Guest room and private bath available in brand new villa, set in the village of Kutuh Kaja, minutes to Ubud center. Rice paddy view from infinity pool and gorgeous sunset, with full access to kitchen and wifi.

The Space

Villa Omah Ndeso was built with design in mind. It has architectural details you will not see elsewhere in Ubud. Tapestries and lampshades from Indonesia, India, and Africa, antique style furniture, and stunning distressed wood doors. The infinity pool is huge, and we have gorgeous sunsets (weather permitting) to the west and views of Mt Agung to the north (on a clear day). Stunning white lotus flowers bloom outside each morning. The village life exists around us, with rice farmers tending the crop, and ducks walking by who assist in the process. It is an interesting way to see what it is like to live in Bali, but in a very comfortable home, with modern amenities. The family we work with are friendly and welcoming and give you a good chance to learn about Bali life.

Guest Access

Guests have access to a bedroom with queen sized bed, new mattress and pillows, lovely armoire, private bathroom (non attached, but next to room), good wifi, access to kitchen with full-sized fridge, filtered water, blender for juices, and easy to cook. Shared access to kitchen, living space, and pool. The guest room has a lock and key for security.

Interaction with Guests

We are world travelers and perpetual nomads, temporarily settled in Ubud. We are looking to meet travelers who come through our lovely village, swap stories, and provide recommendations on things to do in town. Or, we can totally respect privacy. The guest room is set in the back of the house, away from the master, so privacy is ensured.

The Neighborhood

The village of Kutuh Kaja is about 2 kilometers north of Ubud main road. The road to town was recently paved, and lovely to drive down. It's possible to buy fruit, juices, and food in the village, without needing to head into town. Neighbors wave and smile as you drive through. It is quiet at night, except for the sounds of the tropical night, occasional frogs, and a Tokay gecko we have named Georgie. He stays outside of the house, we have no "official" pets.

Getting around

There is no public transport in Ubud. The house is set back from the road and you can access it by two means. First, you can walk from the main road in about 5 minutes down a dirt path through the rice paddies. Otherwise, it is recommended to rent a motorbike or a pushbike (both easy to get, cheap, and we can help). By motorbike, it is 5 minutes into town. By pushbike, it is 20-25 minutes into town. Walking it is 45 minutes. You can leave a bike on the main road and walk to the house, or you can drive down to the house in a minute. Plenty of tourists come down our path on walks or bike rides, just to experience the beauty of the surrounding rice paddies. Access to the house is not particularly easy, but it is how so many people live here in Bali, and part of the experience. You are staying where others tour! I want to be completely honest about access to the house, so ask questions if you are unsure.

Other Things to Note

Bedroom has a ceiling fan but no air conditioning. A table fan or standing fan can be added to the room. We have a "natural" form of air conditioning with vents on the top of the walls, which allow air flow. Most nights we sleep with a sheet and a light blanket under a fan set on its lowest setting.

As this is our primary residence, we are unable to accept longer term rentals without meeting the renter in person prior to the rental.

  • Amber and Eric are an amazing traveling duo. I have known Eric since grade school and I got to know Amber over the course of their world-wide adventures during the past year. They are an intelligent, conscientious and respectful couple with a true passion for travel, culture and people.

If you're considering them as guests, have no fear... they're good to go!

  • I met Amber and her husband while traveling in Bali. She's a writer and fellow blogger like I am and we clicked immediately. Amber and Eric are a wonderful couple. They are mature and responsible travelers but still funny and fun-loving. I know they would make wonderful guests (and of course they're invited to stay at my place anytime!).

  • Amber and Eric are a lovely couple-- I know them for years and stayed with them while I was in Bali. They are responsible (punctuality is a virtue in this regard!), fun, and have a wealth of travel knowledge to share. I would whole heartedly recommend anyone to stay with them.

  • We met Amber and Eric a few months ago in Bali where we were introduced thanks to mutual friends. We then met again on our own in Singapore. Now they're guests in my house, Explorers' Rest in London. They're wonderfully easy guests to have. They're comfortable making themselves at home, which I love and means their visit is no stress. We're having fun attending World Travel Market together in London and I'm learning that they're great explorer buddies to have as well. Dinners in the evening together are full of fun chat, travel (website hidden), and future plans. Amber makes a mean gravy and Eric carves a pretty tidy chicken. Great guests - you'll love them.
