About This Listing
A beautiful one-hundred year old Richard Sharp Smith historic home in Montford neighborhood. 3 blocks from the center of town, 5-15 minute walk to everything. Hot tub, high speed wi-fi and cable tv, outdoor spaces for relaxation, gourmet kitchen.
This home is a quick 5 minute walk from the center of downtown. This historic neighborhood is peaceful, yet only a short walk to all the fun activities downtown. This is the calendar for the Green Room. Fantastic restaurants nearby, the Pritchard Park drum circle, the US Cellular Center, and St. Lawrence Basilica are only three blocks away. We are a 5 minute drive from UNCA.. You won't need to move your car once you are settled in, unless you decide to go to the Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village, 10 minutes away. Easy access to the Blue Ridge parkway, NC Arboretum, Folk Art Center and much more!
This calendar reflects the reservations for the "Green Room". The Green room downstairs has a comfy queen size bed and shares the mauve bathroom right next to it. The Blue, room next to the Green Room, is available for instant book under "Victorian Cottage Montford Blueroom" and has one queen bed and a shares the mauve bathroom. A "roll-away" bed is available for one extra guest. All rooms have room air conditioners, high speed wi-fi and cable tv, access to outdoor hot tub (bring bathing suits!), fire pit, gas and charcoal grills. You may use the kitchen to cook if you wish, but I will provide teas, coffee and fresh pastries from my sister, Patricia's, bakery. There are some amazing places to eat within a 5-minute walk.
Interaction with Guests
Now that we have received "SuperHost" status, we will do everything to keep that honor. I have a really easy-going manner and love to laugh and have fun! Lots of nice people moving through, but yet a very mellow place. You are free to come and go as you please and basically just feel at home. I will be happy to help you with whatever your needs are, and I have a supply of maps and brochures and suggestions to make the most of your visit. I do teach afternoon music lessons (flute/voice/ piano) Monday - Thursday.
I love the beautiful old historic homes in this Montford neighborhood. My house dates from circa 1912, termed a "Victorian cottage", and built by Richard Sharp Smith. Many of the homes in the neighborhood date from the 1880's. This Victorian neighborhood was the first suburb of Asheville. It is very quiet and friendly. Lots of beautiful walking opportunities around the neighborhood.
We are happy to do shuttles to and from airport and around town if needed for a small fee. The city bus stops near the house, but the house is so conveniently located that you will hardly need the public transportation.
Other Things to Note
Please park on the Elizabeth side. Also, the day of your arrival, a general ETA is appreciated!
I have two small short-haired kitties, Sebastian and Sasha, real sweet and mellow. They stay outside most of the time and are never allowed in guest rooms for those who might be slightly allergic. I have had several guests stay who are allergic to cats and have had no adverse reactions.
LGBTQ and straight-friendly.
Hair dryer, iron and ironing board available upon request. outdoor hot tub, outdoor screen room, patio with pergola, outdoor fire pit, gas and charcoal grills, flower, herb and outdoor spaces for your pleasure.
Smoking outside only. No drugs, drinking ok if of age.
My friends and I were blown away with Rita's level of service. I was working my way across the country on a move with some friends, and had told this to Rita beforehand, and she came outside to greet us at 11:30 PM to make sure I got my UHaul parked without any difficulty. The house is gorgeous, and the exterior decks, patios, and porches are just as nice. A convenient 10-15 minute walk to downtown, and an otherwise great departure point for more Asheville sites that are a little farther out of town (Biltmore, Sierra Nevada, etc.). If I ever pass through again I'd make it a point to stay here again.
We stayed at Rita's for a weekend and it was a great experience all around. We booked three rooms as we had a group in town for a wedding and everyone loved it. The house is beautiful, very well maintained and close to town. We would definitely stay there again.
I had an utterly delightful stay at Rita's. Rita wasn't about the night of my visit but her husband, Jeff, was kind enough to pick me up from Asheville Airport and our conversation about music and the healing arts on the way back to their place was one of the most interesting and stimulating I've had for a long while.
Rita and Jeff have a lovely, laid-back, charming house and Jeff was a thoughtful and generous host. Rita and Jeff provide pastries in the morning from Rita's sister's shop and they were delicious, as was the coffee.
As well as sampling the delights of Rita and Jeff's hottub, I took a most enjoyable stroll around their lovely neighbourhood. And their place is conveniently located very close to downtown Asheville so it was just a short walk into town to see the sights.
Jeff was kind enough to store my bag whilst I wandered downtown. Returning from my wander, I picked up my bag and hopped into a taxi after a very memorable stay.
Eric and Rite were wonderful hosts in their beautiful home. I would highly recommend staying with them if you are visiting Asheville. We stayed in the Green Room and everything was very nice. We only were in town for one night and when we arrived our plan was to go downtown to eat and check out some breweries. It started pouring raining and Jeff was so nice and offered to drop us off downtown so we didn't have to walk in the rain. Exceeding our expectations by far. Everything is the home was well organized for the different rooms including the labeled bins in the bathroom and refrigerator. Wish we could have stayed longer, but when we come back I know where we will be staying :)
Unfortunately I did not get to meet Rita because she was away on a trip, however I did get to meet Jeff. He was very welcoming from the start and provided great conversation throughout the trip as well as helping me out with directions and helping me find places to visit. I could tell that Jeff and Rita are both generous and good people which made me comfortable. The location was amazing, just a mile from the botanical gardens and not even three blocks away from downtown.
