive to Potawatomi State Park, or a 10 minute drive to downtown Sturgeon Bay.
Sorry, Sturgeon Bay is a small town, so there is no public transportation. There is a local taxi cab though.
Main floor amenities can be used by guests. Basement has weight machine and eliptical and potentially more places to sleep... Top floor is my bedroom, which is totally my own space.. Please simply leave it as clean you found it.
Our visit was awesome! Cheri really made us feel at home and comfortable. She really went above and beyond what was expected, and made our stay a lot of fun. She offered great conversation and travel advice as well. This turned out to be an outstanding first AirBnB experience for me and I hope that any future traveling I do ends up like this experience!
Cheri (and her dog Jack) was warm and welcoming upon our arrival. She offers a beautiful, serene home to enjoy when one wants a break from the hustle and bustle of beautiful Door County. The space was warm, inviting, and very clean. Cheri's breakfast was scrumptious and a wonderful way to start the morning. I look forward to staying with Cheri again!
This was our first Airbnb stay and it was great! I hope that future stays can be as good as staying with Cheri. The beautiful log home backs up against the woods and you feel as though you are miles from everything. In actuality you are only minutes from downtown Sturgeon Bay. When we arrived, Cheri was still at work, but Jack, being a cordial host met us at the door and invited us in to sit in the spacious living room and enjoy a cup of tea. Although we had not traveled far, it was nice to rest in our charmingly decorated room on the very comfortable bed. We left for our evening activities shortly after Cheri got home, but not before she recommended a nearby establishment for Friday night fish fry.
The next morning Cheri prepared an abundant breakfast casserole, fruit and plenty of coffee. We relaxed and chatted with Cheri and learned a lot about the area and interests we have in common with Cheri, which includes Scandinavian cooking. We spent the day out and about in Sturgeon Bay -including the wooden boat show on the waterfront.
Sunday morning we were greeted early by Jack, who wanted a good ear scratching. Cheri fixed the Swedish pancakes, which we see now, she is famous for, and they are delicious. After some more interesting conversation, we loaded up, said our goodbyes and headed home. A wonderful weekend away!
Cheri was a great host during our stay! Very helpful, and happy to offer suggestions on things to do in the area. Her breakfasts were excellent, too.
Warning: Cheri's Swedish Pancakes are better than Al Johnson's! Cheri is a wonderful host and has a beautiful home. She was very helpful in directing two first-time Door County travelers. I am already thinking about going back and staying with her again. Would DEFINITELY recommend to anyone.
Cheri welcomed us to her home and let us choose which of the two available bedrooms we wanted. The listing was extremely accurate, and the neighborhood was pleasant and close to restaurants and shops.
This Log Home B&B was just like the photos! Cheri, our host, was really friendly and although our schedules didn't match up, she left us with many things to do and helped us feel welcome. The dog was a surprise, and it was like a real-life version of Wishbone from the TV show. The house was clean and inviting for guests.
About the Host, Cheri
I've lived in Sturgeon Bay my entire life, growing up on a cherry and apple orchard in Door County, which is a century farm, run by my brother, Kris Robertson. I work full-time during the week, and occasional weekends, so there are times I can't serve you breakfast like in a restaurant, but I will have food prepared for you to eat. I have a refrigerator for you to store your own snacks and beverages...My only request is that my home is not an all-inclusive, and I don't have a liquor license, so please don't think my liquor cabinet is a free-for-all....
I love to travel, kayak, bike, camp, hike, cross-country ski...Right now, I'm trying to hike around Door County, one beach at a time..I've recently become a grandmother to a beautiful baby boy, who I know will become the love of my life...(May 2014 - My Grandson just turned 2, oh how time flies!..and he "is" the love of my life!)
I love to sew, especially felted mittens, but also enjoy cozying next to my fireplace watching a good movie. I have a jack-russell terrier named Chloe..she's another reason I love to hike..I refinish furniture, and recently have learned to upholster. I'm a people person, and it's great to meet them this way, by helping them have a great vacation while they're in Door County...
Updated Dec 2012...my poor Chloe lost her battle with kidney failure...and I miss her terribly...I recently adopted a 6 yr. old boy Jack Russell (named Jack). He is such a sweet boy and is making me very happy....I'm sure you'll enjoy his company too! And Dayton, my grandson is a healthy and happy..so proud of him!
