A safe quiet flat absolutely in the heart of London. Situated in the famous "square mile" the Iconic Barbican development has been the rare thing of a town planning success story, with integral Arts/music/Cinema venue, along with imaginative gardens.
West facing studio flat, with views across London - St Pauls, London eye, London sunsets. This is on the 6th floor, one floor down from the top floor. Very light flat, but comes with interlined curtains that will make it reasonably dark for a good nights sleep.
I've just added a new Heals Pocket spring with memory foam layer mattress to ensure a very comfortable nights sleep.
Unusual in the Barbican the block is only one flat deep, so the walkway side catches the morning sun, which comes through to the bathroom.
Set back from the road this flat is surprisingly quiet and spacious considering its extremely central location. See the Sat image photo. If you (website hidden) the postcode you sometimes get the view from the underground road (beech Street) Don't worry you will be staying above podium level, looking out over the fountain and gardens, and the main entrance to the block is on this level.
(Currently the Gardens in front of the block are removed as the whole area is re-waterproofed (whole of 2014) The main barbican gardens are unaffected.
The flat is a Studio, has a permanent double bed, separate living area, with danish designed sofa from the 60's, Coffee table, TV
and an table area with 4 chairs for dining. Or use as desk space.
It has a strong square table in the corner , space underneath for your suitcase.
It has a nice pair of ATC speakers and amp - so you can plug in any ipod/iphone, and it has full access to internet radio.
Wifi - broadband - is free,
It has a lush new carpet fitted Nov 2012, so I would prefer it if you could take your outdoor shoes off when in the flat.
The Barbican center is the City of London's cultural center with Music/Theater/Art and cinema surrounded by a carefully designed residential community. Whilst staying you will benefit from the resident privileges of the private gardens and lakeside walkways.
The Barbican is a safe place, well connected by tubes, Barbican tube being 2 minutes walk, St Paul's and Moorgate just 7 Minutes away.
Walk to St Paul's and you can then see the Millennium footbridge which takes you over to the Tate Modern Art Gallery and connects with the Southbank.
The Barbican is on the edge of trendy Clerkenwell area, for excellent cafes, bars and nightlife.- or you can head 1/2 Mile east and you'll be in Hoxton /Shoreditch with its great selection of places.
The Barbican has private garden & pond areas, that you will have access to as a guest with the flat key.
The Studio has a separate kitchen area, as well as full bathroom with (original) shower fixture. The bath is great, the shower is simple , not a power shower, but works well.
There is full width private balcony space also west facing.
The flat is non smoking, suitable for 1 or 2 guests.
There is a laundrette on the Barbican estate, (open 7am-9:30pm daily) that does service washes in the mornings. Tesco open 7am-11pm over the road, (couple of doors down from Barbican Tube) and larger supermarkets nearby.
Key collection is available through 24Hr Security, so you can arrive almost any time
Do let me know in your enquiry your expected check-in and out times.
Have a lovely stay !
Guests have the entire apartment to themselves, with the balcony area immediately in-front of the flat (Please do not wander into other flat's balcony areas, this is forbidden except in emergency).
The Barbican has some residents only gardens and private access to the subterranean pond seating which you have full access to with the flat key.
Secure car parking can be arranged if agreed in advance £9.80 / 24 hrs
The Barbican Cultural centre is a great asset and well worth checking out, have some of the best Music and Theatre in London, along with Art Gallery, restaurants, bars & cinemas.
The keys will be left with 24 Hr Security, so I don't usually meet guests personally, but my office is just 5 mins from the flat so I can resolve any maintenance issues very rapidly if I'm in london, not that much tends to go wrong beyond the odd lightbulb.
I really love the varied neighbourhoods available depending wich direction you walk. First you have the Barbican itself which is peacefull, offerrring the gardens and ponds.
Then you have the Clerkenwell / Farringdon area to the east and slightly north, with a wealth of coffee shops bars, and some nightlife. The Smithfield market operates mostly at night so the area is never asleep.
Check out Dose, Workshop and Modern Pantry cafe's.
Then if you head east you have the amazing Whitecross Street, in the day its lined with a fantastic array of street market food stalls offering high quality lunch meals for takeaway.
Permanently it has good restaurants and a cafe with great music / vibe (Fix) and good coffee.
Its also where Waitrose is as the best local supermarket.
Go a little further east you are going to old street
and Shoreditch, the cafe on old st roundabout - The Grind is marvelous coffee, not much space, good for a quick shot.
Shoreditch has lots of restaurants, pubs, bars and nightlife.
Ah yes then there is Londons West End and Soho - easiest to visit via 55 Bus from Clerkenwell rd.
You are in the centre of London, a little walking in the right direction and the tubes will connect you to everything, that is if you have to take the tube at all.
