Our little cottage, "Banyan-Nook", is tucked under a big Banyan tree! The back wall is all screened and looks out into the gardens. It has a magical feeling of being a part of nature. It has a queen size bed, linens, kitchen counter with a double stainless sink, 2 burner propane stove, coffee press, dishes, pots, blender, cooler,a private hot outdoor shower, and indoor bathroom with a toilet. All of the purified Hawaiian rain water that you'll need is provided for you. Free snorkel gear is available, as well as free wifi internet. Washer and dryer are available. It is featured with a gorgeous stained glass window. The cottage has a very peaceful feeling. Located just off of the historical "Red Road" on the southeast coast of the Big Island, which is the sunniest part of the east side of the island. No vog here! Just a few miles away from where the lava is flowing down the mountain, creating the newest land on earth! This is truly an awesome part of the Big Island that most people don't venture out to see! Only a 7 minute walk down to Kehena black sand beach, where you can swim with the dolphins, or just sit and watch them play. A 15 minute drive to the warm ponds, where you can soak your bones in water that is thermally heated by the volcano. 20 minutes to Kapoho tidepools, where you can snorkel at one of the best spots on the island with it's many varities of fish and corals. 20 minutes to Pahoa town for groceries, gas, banks, restaurants, etc. 45 minutes to Hilo, and 55 to Volcano National Park. A wonderful place to base yourself in peace while you explore this amazing island with all of it's glory! 2 persons maximum. No pets, please. We hope to have the opportunity to be your hosts! Mahalo! Seneca and Jeff.
The Banyan Nook may be small but it is clean, cozy and had everything we needed. The open design connects you with surrounding flora and beautifully landscaped yard. Wonderful outdoor shower. Jeff and Seneca r laid-back and awesome! Very open, helpful and courteous hosts. Really enjoyed getting to know them and their lovely cat Curly and adorable dog PJ! Hope to stay there again next year
Hey you guys!
Thanks so much for your great review!
It was really cool to meet you two...always so sad for us when great folks like you leave....it leaves us with a bit of empty frustration!
Please know we totally enjoyed your visit, and we hope to see you again some day!
Jeff and Seneca.
Thanks to be your guests for four nights. We were quiet busy moving around so there was not much time left for a talk. We appreciated the map to the pools and the homemade cake. We got well used to the frogs after the second night.
This place is truly magical -- Seneca and Jeff are fabulous hosts, they made us feel very comfortable. We had plenty of our own space and felt at "home" but Seneca and Jeff were right there and more than happy to answer any questions, loan snorkel gear and set us on the right track toward discovering the beauty of the area.
Mahalo, Seneca and Jeff, for sharing your little slice of paradise. I enjoyed three nights in this secluded, but not remote, cottage. The nights were cool, the frog symphony entertaining, the open air shower refreshing, and the hosts welcoming. Everything I could possibly need was provided. When you visit, be sure to take advantage of the black sand beaches, the thermal pond, the amazing tidal pools, and include a stop in the quaint town of Pahoa. I'm hoping to return next winter for more fun in the sun.
WOW! Staying at Seneca & Jeff's Banyan-Nook was an outstanding first stay with AirBnB.
The space was just right for the two of us, comfortable bed and lovely outdoor shower. The stained glass details pieces are very well done and add a new level of ascetic beauty to the space.
The was by far my favorite lodging anywhere on the island, and will happily return to it next trip to the Big Island.
This was an amazing cottage. So serene and quiet. Surrounded by beautiful plants. Seneca and Jeff were very accommodating and nice! Jeff picked me and dropped me from the airport and gave me the lowdown on the local scene. Seneca makes cool stained glass.
I know I'll be back.
The cottage is unique and the surrounding is beautiful with lots of plants and flowers ... it feels like you sleep in jungle... and if you once get used to all these "jungle - noises", you gonna miss it. The hosts, Seneca and Jeff are open, friendly and warmhearted ... All in all a very good place to stay (in addition to that there is a very nice, black sand beach in walking distance..).
My friend and really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Banyan-Nook Cottage. It's small but the bed is comfortable and we cooked a meal of mexican fajitas in there one night and breakfast both mornings! We enjoyed eating our breakfast outside in the semi private outdoor space.
Try to visit this area on a Wednesday night when the tiny town at the end of the red road has an amazing and authentic Hawaiian party with craft and food vendors, great music and drinks!
My husband and I LOVED our stay. Private, comfortable, and secluded. Great location on the Big Island.
