Come enjoy the Eastern Shore of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay in a relaxing and peaceful way. The Deal Island Bay Cottage on Maryland's Eastern Shore situated on a large lot, is a place where you can unwind from the daily stresses of the beltway life. You can watch the sunrise every morning as you eat breakfast from the cozy dining room or the screened in porch, while a symphony of bird sounds provide the music and entertainment. During the day, bring a bay kayak and float out into beautiful Tangier Sound with your friends. You can also Go crabbing in special spots known only to locals. (Instructions for 'chicken necking' are in the journal as well as the best spot to get huge crabs.)
In the fall / winter use it as your base for Duck and water fowl hunting in the huge Deal Island Wildlife Management Area (WMA).
Deal Island is a year-round Watermen community. Waterman are the people that ply the bay for crabs for their livlihood.
House is in a great place, close to the water, and with several bedrooms. There is plenty of parking for a boat and truck in the driveway. Fab did a great job communicating with us and helped out with information as needed.
Deal Island Cottage was exactly what we had expected. No issues, I would not hesitate to stay there again.
Had a lovely stay. Just my BF and I on this trip but this would have been a comfortable place to stay with my children with lots of books, games, and a HUGE yard for running around. Kitchen had everything we needed for enjoying local produce and seafood. Beds were comfortable. Home was clean. Fab provided lots of great information about the area. Close to a small beach where we spent an afternoon without seeing a soul! Would definitely stay here again.
My wife and I had a fun stay here in the off-season. The area is pretty remote so plan on driving 30 minutes to the closest gas station, grocery store, or restaurant; perhaps there are more options in season. As others have said, the water smells like sulfur (eggs) but it's manageable if you let it run for a while first. I also liked that Fab was really laid back so there were no extra clean up charges, deposits, or complicated instructions that I've seen at other places. All in all it was a good time.
Note that the property is not on the water, but the public beach is right across the bridge and there are nearby parks that provide access to lots of marshlands to explore.
I stayed at this cottage one night before doing the Sea Gull Century Ride (a 100 mile bike ride). The location was perfect as it was less than 15 minutes from the race. The place was comfortable, right by the water and I'll be staying again next year.
House is really close to a public boat launch and has a great yard to back a trailer into. The house is comfortable and spacious, with a great kitchen. The water has a strong smell - you may want to bring bottled water for drinking.
I had forgotten something at the house and the owner was helpful in getting my friend inside to pick it up.
