The Carriage House (sleeps 6 adults/ 1 QUEEN + 2 FULL sofa sleepers) has an open floor plan (see photo #2 for proximity of bedroom area to LR). It is perfect for families or couples traveling on a budget as it allows your whole group to share a space. You will find the Carriage House located at the rear of our Victorian farm through our heirloom fruit orchard and organic vegetable garden. In addition, there is a great meadow/ lawn area for play or simply relaxing under the fruit trees. There is also RV and off street parking and private access to this cottage at the rear of the property for ease.
The Carriage House has a spacious kitchen, large plank wood floors, and a wood burning stove (in addition to automatic gas heat). Book yourself a spa treatment after a fine dining experience, retire to your cottage for a glass of wine and awake refreshed for a walk through Big Basin State Park, where the redwoods grow to 350 feet! On cool nights, snuggle up in front of our wood burning stove with a magnificent glass of local wine. Wine tasting, antique hunting, beach combing, and a wealth of outdoor activities—Santa Cruz County has much to offer.
Whether you stay right here in the San Lorenzo Valley or venture to the nearby cities of Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Jose or San Francisco, consider us your home away from home. Boulder Creek is a great place to stay to day trip all over the Bay Area!
**** Note: Santa Cruz County requires us to collect 11% tax on the room rate. This only applies to nightly reservations less than one month. Tax can be paid upon check in (check or cash only...sorry, no credit cards).
**** the July 4th weekend has a three night minimum (check in 7/3 PM) so families can enjoy the Independence Day festivities...all within 2-4 block walking distance!
7AM-Noon Firehouse Breakfast (YUM)!
10 AM Parade (WOW)!
Noon-? BBQ, Live music and Awards Ceremony at the Junction Park on the River (SWIM!)
Guests have access to our organic veggie garden and fruit of the season at the rear half of our half acre property.
Interaction with Guests
We want our guests to enjoy privacy as much as possible. We tend to keep to the front half of the property where the main house is. However, the guest may see us working in the veggie garden or caring for our farm pets. But we are SUPER social people and invite guests to come chat and visit with us!
We love the close proximity of restaurants and little shops to explore within a block, while enjoying a county setting. It's truly a old fashioned small town experience! Being surrounded by State Parks (from the mountains to the beach) is a perk too!
We have public transit one block away. The bus has a summer schedule that takes guests directly into Big Basin State Park and a year round schedule that will take guests to down town Santa Cruz...walking distance to the beach boardwalk.
Other Things to Note
We have tons of events and festivals in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Anything from music to parades to holiday events. Ask us for a schedule of events happening in our area!
Relax and have fun!
No smoking on the property please.
In Hawaiian style...leave your footwear at the door so the outdoors stay out!
Leave the house as you found it: dishes clean, garbage/ recycling out (we'll take care of the linens and cleaning). We have easy checkout instructions in the cottage.
Have common courtesy for our neighbors and respect quieter times of the day (before 8AM and after 10PM).
We love pets, but are unable to provide for them here due to many guests with allergies. If you are traveling with your furry family, we can give referrals for pet accommodations nearby. Likewise, don't allow any of our property kitties guilt you into allowing them in the cottage!
AirBnB is unable to translate reviews as of yet, but here is Dorit's review through Google Translator:
"We spent three wonderful nights at Tamara's accommodation. The house has everything you need and is very clean. The kitchen is very well equipped. Unfortunately, we could not turn on the fireplace in accordance with local regulations. The guest house is located in the rear part of the property and you can the car in the Oak Street behind the guest house parking - which is very convenient for a lot of luggage. Throughout the house Tamara has left descriptions that left no questions unanswered. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. From the main road in Boulder Creek you get nothing. In the main street you will find many shops and get everything you need. Big Baisin is only 15-20min away and offers wonderful hiking - trails. The absolutely remarkable Monterey Bay Aquarium is 1.5 h and a great day trip. Tamara is a wonderful host, very warm and attentive. We could not say goodbye in person, but the hotel would recommend it to everyone."
