About this listing
A beautiful one-hundred year old historic home in Montford neighborhood built by Richard Sharp Smith of Biltmore House. 3 blocks from the center of downtown. Hot tub, outdoor spaces for relaxation, high-speed wi-fi, gourmet kitchen, sweet space.
This home is a quick 5 minute walk from the center of downtown. This historic neighborhood is peaceful, yet only a short walk to all the fun activities downtown. Fantastic restaurants nearby, the Pritchard Park drum circle, the US Cellular Center, and St. Lawrence Basilica are only three blocks away. We are a 5 minute drive from UNCA.. You won't need to move your car once you are settled in, unless you decide to go to the Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village, 10 minutes away. Easy access to the Blue Ridge parkway, NC Arboretum, Folk Art Center and much more!
The Gold room is upstairs and has a queen-sized bed and shared bathroom. All rooms have high speed wi-fi, window air conditioners, access to outdoor hot tub (bring bathing suits!), fire pit, gas and charcoal grills. A "roll-away" bed is available for an extra guest. You may use the kitchen to cook if you wish, but I will provide teas, coffee and fresh pastries made by my sister's bakery! There are some amazing places to eat within a 5-minute walk.
Interaction with Guests
Now that we have received "SuperHost" status, we will do everything to keep that honor. I have a really easy-going manner and love to laugh and have fun! Lots of nice people moving through, but yet a very mellow place. You are free to come and go as you please and basically just feel at home. I will be happy to help you with whatever your needs are, and I have a supply of maps and brochures and suggestions to make the most of your visit. I do teach afternoon music lessons (flute/voice/ piano) Monday - Thursday.
I love the beautiful old historic homes in this Montford neighborhood. My house dates from circa 1912, termed a "Victorian cottage", and built by Richard Sharp Smith. Many of the homes in the neighborhood date from the 1880's. This Victorian neighborhood was the first suburb of Asheville. It is very quiet and friendly. Lots of beautiful walking opportunities around the neighborhood.
We are happy to do shuttles to and from airport and around town if needed for a small fee. The city bus stops near the house, but the house is so conveniently located that you will hardly need the public transportation.
Other Things to Note
Please park on the Elizabeth side of the house. Also, the day of your arrival, a general ETA is very much appreciated.
I have two small short-haired kitties, Sebastian and Sasha, real sweet and mellow. They stay outside most of the time and are never allowed in guest rooms for those who might be slightly allergic. I have had several guests stay who are allergic to cats and have had no adverse reactions.
LGBTQ and straight-friendly.
Hair dryer, iron and ironing board available upon request, outdoor hot tub, outdoor screen room, patio with pergola, outdoor fire pit, gas and charcoal grills, flower, herb and vegetable gardens.
Smoking outside only. No drugs, drinking ok if of age.
We did not meet Rita during our stay, but we did meet Jeff. He was very nice and gave us a tour of the house when we arrived. Overall the stay was very nice- we were only there for one evening. The location is great and is very close walking distance to downtown.
I had a relaxing visit with Jeff and Rita. Jeff greeted me and showed me around. He expressed his gratitude for my stay and made me feel very welcome. I met Rita the next morning and she was like a ray of sunshine. There were pastries and a variety of coffees from which to choose. Beautiful flute and guitar music from Rita and Jeff throughout the day. The hosts are not obtrusive and observe boundaries but are there if you need them. There are beautiful gardens and outdoor sitting areas and be sure to take advantage of the hot tub which is great after a long day of hiking or walking around. It's easy to operate; Jeff will show you. The house is a short (partially uphill walk) to downtown (maybe 15 minutes to Pritchard Park, site of Friday night Drum Circle, which I highly recommend). The shared bathrooms were a bit of a challenge, but certainly manageable. The Gold room has an a/c unit which is very useful in the summer.
We only met Jeff & he was very nice. After being shown around we left and went to a hotel. In my opinion, the room was to small for the two of us plus suitcases. Didn't feel private enough and the whole place could of been a little more tidy. We had two nights booked. Rita & Jeff both contacted us when we didn't return. Rita offered a refund, I didn't accept the refund since I felt we could of managed if we had to, however, since it was a vacation we wanted to spread out and enjoy.
I loved the experience of staying in this charming bungalow. It was perfectly located with 4 blocks of the heart of downtown and I walked there to shop and dine. It was very close as promised to the event I was attending. Lovely. The host was charming, the neighborhood was fantastic to walk through in the cool of the morning and admire the lovely Victorian historic homes. I will return again!. Loved the front porch and the summer twilight watching the lightening bugs come alive. The room was comfortable and the kitchen felt like home.
Rita and Jeff were fantastic hosts! They were very accommodating of our arrival time and provided us with everything we needed to be comfortable during our brief stay. The cottage itself is absolutely gorgeous and very welcoming, with a stunning garden! It feels very much like a wonderful European guesthouse. Our room was adorable, clean, and cozy. The location couldn't be better: close to downtown, but very peaceful. My husband and I hope to visit again in the near future!
Rita and Jeff are very welcoming people. Their house is beautiful and in a safe, walkable neighborhood. We had 1 small issue which they resolved immediately. They provided a great breakfast and their large kitchen provided a friendly and social atmosphere.
Rita was lovely - we were delayed from a storm and Rita responded quickly and was waiting for us when we arrived - very calming! Also great coffee AND home made pastries every morning - great way to start day