Busses go on through the night.
Make sure you have an Oyster card for travelling round london, its half the price of buying tickets, and much more convenient.
And we musn't forget the Bike Hire scheme - known as "Boris Bikes"
I use an iPhone app "City Mapper" this will tell you how to get anywhere by Bus/tube/train or Boris bike, and how long each alternative will take.
Travelling from Heathrow :
Take the Heathrow express (15 mins every 15 mins) to London Paddington. As you exit the train go the opposite way to most people, and up the stairs to bridge and follows signs for Underground "Hammersmith and City Line". take line heading East - 7 Stops and you are at Barbican tube. 3 Minute walk to the flat.
From Kings Cross / St Pancreas
Take Underground "Circle Line/ Hammersmith & City / Metropolitan line - head east 2 Stops, and you are at barbican Tube, 3 minutes to the flat.
From Euston : Exit Euston, cross the extremely busy main road (A40 Marleybone Rd) (wait for the traffic lights) and follow signs to Euston Sq. Tube - Head East 3 stops and you are there.
Gatwick - Don't take the Gatwick express into London Victoria, instead look for the trains to Luton, "Thameslink" they stop at Farringdon, change to Underground and 1 stop you are at the barbican.
Luton airport - you can look for trains to Brighton, as these will stop at Farringdon. Else take the normal airport express trains into St Pancreas, and then change to underground. Not Although St Pancreas and King Cross share an underground station there is a good 10 minute walk from leaving the train at St Pancreas to reaching the tube.
Stanstead Airport - take the Stanstead Express into London Liverpool St, take Underground "Circle Line/ Hammersmith & City / Metropolitan line" head west - 2 Stops and you are at Barbican.

We love our stay at Chris'! Chris is very accommodating and remembers all our requests. Communicating with Chris is simple and he's always reachable.
The neighbourhood is simply amazing with the Launderette just a minute's walk away. Located just a short walk away from the Barbican and the Farringdon station, the travel from Gatwick Airport to the Barbican was much shorter than we expected!
The London Museum is just a stone's throw away. We manage to catch some exhibitions inside the Barbican Centre and visited the Barbican Library as well!
The apartment is clean and neat with full kitchen facilities. We were able to toast bread and microwave simple meals for ourselves. The bathroom was clean and simple to use.
We highly recommend Chris' apartment to anyone who is visiting London!
Chris's flat was absolutely ideal....5 mins easy walk from Barbican tube station, yet very quiet. It was clean and tidy, and perfect for our stay.....we had fun exploring the maze of streets around Smithfield Market, and north up to Exmouth Street, but most of the time we jumped on the tube and headed in to central London, which was all very easy. Picking up the keys was easy, and the concierge/security attendant was very helpful. All in all, thoroughly recommended.
Wonderful location :) we enjoyed our 3 days staying in Chris's cosy apartment. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone )
We had a very good stay. Flat was exactly as expected and Chris was very helpful.
We had a very pleasant stay at the barbican. Location is very central and a few minutes walk to the closest tube station. Chris had arranged everything perfectly and after checking out we could stall our bags in the storage at the 24 hour security.
The apartment is a small studio but is very clean and has everything you need! We would highly recomenned this place to everybody!
I was late with my reservation, but Chris was very prompt in responding to my request. The same evening of my request all was arranged. I met Chris when I arrived at the Barbican when he exited the building where he instructed the security guard for my arrival, and we had a nice chat. The Barbican complex where the apartment is intermeshed with through walkways above street level is located in a real landmark at the entrance the City of London and a prime example of modernist architecture. The best way to enter is currently (February 2014) through the garage at street level, due to renovations. The apartment is on the 6th floor and has a view over a large court, as well as part of the city. It is clean, well maintained and is equipped with everything you need for an longer stay, including lifelines like Wifi (email hidden)ven its location in a busy London area it's surprisingly quiet wrt. traffic noise. I would prefer it over most hotels while visiting London. Recommended.
I loved Chris' apartment - would love to live there! It's an excellent location and has everything you could possibly need. Plus, and this is important in London winter, it was always warm and the bedding was lovely. Would stay there again and recommend. Chris replied to queries immediately and was a great host.
Very smooth booking and check-in process, Chris was very quick to reply, friendly and provided us with very detailed instructions on how to arrive etc. Excellent experience.
The apartment was great.
Two minutes from Barbican station.
Two minutes from Tesco that open from 6 am till midnight.
Ten minutes walk from Old street with all the great pubs and restaurants.
fully equipped kitchen and great bad, just like home.
Chris was wonderful and even due we got there in midnight the guard was waiting for us with the key.
I will definitely go back there next time I visit London