Tamara our host was very welcoming and kind, she made sure our stay at the cottage was well accomadated for. The neigborhood was absolutely beautiful, quiet, peaceful and just as my family and I expected. Great stores close to cottage for added convenience. The ad
Was exact to its description. Will defenently return.
Wow! This place is incredible. The listing alone was awe inspiring but it was even better than we imagined when we got there!
Tamara is so warm and friendly and greeted us with home made caramels, made sure we had everything we could possibly need, showed us everything we needed to know, and even let us store our flowers in her garage as we were getting married at the YMCA in Boulder Creek and brought our flowers up from LA. There are also notes every where so you don't have to guess what switch does what, and she left tourist info and a state park parking pass too!
I can't imagine a better place to stay while getting married as we were able to have a few people over and everyone fell in love with the house and backyard. And the garden and goose, ducks, and roosters were such a delightful treat. We woke up to a rooster and felt like we were in the movie "Babe"! There is even a large parrot that says hello to guests if you're lucky and you can't beat that.
I can't wait to come back here with my now husband and I even had a little photo shoot in the backyard it is so pretty! Boulder Creek is a great little town as well and everyone is so friendly and goes out of their way to help you. Tamara writes back to everything right away and went out of her way to help us find anything we needed in town and told us all about Helen the goose's adventures! It was like being a fairy tale. So perfect! And I'm still craving those caramels!
Rent this place and you will not be disappointed and get a chance to feel like you are in a Disney movie! We will definitely be going back as soon as we can. Check out Justin's pizza place down the street too. It's amazing and I've been craving his pizza ever since too!
I'm so happy that you enjoyed your stay here. A big "Boulder Creek Hug" to both of you and congratulations on your new life together! I'm warmed that I got to be part of your special day. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with you and your friends. You are welcome anytime!
We stayed four nights. The setting is quite charming. It is part of a compound with three houses and a pretty meandering path through the property leading to the different houses. There is the main house where the host lives, a historic Boulder Creek Home. There is also a longer term renter in Magnolia house which you walk by to reach the Guest Cottage. We arrived at night in the dark and it was a bit tricky finding the cottage up stairs at the back of the property through a small meadow. The meadow was torn up with big ditches for what looked like the installation of an irrigation system and plantings, but that project looked like it would be completed soon. At the moment it might be a bit dangerous for young children. The feeling of the property is a bit exotic with an enormous very colorful parrot in a big cage on the path to the cottage. There are also chickens and a rooster. I was surprised that the crowing of the rooster was not louder. We did hear him in the morning, but it was not so loud that it woke us up. Tamara is very friendly and very professional, and there were instructive signs throughout the home that are clear and a resource table with suggestions of things to do in the area. The description of the house says that it sleeps six which it theoretically could, but it is one room with a double bed and two futons that fold out and one bathroom. It was myself and my daughter traveling. The futons are hard so whoever sleeps on those needs to like a hard sleeping surface. We were in town for a wedding so we did not get to spend much time relaxing around the property, which we would have liked to have done. In general, we were very happy with everything about the experience. It is the first time I have use Airbnb in the US and it was an good first experience. Thank you Tamara.
Thank you for your feedback Elizabeth! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay on our little farm. We do apologize about the "re-design" in the meadow. Due to the severe drought, the water district has required us to do some pretty drastic renovations to save water and we were given a tight deadline. Your brother did come and preview the property and said it was "perfect!" so we made an assumption that the redesign wouldn't be a problem. Even though we played a fair amount of phone tag and never spoke in person. I should made it a priority to do a follow up with you. We have been carefully doing the work in phases when guests were not here as to not disturb any of the pathways. And you were absolutely right about the what looked like an irrigation replacement. We are going to save a TON of water! But that area was never meant to be walked through. We had hoped that guests would stick to the main paved driveway and pathways and not traverse the dirty, ditchy area where the planting flags and cones were. Thankfully, when this is done, we will never have to do the "big dig" again...at least not in MY lifetime! And the best part...guests will have a beautiful meadow area all to themselves, with new fruit trees and a picnic bench to relax on in the near future!
