You Made It!!!
The Whitman House is an modern style bed and breakfast in Central Square just between Harvard and MIT in Cambridge and about a 15 minute walk to either. We are 3 minute walk to the Red Line T stop and three stops from downtown Boston.
There are three of us that run the bed and breakfast and there are three private rooms in the house for rent, plus a large common kitchen, living room, dining room, and back and front porch.
During the day we operate a public health nonprofit called Search For A Cure in the downstairs office but are around to help you find your way and enjoy Boston/Cambridge.
We have three private rooms available with a range of prices depending on the season but in general falling between $99 in the winter for a queen sized bed with shared bathroom and $195 in the spring/summer for a king sized memory foam bed with ensuited bathroom beyond the walkthrough closet. It is possible to add an air mattress to the floor for a third person for a small additional fee.
Since we actually have 3 rooms message us to find out what rooms might be available and what the price is for the date you are interested in. If we can accommodate you and the price is OK we will make an offer through Airnbnb and book it for you.
Unlike most places in Cambridge, we have no taxes, and no extra fees for our free off street parking, wireless internet, coupons for breakfast at the local cafe, cable TV/DVD in each room, washer/dryer/iron etc... All complimentary.
We are looking forward to meeting you and helping you enjoy Boston and Cambridge!
My stay at the Whitman House was nothing short of sublime. The house is immaculetely kept, the rooms are fantastic and a complimentary breakfast each morning was a wonderful thing to wake up to! Close to the red line makes getting to and from downtown Boston a breeze...and if you want to have a look at Harvard University or MIT, then they're both only one stop away on the subway in each direction. I'd happily recommend the Whitman House to anyone looking for a nice comfortable stay with a great host. They offered a great deal for my stay which helped out amazingly with my stay and the questions I hadI merely wish I had been around a bit more to socialise; but a tight schedule meant that I didn't have the chance to hang around a bit more. If you're looking for a wonderful place to stay in Cambridge, then look no further!
I stayed at Whitman House for 3 nights in July. Overall, an excellent experience there. Check in and check out were very convenient. David helped carry my big luggage up the stairs to the red room. The house has a modern decor, nicely maintained, clean and felt like home. Robert provides use of the laundry, kitchen and living room facilities. I appreciated this though I ended up utilising only the kitchen for breakfast.
The house is a 5-minute stroll away from Central Square "T" station in Cambridge, an easy and safe walk through a residential area. Grocery stores, Starbucks, drugstores, banks, ImprovBoston were all a short walk away. Nice range of restaurants and pubs too!
The Red Room was just nice for a single person (probably quite tight for 2 persons), had a very comfortable queen bed. The free wifi and tv with cable channels were great to come back to in the evenings. This being a residential area, it was quiet and I had good, uninterrupted sleep all 3 nights.
Rooms and bathroom were cleaned every few days which might bother some guests but I was perfectly comfortable making my own bed and clearing out the waste basket when necessary.
I would have preferred ensuite. But the shared bathroom was 2 steps across the corridor, very clean, good water pressure. Shampoo and shower gel provided. The slanted roof might not work well for tall guests (I'm 5'4). The other guests were very considerate, so I didn't encounter any messiness, long waiting times to use the toilet, etc.
Whitman's provided a good DIY breakfast to start the day. A selection of bread, teas, coffee and fruits, yoghurt, etc stocked in the fridge. And you could cook your eggs and pancake anyway you liked. It truly felt like being in a home.
Great! David spent time sharing tips on places to visit, restaurants to eat at, etc which I found very useful. I had great conversations on politics, social issues, challenges in HIV/ AIDS advocacy with the team which I enjoyed very much. And they readily shared advice and knowledge about any questions I had.
Overall, a great stay at Whitman's House. I would go back anytime!
This spot was charming and an easy access point to the T. As a first timer in Boston, I would highly recommend this B&B. Much thanks to Robert+David, cheers!
What a wonderful place to stay! Located close to the subway (red line) and in a great neighborhood, this bed and breakfast is an amazing calm, peaceful and perfect place to crash! David and Robert are great hosts and enjoy opening their home and sharing their lives with guests.
Great place to stay. You can tell you really have arrived in Cambridge, Massachusetts when you've had an interesting conversation in the kitchen about economics, inequality and alternative mortgage financing solutions before breakfast. Would recommend this place to anyone.
I spent three really special days at the Whitman. David and Robert are wonderful hosts – welcoming, hospitable, funny, clever and all-round great company. The B&B is beautiful (designed by Robert, who is an architect) and immaculate. I’ve honestly never felt so at home anywhere I’ve stayed. If I hadn’t had to fly back to the UK, I’d have been tempted to stay...
Robert and David were great hosts! I was not only a guest at their house but had the pleasure of getting to know a bit about their life story. Fascinating people with fascinating stories to tell! Their house is conveniently located between MIT and Harvard and allows for easy access to Boston via the metro. In summary, it was the perfect choice for anyone in the area as a tourist or for a short course (such as myself). Hope to see you soon!
Robert and Dave were very nice. They had our rooms ready for us when we got there and were very accomodating. For breakfast in the morning, they had several cereals, bagels, coffee etc... The house was tucked back in a quiet little neighborhood, but was close to all of the things we come to Boston to see. thanks guys!
Beautiful home in a nice neighborhood, convenient to cafes and the Central T station, halfway between Harvard and MIT. David was a very friendly host, and the room was clean, the bed was comfy, the neighborhood is quiet, and everything works. I'd stay here again, definitely.
Just two small caveats — the red room upstairs has a slanted roof that makes a smallish room feel even smaller. It's fine for one person, maybe a little cramped for two. Also, at night, sound carries easily between rooms and up from the downstairs hall, so I was glad I had earplugs. I had to basically whisper on the phone to feel like I wasn't disturbing the neighbors. (And even then, I worried that I did.)
But other than the sound issue, the place is great. The kitchen and breakfast are great, and the owners are clearly trying to make the whole place top-notch. When you arrive, they give you a little guide with a map of the neighborhood, login instructions for the internet, and even a Charlie card you can load to use on the train. I'll be back.
