At a tranquil dream location in Chianti mid-way between Florence and SIena, L'Antica Cistera is a tastefully restored traditional Tuscan farmhouse tucked away in the rolling Chianti hills overlooking the Elsa valley and San Gimignano.
The villa sleeps up to 9 people in four bedrooms and features spacious living areas. Three bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and the other bedroom has its own bathroom next door. The fifth bathroom houses the washing machine.
It is a perfect starting point for visits to Tuscany's Unesco heritage sites and other nearby historic centres and market towns, and affords plenty of opportunities for discovering and enjoying the stunningly beautiful surrounding countryside. Distances: Florence (30km), Siena (35km), San Gimignano (18km), Certaldo Alto, birthplace of Boccaccio (10km).
The house dates back to the 17th century at least and some parts, such as the underground granary and stone foundations, may be mediaeval. Indeed, it is within the conservation area of Semifonte, the fortified city that was razed to the ground in 1202 by the Florentines.
The owners live in a separate part of the house. We are British, are fluent in Italian and are at your disposal for advice and assistance with your stay in Tuscany, e.g. reservations, tourist recommendations and activities.
The property has the following facilities:
• tastefully furnished and decorated rooms with original beamed ceilings and terracotta floors,
• garden: vine-shaded terrace with tables and barbecue, sun terrace, olive grove
• swimming pool shared with the neighbouring house, 9 x 4 metres
• satellite TV with video player
• parking for 2-3 vehicles
The large farm house is divided into two completely separate parts, each with its own entrance and outdoor space.
Guests have full access to the western part, while we owners live in the eastern end. We do our best to respect your privacy but are generally available if you need help or advice.
Guests are requested not to smoke indoors.
We do not ask for a deposit for damage, but we do ask you to report any fault or breakage immediately.
The local authority operates a recycling scheme, so we ask you to sort your waste in accordance with the instructions in our visitors' guide.
