Enjoy my entire home, the dock, creek in quiet solitude. I have 2 outside dogs, 2 chickens & 1 inside cat that will keep you company during your visit in our home. In exchange for that, they will appreciate your feeding them!
My home is a cozy 2 story cottage on the Leadenwah Creek, 19 miles southwest of downtown Charleston, SC. There is 1 bedroom & bath downstairs. Three bedrooms upstairs share a large bath area. All beds are full-sized. Additional sleeping areas are on the porches -- a bed swing on one and a double chaise on another. There is also a window seat where one can sleep. The television is in the living room with 8 channels, including the major networks & Apple TV featuring Netflix. Wireless internet is included. Please visit my other 2 sites "Ruby Ranch - Marsh Bedroom" and "Ruby Ranch - Creek Bedroom" if you are interested in renting 1 or 2 bedrooms instead of the entire house.
My kitchen and living area is to be lived in as if it's your own. Meals taken on the porch overlooking the Leadenwah Creek are peaceful and relaxing. My washer and dryer are available for you, also.
Enjoy the quiet peace that Wadmalaw and my 10 wooded acres afford you. Take a free tour through the woods & neighboring cemetery accompanied by my 4-legged guides, Moose & Stella. (A belly-rub tip is greatly appreciated.) Swim, kayak, fish, enjoy the sunset from my private dock. If it's cool, have a bonfire. Fresh eggs, compliments of Sammy & Maggie, are available & encouraged. Country amenities abound at my home.
My birder visitors have exclaimed about the rookery, laden with no less than a dozen white egrets, existing in a tall, droopy tree jutting out from a hunk of mud in our marsh. This lush marsh, tidal creek and mud out my front door draw a variety of fowl, including Snowy & Great Egrets, Clapper Rails, Tri-Color Herons, and Red-Tailed Hawks, to name a few.
Your drive to nearby historic plantations is a tree-lined, country delight without city traffic. The same is true for day trips to the resort islands of Kiawah and Seabrook. John's Island is right next door with many relaxing activities, including horseback riding & farmers' markets. Our own Wadmalaw has America's only tea plantation and a local winery boasting the popular Sweet Tea vodka.
Folly Beach is a 23 mile drive. Kiawah's Beachwalker Park is 22 miles. This is owned & operated by Charleston County Parks and is a lovely drive on an oak-canopied country road.
Please visit one of my other listings "Rest Awhile Wadmalaw Style" or "Rest Awhile Wadmalaw Style II" for many more photos of my home.
Our guests have the entire home, grounds, dock, hens and canines!
Other Things to Note
We have friendly dogs & 4 hens. All live outside. If you rent my entire home, I would ask you to feed my dogs twice/day.

No smoking in house or on porches, please.
My friends and I are so grateful to have stumbled upon this hidden gem! We had originally planned to go camping and ended up changing our plans at the last minute due to inclement weather. The house is beautiful, the property is gorgeous, and Fran's two dogs are incredibly sweet and well-behaved. The entire Ruby Ranch experience exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to plan another trip. Thanks, Fran!
Maura, you guys were great! Thank you for leaving everything so tidy. My only regret is that I wasn't around to join in the fun! The house has told me that a good time was had, such as the compost filled with squeezed-out limes, your almost-empty bottle of triple sec, my totally exhausted dogs, and the dishwasher sporting a show of happily-used dishes and glassware. You are welcome back anytime.
Although we didn't meet Fran face to face, she was a wonderful hostess. Very responsive during my booking and clear communication upon our arrival.
My three daughters and I travelled to Wadmalaw for a relaxing girls weekend. Fran's home is welcoming and lovely. To be honest, we spent most of our time on the porch swing soaking up as much fresh air and sunshine as we could. We walked out on the dock during the day to take in the wonderful views and at night to see all the stars. We slept soundly in the quite comfortable beds and enjoyed breakfast at her large outdoor dining table.
Just down the road from her house is a vineyard and distillery which provided for a fun afternoon.
Finally, Fran has two absolutely precious dogs, Stella and Moose. They were definitely a fun part of our weekend playing in the yard and on the dock with us. The tire swing also provided us with some laughter and smiles.
Our experience in South Carolina was by far the most memorable of our entire trip down the East Coast (and we were only there for one night!), Fran was extremely accessible before, during, and after our stay, and did everything she could to make us comfortable. The home is in one of the most beautiful areas, my 6 friends and I had an absolute blast playing with Fran's two dogs and new kitten. Literally everything about our stay was perfect, and we can't wait to come back.
Sara & her 6 college friends rented my entire house for 1 night. After having communicated with Sara, I knew I could trust them to be respectful of our home. Although, I did not meet them, they clearly are a nice group of young adults. Our home was left immaculate, along with several very sweet notes and a flowering plant! Sara and her friends are welcome to "Rest Awhile Wadmalaw Style" any time they can make the trip back south!

I was born and raised in Estill, SC and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Nursing. I work at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC in Cardiac Surgery. Getting home to my comfy cottage in the woods, on the creek is the best! I am a single, empty-nester with bedrooms to spare.
