A beautiful one-hundred year old historic home in Montford neighborhood built by Richard Sharp Smith of Biltmore House. 3 blocks from the center of downtown. Hot tub, outdoor spaces for relaxation, high-speed wi-fi, gourmet kitchen, sweet space.
This home is a quick 5 minute walk from the center of downtown. This historic neighborhood is peaceful, yet only a short walk to all the fun activities downtown. Fantastic restaurants nearby, the Pritchard Park drum circle, the US Cellular Center, and St. Lawrence Basilica are only three blocks away. We are a 5 minute drive from UNCA.. You won't need to move your car once you are settled in, unless you decide to go to the Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village, 10 minutes away. Easy access to the Blue Ridge parkway, NC Arboretum, Folk Art Center and much more!
The Gold room is upstairs and has a queen-sized bed and shared bathroom. All rooms have high speed wi-fi, window air conditioners, access to outdoor hot tub (bring bathing suits!), fire pit, gas and charcoal grills. A "roll-away" bed is available for an extra guest. You may use the kitchen to cook if you wish, but I will provide teas, coffee and fresh pastries made by my sister's bakery! There are some amazing places to eat within a 5-minute walk.
Interaction with Guests
Now that we have received "SuperHost" status, we will do everything to keep that honor. I have a really easy-going manner and love to laugh and have fun! Lots of nice people moving through, but yet a very mellow place. You are free to come and go as you please and basically just feel at home. I will be happy to help you with whatever your needs are, and I have a supply of maps and brochures and suggestions to make the most of your visit. I do teach afternoon music lessons (flute/voice/ piano) Monday - Thursday.
I love the beautiful old historic homes in this Montford neighborhood. My house dates from circa 1912, termed a "Victorian cottage", and built by Richard Sharp Smith. Many of the homes in the neighborhood date from the 1880's. This Victorian neighborhood was the first suburb of Asheville. It is very quiet and friendly. Lots of beautiful walking opportunities around the neighborhood.
We are happy to do shuttles to and from airport and around town if needed for a small fee. The city bus stops near the house, but the house is so conveniently located that you will hardly need the public transportation.
Other Things to Note
Please park on the Elizabeth side of the house. Also, the day of your arrival, a general ETA is very much appreciated.
I have two small short-haired kitties, Sebastian and Sasha, real sweet and mellow. They stay outside most of the time and are never allowed in guest rooms for those who might be slightly allergic. I have had several guests stay who are allergic to cats and have had no adverse reactions.
LGBTQ and straight-friendly.
Hair dryer, iron and ironing board available upon request, outdoor hot tub, outdoor screen room, patio with pergola, outdoor fire pit, gas and charcoal grills, flower, herb and vegetable gardens.
Smoking outside only. No drugs, drinking ok if of age.
Rita and Jeff are a wonderful team. Jeff was there to greet me when I arrived and showed me around their home. My sin, who I was in Asheville to see, was with me and Jeff courteously invited him to please feel free to come into the home when I was there, making us both feel quite at home.
Rita and I met the next morning and had many wonderful opportunities over the next three days to get to know each other. Such a warm and witty person, definitely someone I want to come back to see the next time I am in Asheville.
The Gold Room was cozy and warm. I arrived with a cold and actually felt at home enough to stay in bed the first day until I was feeling better. The bed was comfy and the house was spotless. I will definitely visit Rita and Jeff on my next visit.
What a fantastic place. My wife and I stayed for Valentine's weekend and we had such a great time. It's a very quaint and lovely house, and the hosts are incredibly welcoming. We stayed in the Gold Room. It was toasty warm and very comfortable. In the morning, they provided coffee, teas, and delicious muffins.
We can't wait for our next trip to Asheville - we will definitely stay here again!
We really enjoyed our time at Rita & Jeff's home. Unfortunately I had a migraine episode during our first day, but I was completely able to take my meds and relax. Followed Rita's recommendation to take the La Zoom tour which was great! We look forward to returning in spring. Excellent location for downtown fun!!!!
Rita and Jeff made us feel very welcome, and the house, bedroom, and common spaces are really really nice. The house is definitely walking distance from downtown Asheville in a neighborhood that felt really safe to us. Good morning muffins and coffee. Only wish we had time to use the hot tub!
Beautiful house with very kind and accommodating hostess and host. Easy walk to downtown and hot tub were greatly appreciated!
Rita was a lovely host! Her home is cozy and clean, and it is right next to downtown. Don't miss an opportunity to stay with her! I hope to visit again soon.
Rita's place was absolutely lovely and we were welcomed and made to feel quite at home. We would definitely like to go back another time and spend some more time there. Asheville is amazing!!

I am a professional musician. I teach private music lessons in my home and also do a lot of performing and am an adjunct professor of music. I love to travel, meet people and do fun things. I am proud of my town and am happy to help visitors find the best experience. I am really easy-going and have been renting rooms in my house for many years to people who need a place to stay for weeks, months or sometimes years. Guests will have a comfortable home away from home with easy flexibility within the house to come and go as you please. (must love music!)
