A beautiful one-hundred year old Richard Sharp Smith historic home in Montford neighborhood. 3 blocks from the center of town, 5-15 minute walk to everything. Hot tub, high speed wi-fi and cable tv, outdoor spaces for relaxation, gourmet kitchen.
This home is a quick 5 minute walk from the center of downtown. This historic neighborhood is peaceful, yet only a short walk to all the fun activities downtown. This is the calendar for the Green Room. Fantastic restaurants nearby, the Pritchard Park drum circle, the US Cellular Center, and St. Lawrence Basilica are only three blocks away. We are a 5 minute drive from UNCA.. You won't need to move your car once you are settled in, unless you decide to go to the Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village, 10 minutes away. Easy access to the Blue Ridge parkway, NC Arboretum, Folk Art Center and much more!
This calendar reflects the reservations for the "Green Room". The Green room downstairs has a comfy queen size bed and shares the mauve bathroom right next to it. The Blue, room next to the Green Room, is available for instant book under "Victorian Cottage Montford Blueroom" and has one queen bed and a shares the mauve bathroom. A "roll-away" bed is available for one extra guest. All rooms have room air conditioners, high speed wi-fi and cable tv, access to outdoor hot tub (bring bathing suits!), fire pit, gas and charcoal grills. You may use the kitchen to cook if you wish, but I will provide teas, coffee and fresh pastries from my sister, Patricia's, bakery. There are some amazing places to eat within a 5-minute walk.
Interaction with Guests
Now that we have received "SuperHost" status, we will do everything to keep that honor. I have a really easy-going manner and love to laugh and have fun! Lots of nice people moving through, but yet a very mellow place. You are free to come and go as you please and basically just feel at home. I will be happy to help you with whatever your needs are, and I have a supply of maps and brochures and suggestions to make the most of your visit. I do teach afternoon music lessons (flute/voice/ piano) Monday - Thursday.
I love the beautiful old historic homes in this Montford neighborhood. My house dates from circa 1912, termed a "Victorian cottage", and built by Richard Sharp Smith. Many of the homes in the neighborhood date from the 1880's. This Victorian neighborhood was the first suburb of Asheville. It is very quiet and friendly. Lots of beautiful walking opportunities around the neighborhood.
We are happy to do shuttles to and from airport and around town if needed for a small fee. The city bus stops near the house, but the house is so conveniently located that you will hardly need the public transportation.
Other Things to Note
Please park on the Elizabeth side. Also, the day of your arrival, a general ETA is appreciated!
I have two small short-haired kitties, Sebastian and Sasha, real sweet and mellow. They stay outside most of the time and are never allowed in guest rooms for those who might be slightly allergic. I have had several guests stay who are allergic to cats and have had no adverse reactions.
LGBTQ and straight-friendly.
Hair dryer, iron and ironing board available upon request. outdoor hot tub, outdoor screen room, patio with pergola, outdoor fire pit, gas and charcoal grills, flower, herb and outdoor spaces for your pleasure.
Smoking outside only. No drugs, drinking ok if of age.
Was greeted by Jeff upon arrival. Did not feel the most comfortable with him but he's a nice guy. Physical appearances were less than professional and that's what threw things off for us right from the start. Never met Rita; don't know where she was.
Clean and nice smelling house. Girlfriend loved the charm and age of it. I did not.
Bed was not the most comfortable. It took me a while to find a pillow/towel combination that suited my needs. Bed also fell through on our second night. Nothing going on; just laying on it. Neither of us slept comfortably that night. Girlfriend considered sleeping on the small couch in the room.
The ladies were happy with breakfast - baked goods from Rita's sister's bakery. The brownies are the best. The guys would have preferred a hot breakfast.
Quiet neighborhood. Loved the location. Walk to downtown was easy - walk back was downhill.
Overall I would say this was my last time staying at a BnB. Also the first. The head of the bed fell through the support and onto the floor. Jeff and another guest had to help get it back up... how else should I feel? There's something to be said about what you get from a hotel - the same thing at every one of them. I don't care for old house charm or the personal touch.
Would not go back. Would not recommend.
Nicely appointed rooms walking distance to historic Asheville. Hosts were very nice.
This house was nestled in a quiet neighborhood that was within walking distance of downtown Asheville. We were welcomed by hosts and felt secure in the location. The bedroom & bathroom were both clean and well-appointed for our short stay.
Both Rita and Jeff made us feel welcome and offered a lot of information and background about Asheville and the lovely neighborhood. The room was beautiful and cozy - I slept very well. The location was really good - only a few blocks to shops and restaurants. We loved Rita and Jeff's personal touch and would recommend the room as a great place to stay in Asheville.
Description was accurate. Beautiful home and hosts lived up to their claim that we could treat it like home. We felt very welcome. Short walk to downtown in a nice part of town.
Everything was incredible from the moment we arrived until checkout. We will be staying with Rita again, and enjoying the hot tub once more. There is an awesome guestbook with stories from all over the world. Perfect location, perfect hosts.
Rita and Jeff were gracious hosts. Jeff met us when we arrived and he gave us a tour of their beautiful home. The house is part of the Montford neighborhood, so it is within easy walking distance of downtown Asheville and some great restaurants in Montford. The room was beautiful and the bed was comfortable. We loved using the hot tub, which was in their backyard and afforded a beautiful view of the night sky. Every morning we had fresh muffins from the local bakery, coffee and tea in their lovely kitchen area. We definitely would stay here again.

I am a professional musician. I teach private music lessons in my home and also do a lot of performing and am an adjunct professor of music. I love to travel, meet people and do fun things. I am proud of my town and am happy to help visitors find the best experience. I am really easy-going and have been renting rooms in my house for many years to people who need a place to stay for weeks, months or sometimes years. Guests will have a comfortable home away from home with easy flexibility within the house to come and go as you please. (must love music!)
