Interaction with Guests
If we are in Espiritu Santo we will be staying in a cottage on site. We can interact with guests as much or as little as they require.
Situated on the largest of 83 islands making up Vanuatu is the beautiful island of Espiritu Santo.
We had been visiting Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, over a 20 year period and enjoyed it immensely for the first 15 years. Then it became commercialised and overcrowded so we decided to visit Santo.
When Vanuatu is mentioned, people say they have been there, but on inquiring they think that Vanuatu is only Port Vila, they have never heard of Santo, I only knew of Santo because of it being so famous for it's cattle and therefore the best steak in the world, so when my husband suggested we go there I was a little hesitant. OMG, it is beautiful, lush, laid back and so serene.
Okay, it doesn't have tall buildings and crowds of people and there is potholes in the footpaths but it has magnificent blue water holes, it has amazing white sandy beaches and protected turquoise waters, it has the best scuba diving in the world, fishing is great and there is an abundance of colourful fish and coral to snorkel.
The local Ni-Vanuatu have been voted the happiest nation in the world many times, and they are.
Santo is a great holiday destination for singles, couples, families and honeymooners alike.
See you there.
There is an abundance of very small taxi's, taxi trucks & buses and for a small amount you can negotiate with them to take you around the island. However because your accommodation is 11 kms from the town, it is a good idea to hire a small car or if you want to go on out of the way destinations a 4 WD would be recommended. Having 5 acres parking is not a problem, however not under cover. The best place to hire a small car is Espiritu Car Hire, for a small charge they will take the car to the airport for your arrival.
This listing is our own home when we are in Vanuatu so we expect guests to treat it as they would their own home.
No smoking indoors
As electricity is extremely expensive we would appreciate it if air con be switched off when not necessary or when no one is at home.
The Jetty was exactly as Robyn described. If you want an island holiday that gets away from the commercial hustle and bustle, with options to do as little or as much as you please - then Santo, Luganville and the Jetty is great option! We spent 9 nights at the Jetty and would liked to have spent more. Robin & Bill were great hosts and neighbours - never intruding but available for the odd bit of advice and a social chat. The weather in mid August was generally cloudy and breezy but always a pleasant 23-28 deg.
It was easy to avoid the coastal breeze by taking a trip a wee way inland to one (or more!) of the blue holes - fantastic! We had the Riri blue hole (10k up the road.) to ourselves and all the other tourist sites we visited were similarly crowd free. Champagne Beach, Oyster Island, Blue holes, Port Orly & Million Dollar Point were some of the destinations we were able to visit. The hire car we had was restricted to the sealed roads only with access to the above attractions the only exceptions. The unsealed roads are very rough! If you want to explore the rest of the island then hire a heavy 4x4. There are many options for dining out, both in Luganville and North at the various resorts up the coast. I can recommend the monthly curry night at the Coral Quays Resort. The Poulet Fish was outstanding. Please note that Coconut Crab is becoming an endangered species and it is better to select another Crustacean dish if this is offered to you.
The Jetty was the ideal base for our unstructured, unwinding, warm holiday in a tropical island paradise - I can thoroughly recommend the Jetty and our host Robyn, to anyone considering this type of holiday experience.

The Jetty was a great place to stay. Robyn answered all of my many questions and put us in touch with tour groups and rental car companies. The place was clean and comfortable. The deck is amazing and its just so relaxing to sit out there at any time of the day. The kitchen is big and we cooked several nights at the house.
When we arrived there was all the info we needed typed out on the table. They were very informative and told all the great places to see in Santo. We had an amazing time. I would recommend staying here.