On our permanent tenant in the cottage near the main house...she is also part of the "greeting party!" If I am not on site, Terri is usually available to assist guests if they need anything. She is a highly skilled Yoga teacher and is also available for private sessions by appointment. As much as we like to provide privacy for our guests, we also like to have somebody on site if you have any needs!
We look forward to seeing you again in the future when you can enjoy the new landscaping, picnic area and do some taste testing on our new fruit trees!
PS We do have banty chickens and have a trick to keep our rooster quiet until everybody wakes up. I like to say..."The sun doesn't come up until I SAY so!" And he is super sweet : )
Tamara did a great job providing details about the guest cottage, neighborhood and things to do in the area ahead of our stay. The description and images accurately reflect the Carriage house guest cottage and I highly recommend it! It was very quiet and perfect for the two us spending a romantic weekend in Boulder Creek. All the restaurants and shops of Boulder creek are very close and easy to walk to. We really enjoyed Tamara's recommendations and had a fabulous time. Big Basin State Park is only about 9 miles away so this is a great central location to go out on a daily adventure. We enjoyed the pretty grounds and the sounds of the chickens, goose and macaw. We would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to stay! Thank you Tamara!
Charming Cottage! Loved our holiday weekend stay here. The cottage has everything you'll need for an enjoyable stay with the bonus of the lovely gardens and cute animals. This was our first Airbnb experience and so glad that it was a great one. Tamara kept in contact through the process and patiently guided this neophyte. Our favorite experiences: saying hi to the animals on the property, hiking Big Basin, walking around the cute downtown area (just a block away), eating at the Brewery & Scopazzi's, and just relaxing. Note that if you're streaming videos, the wifi can be spotty but for regular internet use, it works fine. The weather was very warm but the fans/open windows were enough. Also there is no microwave, but it's probably best since it's healthier to use the stove and oven anyway. The kitchen was otherwise very well equipped and appreciated that Tamara had spices, teas, etc. Thanks for a wonderful stay Tamara!
Thank you for staying with us Marissa and welcome to Airbnb! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our historic cottage. I love your thoughtful explanation for the lack of a microwave. The real reason is that folks at the turn of the century didn't use as much power as we do now, so the house wasn't equipped with the ability to carry the load. When we had a microwave in there before, it kept tripping the breaker if another guest was drying their hair at the same time...lol. But I like your explanation better...and it probably IS better for our health! Welcome to our community!
Unique and charming cottage, very comfortable for 3 singles or a couple, or couple with younger kids. Advance info was clear and detailed. We used this as a getaway from an adult camp weekend at nearby Camp Campbell, an easy 5 minute drive away. Didn't have much time to explore the area, but there are plenty of things to do within driving distance, and resources in the cottage to help decide.

Hi! My name is Tamara and I love to experience new places and explore places that are "off the beaten path" or are favorites of the locals. I am particularly interested in historic towns and sites as well as open space preserves and parks.
By profession I am a principal in a Landscape Architecture firm ((website hidden)). In my "previous life" I was a Veterinary Nurse and spent some time restoring historic homes. I currently reside in a historic town in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where I have a spacious property with Victorian Guest Cottages that I share with travelers. I grow most of my own organic heirloom vegetables on the property and love to share gardening tips!
What is it like to have me as a host? I've been told that coming to my property is like stepping back in time and is the perfect place to rejuvenate the spirit. Guests have also appreciated having their own cottage and the privacy that comes with it. Because I am very involved in my community, I can also give lots of tips on where to go and what to do depending on the desires of the guest.
