About This Listing
Smoky Mountain High Chalet is tucked cozily away high atop Ski Mountain in the Chalet Village community of Gatlinburg. This large, one bedroom chalet is less than 3 miles from downtown Gatlinburg and borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
From the moment you arrive at this lovely chalet, a rustic, romantic atmosphere will surround you. Enjoy preparing meals in the fully equipped kitchen. The living area is a wonderful place to spend time as you snuggle up by the stone gas fireplace on the leather sofa or comfy recliner and enjoy a DVD on the Blue-ray player from our collection, a movie via Netflix, or your favorite TV show on the 50 inch flat screen TV. The main level also features a game room with a full size pool table and game table. Games, playing cards and puzzles are provided for your convenience. Relax and enjoy the beautiful views as you sit out on the upper deck from the rocking chairs or the porch swing. The lower level provides a romantic setting for two: Watch your favorite movies from the comfortable king size log canopy bed on the 40 inch flat screen TV above a second cozy gas fireplace. A private area with Jacuzzi tub is just off the bedroom, as well as a large master bath with an over sized shower. There is a lower deck off the bedroom area where you will enjoy spending time in a large inviting hot tub while enjoying the lights of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge by night and the aerial tram and beautiful mountain views by day.
You can plan a private cookout for two on the park-style charcoal grill located near the entry of the chalet or prepare your dinner inside on the George Foreman Grill on those cold winter nights. If you choose to go out for dinner, you will find excellent dining choices just a few miles down the mountain in downtown Gatlinburg or at Ober Gatlinburg. You may choose to drive a very short distance and park at Ober Gatlinburg and ride the Aerial Tram down the mountain to dine or shop in the many unique shops downtown. As a member of Chalet Village Owner's Club please use our membership card provided for access to three club houses on the mountain, each with pools, recreational areas and exercise equipment. This card also offers discounts at numerous attractions and restaurants in the Gatlinburg Area. Please comply with our no pet policy and remember that this is a smoke free chalet.
Smoky Mountain High Chalet will prove to be a perfect location for your Smoky Mountain vacation!
Our guests have private access to all of the chalet amenities listed as well as privileges offered at three Chalet Village Owner's Club locations including pools, tennis courts, exercise equipment and game rooms. Travelers also have access to all areas of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park including more than 80 hiking trails, numerous picnic areas and various seasonal programs and presentations offered free to visitors to the park by park rangers.
Interaction with Guests
Since this is a private chalet and we will not be meeting our guests in person, we enjoy the personal touch we can offer guests via email, texts and phone conversations. It is important to us to be available to answer any questions travelers might have about the area before and during their stay. Because we are so familiar with Gatlinburg, the national park, the hiking trails and the many attractions in the area, we enjoy helping travelers with their plans when needed and making new acquaintances.
We quickly decided that the Chalet Village community on Ski Mountain was the place for us with its unique Bavarian flair and quaint chalets scattered across the mountainside! Of even greater importance was the close proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our front door is located less than twenty steps from the park boundary and is within walking distance to one of the many beautiful trails open to visitors of the park. We immediately fell in love with the beautiful views from both the upper and lower covered porches of the chalet especially when the Ober Gatlinburg tram passed by with screams of excitement as passengers topped the highest tower! In the other direction through the park forest we can view the three distinct towering peaks of Mt. LeConte! We truly have a panoramic view! We enjoy the abundance of wildlife that is literally in our backyard and often delight in seeing mother bear and cubs passing through on their daily rounds to and from the park. There was never a doubt in our minds that this was the perfect getaway location! This truly is our 'Smoky Mountain High'!
Gatlinburg is one of the busiest tourist towns in the nation especially during the peak touring seasons of summer and winter. Luckily Gatlinburg offers several helpful solutions: Many visitors turn to Gatlinburg's famous trolley system to get around to their favorite destinations. There are several lines that shuttle visitors to and from over 100 sites in the city. These trolleys also serve Pigeon Forge and Sevierville. They are inexpensive and an all day trolley pass can be the best choice to get the most out of your excursions. A map of the various trolley lines has been placed in a visitor's information guide in the chalet for your convenience. There are also several rental car companies in the area if having your own personal transportation is a must. Because the chalet is located very near Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park, you may choose to drive the short distance and hop on the Aerial Tramway that will take you on an extraordinarily scenic ride to and from Gatlinburg! Your ticket is valid for two days of unlimited rides.
Other Things to Note
We strive to include everything that our guests could desire at Smoky Mountain High Chalet. Sitting high atop the ridge, it offers views of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Tram to the north and the majestic towering Mt LeConte through the bordering National Park to the east and south. We provide a detailed notebook for your convenience and brochures describing the many activities in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park available during your stay.
The chalet is a smoke free environment. Pets are not allowed. Our detailed Visitor's Information Guide will be useful in familiarizing yourself with the polices, rules and directions you will need to know to make your stay more enjoyable. There is signage posted throughout the chalet with directions for operating house features and equipment.
Staying at Paula's chalet made for a truly memorable birthday weekend celebration with my best friend! Paula was prompt and thorough in all of her communications leading up to and during our stay. Even though we did not get to meet her in person, she was beyond lovely to communicate with via email and text. There are helpful detailed instructions all around the house. The chalet's location was perfect - high up in the mountains with stunning views which we enjoyed from the rocking chairs and hot tub. We loved all of the personal touches - especially the home made cookies, card, and wine she had left for my birthday. The bed was so comfortable! We really hope to find our way back to the chalet soon! Thank you Paula!
Paula was so amazing! From giving us plenty of information on how to get there, what to do in Gatlinberg, where to eat, what sights to see, we felt welcome right out of the gate. Walking into the Chalet, everything was perfect. Chris (my boyfriend) and I never get to see each other so having such a comfortable, detailed stay was perfect. She had instructions on how to access Netflix, how to turn on the hot tub, where to find things we needed. There was absolutely nothing else we could've needed. I would be shocked if Paula were to ever receive anything less than five stars.
If you need help deciding where to stay, look no further. Paula not only is the best host, but the Chalet is even better. Its at the top of the mountain with amazing views, such a comfortable place with an insanely comfortable (and big) bed. She even left us a bottle of wine and chocolates on our pillows. We were in heaven! If and when we go back, this Chalet it will be!
Our stay with Paula was lovely. We wished we could have had more time in her lovely Chalet overlooking the smokies. We arrived a bit later than expected because of construction and a much longer drive than we had planned. Paula offered for us to check in early, but we couldn't make it in time for the early check in.
When we did arrive there were lovely personal touches- wine, candies, and notes. There were even beautiful place settings ready to go on the table. The view is beautiful! Paula is a lovely host- she gave great recommendations for hiking, food, etc.. and made herself available when we needed anything.
Paula and her chalet were amazing!! The home was as advertised and more. When we arrived there were chocolates and wine and snacks available which was so nice as we did not have time to grocery shop before we arrived. The hot tub was ready when we arrived as well, which was a wonderful treat as it was snowing! Paula has specific notes everywhere about everything - she was made to be a hostess! The view was beautiful. It takes about 10 minutes or so to get up the mountain and it is very intimidating to drive up the first time. If you want quick access to town, this probably isn't for you - if you want beautiful views and a total escape, it is the perfect place. The bed was also incredibly comfortable. Can't say enough good things - we had the best weekend and will be back!
This is a fantastic place to get away and enjoy each other for a couple. Everything was as described, there was even a bottle of wine in the fridge and some homemade trail mix which was great! My wife loved all the notes scattered around the place with useful instructions and tips on them. We really enjoyed the balcony, hot tub, fireplace, bed, pool table, all were comfy and clean. We also enjoyed cooking in the kitchen as it is just big enough to do. It's located on the edge on the national park as said, but we could not find a trail just out back, maybe we were looking in the wrong place. It's close enough to downtown Gatling and pigeon forge (15/30 mins respectively) and yet far enough away to avoid if desired.
It is on top on a very hilly road with some turns seeming as if they are only one and a half car wide, however we only came across one other person going the other way the entire week we were there.
The neighborhood is nice, secluded and quiet with people nearby and seemed very safe. 4WD/AWD is definitely needed in the winter, we had no problem in our Subaru in the rain and fog and it didn't seem like AWD was necessary without snow. Can not say enough great things about it!
Although if you are foodies as my wife an I are, there are a few things you might want to bring, everything on the listing is there and most people on vacation probably don't want to cook so it won't matter, but for those who do, spices and anything you cook with all the time and is not on the list I'd bring.
About the Host, Paula
After growing up in the Spartanburg/Greenville area of SC, I married my high school sweetheart and moved to Knoxville, TN. My husband began his career as an electrical engineer with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and I as an elementary school teacher in the Knox County School System. We raised our three children (who are all University of Tennessee graduates) in Knoxville and are now enjoying our new role as grandparents! We love hiking in the Smoky Mountains and enjoying the beautiful views. Our family also loves spending time together on the lake. We enjoy meeting new people and consider it an honor to share the beauty of the Smokies with our guests!
